    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Natalie (Anna Kendrick) tries to talk to Ryan (George Clooney) about the value of marriage.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
Jason Reitman's adaptation of the novel Up in the Air tells the story of Ryan Bingham (George Clooney), who makes his living personally handing out pink slips -- he's the top hatchet man at a company that other companies hire when they are downsizing. And since business is booming, his job keeps him on the go constantly. He flies all across the country, staying in a series of nice hotels. And although this itinerant lifestyle prevents him from having any kind of stable, regular life, this doesn't bother him in the slightest -- he's thrilled to be a boy in a traveling bubble. During one particular layover, he strikes up a conversation with Alex Goran (Vera Farmiga), a fellow savvy traveler. They bond over the ins and outs of various airlines and hotels, and quickly fall into bed. By morning, they are figuring out when their schedules will allow them to meet up again, even though they both make it clear that there are no strings attached. When Ryan arrives back in the home office, he meets no-nonsense career-oriented twentysomething Natalie Keener (Anna Kendrick), a fast-rising up-and-comer who wants to change the company's practices and save millions by having the staff fire people remotely via webcams. Furious at the thought of losing a lifestyle he's grown quite comfortable with, he convinces his boss (Jason Bateman) to let him take Natalie on a few trips so that she can learn what it's really like to fire someone. Melanie Lynskey, Danny McBride, and J.K. Simmons co-star in this Best Picture Academy Award nominee.

Not enough people appreciate Anna Kendrick's crying in this scene. It is so in tune with who her character is. The reason it's so funny is because she's genuinely very sad but also still trying to maintain her professional rigid persona. Human emotion and professional repression of emotion fight it out and THAT is what we get. So well done.

I have been in 11 weddings since I was 21, all 11 are now divorced filled with drama. Never once do I wake up and think the grass is greener on the other side. RaserX305 Thanks for the words of encouragement man! It's unfortunate that I live in a conservative society where people think that life is limited to following a simple instruction set in order to be happy. I've always been a person who likes to think outside the box and with a certain disregard to the so-called rules. People simply need to understand that I have my own dreams that I can't fulfill if I weight myself down with life-long commitments such as Marriage. Hell, I'm not even planning on taking out a mortgage because I'm not hell bent on settling down anytime soon. The world is big and life is too short to be living someone else's version of life.

When I got here I remember watching the movie The Family Man with Nick Cage and thinking I had to choose between those 2 realities and I knew exactly which one was for me. Fast forward to today and now I own 2 businesses and love my life more than anything. Things might still change for you, but if you still feel this way in 2025 then you will know which reality is for you too.

The thing I love the most about this scene is how they instructed all the extras to not react at all throughout the scene. Kind of fits perfectly with the whole theme of the apathetic, emotionless society around them.
Also, is anyone else kind of weirded out by the fact that this movie was made in 2009 but it looks like it could have been made today? I don't think that's saying as much about the creators of the movie being "ahead of their time" as much as it is, sadly, a statement on how our society has stagnated over the past decade.

awwwww....I can see it in her eyes expressions:
Clooney: Make no mistake. We all die alone. Now, those cult members in San Diego with their koolaid and sneakers, they don't die alone. I'm just saying there are options
Kendrick: (how can he be so heartless.......Bryan just dumped me....I am going die alone......I DON"T WANT TO DIE ALONE!) *sobs and cries*
    Clooney: oh, f*ck
    An adorably cute scene...
    existentialistically sad also....

Lool I had a chick that was flabbergasted about me not wanting to get married. She would ask me if we were gonna get married like everyday for almost a whole year straight. And I kept saying no. It got to the point where I said yeah sure but deep down I was like “nah” I’m good lool. She still kept asking about it. Women hate the concept of a man not wanting to get married.

Anna Kendrick later claimed that she was financially insecure as a working actress when she made this movie, and that during the promotional tour her wardrobe was rented for her. Kendrick admitted that she felt bad about that, she thought it sent a misleading impression to young actresses.
In 2018 Anna Kendrick began appearing in commercials for Hilton Hotels, one of three travel-related companies with major product placement in the movie. (The other two were American Airlines and Hertz Rent-A-Car.)
