When it comes to exploding orbs or even taking down defensive shields you have to use a spell that is the same color as the orb or the shield. Yellow spells for yellow orbs or shields. Red spells for red orbs or shields. Blue spells for blue orbs or shields. Even if it's a simple spell like winguardian leviora it will work as long as it's the same color as the shield or orb color you want to destroy.
