The a6000 is an amazing camera for its price, it is the perfect entry point for anyone who would like to try photography but can't afford the more expensive aspc or full frame cameras. It's what I started on and have upgraded to the a6400. I thought about going full frame but the cameras and lenses are too expensive to justify if your just a hobbyist trying to get better photos of your kids/pets.
Hey brosky please help me real quick I beg you. . So I’m planning to take SonyA6000 mainly for a videography therefore is it worth it if I take it for real ? Does it have a really good auto focus in it ? I’m looking for a sony6400 but that’s way hell lot of money to invest so I’m thinking of buying Sa6000 but I’m pretty confused .
Haha Everyone is so worried about "is my camera going to be good enough in X years?" I'm still taking awesome photos on a 10+ year old dslr. I don't understand why people feel the need to get a new body every year or two. INVEST IN GLASS!
Yea, but it is a question that everyone should consider if anyone want to buy a camera at the end of 2019. I understand the 6000 is a good camera but I am still struggling to decide whether it’s a good time to buy it now.
I love my 6000. The size alone makes it a great camera for travel and hiking. It will take equally great photos as most other cameras -depends mostly on the lense and the person behind it.
I bought a a6000 last year, I love it it doesn't matter how new ur camera is, if matters how much you can do with it. The a6000 only lacks 4k and Ibis, that's why it's amazing
Dudeeeee how is that possible I literally just searched online for a new beginner camera and looked on these two exact models and now you post about them! Crazy

A6000 was my first real camera. I loved it. Now I’ve upgraded to an A7Riii. Don’t regret learning on that little beast of a camera. It’s just crazy that 5 years later it’s still $450
Would you say the a600 at $450 or a6100 at $750 is better? I like the new features of the a6100, but I'm not sure they are worth an extra $300, almost double the price. Looking as a first serious camera, shooting more landscapes than people. Nighttime sky photography is important as well.
Benjamin Gartside if you are getting a first serious camera and not gonna shoot tons of video I would save the $300 and invest it in some good quality glass (lenses). A6000 did great all around for me. I took it on vacations, shot landscapes and took it to theme parks. I then sold it to a friend and she is loving it.
Thanks for this video! I watched this while deciding on which of these two to buy since I AM just starting. I chose a6100 since I knew I'd be vlog! Just in time for my trip to Santa Barbara, CA for my wedding anniversary! Thanks again and merry Christmas!

Yea I just got a used one in great shape for $300 with spare battery. Great price...might upgrade the glass down the road. Really impressed with this camera so far.
I'm shooting with a Sony Nex6. I bought a Sony FE 50mm 1.8 and it is amazing. Also I got a Meike 25mm 1.8 manual focus. You really have to invest in lenses first instead of buying a new body.
Videos are coming in hot!!! Hey Jason was wondering, will you do a Sony a6600 review soon? And now likely are we gonna get a full “setup guide/best settings” video? Happy holidays!
As a A6000 owner that shoots mainly landscapes and little video it doesn’t seem that any of the new Sony crop cameras would give me significantly better results . I’m considering FF. How does the a6400 compare to the 6100 for stills?
Matthew Koz I hear you. I’m a backpacker so the lower weight of the APC was a plus not to mention I already have a few APC lenses. I was hoping the A6600 would have had upgrades to the sensor. Not sure if I’m ready yet to commit to FF. I was thinking maybe get a A7R11 and start there.
I still use the a6000 all the time as my grab and go camera. I really don't see a need to upgrade from this as it's my "fun" camera that I use when im not working and I use manual prime lenses almost exclusively with it.
Hi Jason and Vivian, Oh my, the a6000 was my first Sony camera, ha,ha and I am now mostly shooting with the a7iii (finally jumped to full frame after first bumping up to the a6500 for the in body stabilization) but I sometimes miss the portability of the smaller APS-C cameras. I sure don't miss the smaller batteries and having to carry extra ones at all times! The adorable dogs were worth watching this video through even though I am not looking to buy the a6100- so sweet!
I really hope so. I just picked one up with a Sony 20mm pancake, a 18-55mm and 55-210mm and a carrying bag for $200 used. Technically, i would call it open box as the shutter count was only 66. This thing was almost perfect condition.
Picked up sony a6000 used for $250 with 20mm pan cake lens, sold the lens for $200 net. Waiting for the sigma 30mm f1.4 ($230). It seems my choice to go to a6000 isn't that bad. Battery is a concern but two extra batteries with charger is $20 in amazon. As a hobbyist photographer A6000 is totally worth it especially you can pick used one for $300 with kit lens.
In the video though you are focusing on video, and what I’m here for is looking for a photography camera, plus the 6100 is out of my price range so I’m gonna go for the a6000

Hello Jason, I am an absolute beginner in photography. Thinking to buy my very first camera(switching from mobile phone photography). Which one should I go for(if I am planning to use it for at least a couple of years)? Will the a6000 going to be outdated after a couple of years(considering that it was launched in 2014), or, it can still give really good results for a couple of more years to come? TIA!!
I had an a6000 for a few of years (my first camera), invested in 2 of the 1.4 Sigma lenses, the 30mm macro, then finally the 90 G Macro. I recently found a basically brand new A7R II at an amazing price and grabbed it. 2 Days later I sold all my APS-C gear (I had no intention of doing so). The A7R II made the a6000 feel like a toy. My photographer friend told me to move up to FF instead of an a6400 or a6600, and now I know why. The a6000 is a great camera for a beginner and someone on a budget if you buy used, but if you can afford it, go right to FF.
You mentioned there is a $300 dollar difference between each camera - would a first time buyer be better off with the a6000 and using the difference in cost towards another lense?
Hello Jason. I have had the A6000 now for 2 yrs. I have done too much photographic but now I am wondering if I should trade up. If you recommend that I do, should I choose, the A6100, A6400 or A6500? Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks
Hey, nice video! I am thinking to buy the A6000 for video, my idea is to mainly record dancing videos. I am a total beginner, do you think it will work?
guess who just got a sony a6000 BRAND NEW from a pawn shop for 240. variable lens included? ME. This is my first cam so i know it has way more than enough wiggle room for me to grow.
Thanks for the video! Went with the a6100. Seems like when comparing the 6100 to the 6000 it’s a no brainer to go 6100 but when comparing to 6400 might be better to go 6400. I was basing my decision on 6000 or 6100. Thanks for confirming my choice!
If the a6100 had a thumbstick, I would seriously consider upgrading my a6000. Also, I wish that Sony would add highlight weighted metering to the a6000 via firmware. That would be amazing.
Happy you confirmed the A6000 isn´t good for landscape videos. I always thought my A6000 or te lenses are broken when i compared the vidoes to my RX100M4 or even my smartphnes. But if you want some bokeh in video, the A6000 is far superiour. (with my SEL35f18 for example)
Heads up for everyone, bestbuy has the a6100 with a 16-50mm kit lens on sale for 699. That’s only 50 bucks more than the a6000. I think I’m gonna buy one while it’s on sale.
I have a canon M10 and for me Sony A6000 is a big upgrade considering the slow AF on Canon M10. And yes, the sensor size is relatively bigger, the dynamic range is much better than the M10. I don't shoot videos, so I think A6000 does the job pretty well and using the Canon to Sony E mount adapter, I get fantastic results because I had previously invested good money in glasses.I have a canon 17-55 mm lens and a 70-200 f4 L. What sucks though is the battery life. But like you keep one battery handy, I prefer doing the same.

I am an absolute beginner in photography.
TIA!!
I purchased the a6000L. thanks
Another really useful video, thank you for the effort.
You mentioned there is a $300 dollar difference between each camera - would a first time buyer be better off with the a6000 and using the difference in cost towards another lense?
If it’s purely photography you’re buying for, absolutely. Spend the money on lenses!
The Screen Is Better On The a6100 I Was Saying The Same About The a6400 vs a6000 On The A6400 The Colors Pop On The Screen
Who is the best camera
Thanks for the information. Probably going with the A6100
Holy Moly is this video so crisp! What camera did you use to record this video? Thanks!
A6000 is a decent camera. I use it with sigma 56mm f1.4. I don't do videography work. So for stills it's a great camera.
Cant believe a6k is still relevant. It was one of my options back in 2015 when joining the mirrorless market. Feels like ages ago
Going to share this video to my friend who is planning to buy a camera
Thank you! :)
i'm just here saving for the sony a6400 ,for my UA-cam videos and tutorials ,cant wait😃😀
guess who just got a sony a6000 BRAND NEW from a pawn shop for 240. variable lens included? ME. This is my first cam so i know it has way more than enough wiggle room for me to grow.
A bit late but congrats man. I’m still trying to decide between a6000 vs a6100. 400 $ vs 780 $
Thanks for the video! Went with the a6100. Seems like when comparing the 6100 to the 6000 it’s a no brainer to go 6100 but when comparing to 6400 might be better to go 6400. I was basing my decision on 6000 or 6100. Thanks for confirming my choice!
I think 6000 will be good for people in budget because you get 2 lenses with the 6000 at the same price of 6100 without any lenses
I have the A3000 and looking for an upgrade, might buy this one! a3000 is definitely old
Thank you !!!! I’m so exited to buy a camera !!!!
If the a6100 had a thumbstick, I would seriously consider upgrading my a6000. Also, I wish that Sony would add highlight weighted metering to the a6000 via firmware. That would be amazing.
And the ability to pause video during recording. Other than that my a6000 still takes great pix and good editing tools always help
Those dogs looks so cute
What camera did you use to shoot this video? Looks great
Thank you so much for this accurate comparison video. It helps a lot.
What do you recommend for a picture quality a6000 or a6400? Thanks
Hi Jason.
Can you suggest standard Lens for Sony A6000?
I am newbie. Plan to buy A600.
Thanks Jason.
Aun tengo mi cámara y no me falla 200k fotos y aun sigo con ella, la amooooo! a6000 :D
On the fence about both the 6000 is $400 cheaper than the 6100. Wife is a newbie to photography. Trying to decide what to buy her for Xmas.
