That's why im here. 3 weeks in and i want my tomato to be producing fruits.😅 First time planting
Awesome, you got this!
It will. Feed them some compost tea or manure tea with Black Kow manure and a couple other ingredients
Nice my indoor grow room first tomatoes are really taking off, Bravo, perfect timing again
Right on! What varieties?
I just came in from covering my tomatoes and peppers with tulle. I figure every barrier I put up, is one mare chance to get a harvest. The squirrels have already been scoping out the area. I think they were taking notes on which beds to hit first. But, they were not expecting me to have a barricade, this year. I'm hoping by the time they figure it out, I will have my load, already on the shelves. 😆😁🤣
My fingers are crossed for you KP!! 🙂
I also use Tule. Cheap bug netting. 👍🏾
Thank you for this. I'm glad you mentioned them growing slow at first. I thought I did something wrong. I feel like I have been waiting for true leaves forever. 😆
Please do a video on eggplants.
Its not just you Rosalind! Every year I have to remember..."oh yeah, they are working on their roots, give them time," ha ha!
Interesting g using g handle to make hole
For some reason, its the perfect exact size for the job!
I started New Years Day . i have tomato plant with 7 tomatoes ( 2-1/2 feet tall ) Another 4 footer with nothing , and 6? peppers ( seperating later today with a lot of flowers . ALL grown in my kitchen Bay Garden window ( ?) wife wanted it 2 years ago.
Gonna be a great year for you it seems!
Getting stoked-hot pepper seedlings are coming up and planting sweet peppers later today. Next week- Tomatoes! :D Excited to see what you grow as well, love your channel!
Awesome Will! Sounds like you're going to have a killer year!!
Jeff, if tomatoes are that popular, more gardeners will be looking for your videos for ‘mader info. Keep em coming!
Thanks so much Jim, you bet I will! :-)
I just seed my in 03/03/2023 now is growing but very smaller and I am glad found yours video, before I am transplanting it
novice gardener here!!! trying for round 2 with my failed tomatoes! your tips are amazing
Thanks! You always have great timing. I was just looking at my little seedlings and wondering when to transplant them. I couldn't do it without you
Ha ha Google knows when its time! 🙂
Hey Jeff. Top class video again with such vital information that is so obvious for time served growers but not so for the beginners. Love your videos Jeff. Keep going my friend.
Phil from the uk.
Hi Jeff, great video on transplanting tomatoes with plenty of useful information. Thanks for sharing and take care 🙂
Thanks so much Christine! The big transplanting video for all crops is on Sunday! 🙂
Thanks so much for getting back to me quick
Cheers Val. 🙂
Hi Jeff, questions regarding tomato seedlings: it feels like Christmas morning everyday … I just can’t wait to get to the gifts, but instead of gifts it’s seedlings. Growth is happening and very soon it’s transplanting time. Two questions: is there a method of strengthening the stems? (2 wks. old) and is there a change in soil composition? I thank you in advance for your answers, Blessings!
Love the snack size info.. great use of visual views
Cheers will, thanks so much for watching!
I'm so ready for gardening season! 🤗
Right?? Like yesterday already! LOL
I start my tomatoes, peppers and aubergines in seed trays, then prick them out when they only have the seed leaves and transfer to module trays. I sink they right down in the compost, so that only the seed leaves and 1/8 inch of stem shows. They will stand this treatment when other species don’t. There is less root disturbance and they make stronger stockier plants assuming good light is provided. They then stay in the module for a month before I pot on into 3” pots. Another month later they go in there final place in the allotment garden.
Yup, nighshades are ridiculously easy to transplant.... Nearly fool proof. All of them.
I can't remember where on UA-cam, but he was using red party cups, one stacked inside the other. The inside cup had holes plus soil, and the outside was basically blank and sometimes filled with water; it sorta tricked the plant into continuing root growth without it being to root bound. I tried it and it worked very well. It's my go to method now since the frost can creep in even in April at times.
Red SOLO Cups, 16oz. Check for the number 5 on the bottom means food and plant safe. Search UA-cam for two cup seedlings. Dozens of videos.
Yes, people love that method. Even the nursery pots or biodegradable paper cups will work as well. If you have the space for larger containers right off the bat that is....some of us don't. 🙂
@@dougadams9419 Excellent point Doug!
I save the plastic cups all year from places like McDonald's when I buy a small soda to transplant my tomatoe plants into. I start them in the 72 Jiffy peat pods then drop them into the plastic cups.
Thanks Jeff 👍
Cheers Justin! :-)
Hi Jeff, How to manage my cherry tomatoes during sudden rainy season? It hardly rains in my Zone 5b (i get snow) but these past few days it has been raining like crazy 24/7 non-stop and worries me - I wonder what will happen to my tomatoes? Thank you so much.
Great video when do you recommend to start your tomato seeds my last frost date is April 30
Thanks Val! I always start my tomatoes about 6-8 weeks before last spring frost. So you're good to go anytime! 🙂
Love these quickies!
Thanks Marilyn! Appreciate the support!
Thanks for sharing ❤
Tomato plants 🌱
Thanks for watching! Best of luck this season! 🙂
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms Minnesota ,
Just started seeds Sunday
@@Barosunflower Right on! They should be sprouting this weekend or just after!
I appreciate you!
Right back at you!!! :-)
I am curious to learn why you say tomato plants "thrive" from up-potting.
Thank you!
All nightshades (including tomatoes) send out adventitious roots from their stems. By burying the stems, you can increase the root network exponentially, causing the plants to grow remarkably faster and stronger. Its a common practice.
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms Thank you!
I'm the oppsite. It's growing decent as a seedling but barely roots at all, just has 1-2 strands
Hi Jeff. Thank you. Very useful info. Take care
Question I have tomatoes growing back in my garden and I was wondering if I should put them in pots I have a few really tall wide large pots. They are a unique plant that I got at a special master gardener sale that keep coming back every year but they look crowded. I think they’re small little six plants. I think they need to be spaced out how tall should they be remove them?
I think I messed up I had some old seed packets of tomatoes so I filled the big pot import the rest of the bag in there they can only a few with germinate but I think they all did now I have 20 some sprouts in a 2-gallon pot should I wait for them to get their true leaves or divide them up now..... any suggestions would be helpful
Thank you for the great information! 😃
A couple of my plants have bumps on the leaves. Not stems, leaves. Are they fine? Or is that a bad sign? I did have the light a little close since they’re probably ready to transplant now... idk hoping it’s something silly like that that’s fixable. Also don’t think it’s on any true leaves. But will check again.. but A couple have a bunch on the other leaves
Wow nice here subscribed God bless 😍
Hey, thanks so much for the support! :-)
I noticed your tomatoes had the same purple leaves and curled leaves as mine. I'm struggling a lot having green tomatoes seedlings. I have the same MarsHydro light as you do, do you think the lights could be the cause of it?
It's the variety
I have some to transplant
My seeds are stunted. I transplanted into 4 inch pots and some grew, some just stunted. Should I pot up again??
Hmmmm..... You think something is wrong with the soil? Did they maybe get too wet?
Thank you for sharing. ❤
Tomatoes are from the Nightshade family? Would this also apply to others in the same family? I tried something new, grew "chits" from spuds, planted them out, and they do seem to be content.
I am just about to start tomato seeds, any specific info I need? I put the pots on a slightly warmer surface, basically that's it.
Warmer summer coming after La Niña and La Niño switching places. Maybe I will get a decent harvest. 🤞🤞
100% it would apply. Peppers, eggplants, even potatoes....although potatoes are biggies, so there' no point in seedling trays for them.
The chits are already in outdoor pots. Seem to be ok. Tomatoes will be seeded this week, will keep the pots warm until germination.
Thank for replying so promptly. 🇨🇦👍
@@ninemoonplanet right on! You're all over it! What variety of potatoes?
Have you tried or planning on ever attempting growing Jalapeno? I see you have bell pepper videos.
Hey Fillmore, I have, almost every year! They are virtually identical to growing bells.....so prolific too. Grow great in containers!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms Good to know. Thanks for the reply.
My tomato seedlings/plants are about 8 inches tall with very few leaves
How do i get more leaves for a sturdier plant?
Here we are near the middle of March in South Carolina and I still can't plant anything in the garden like before when I could plant in late February.
Night time temperatures will not go above 40° F until mid April this year. So much for "global warming/climate change".
Not looking good to plant outdoors this year until May 1st. Tuesday 3/14 the low will be 32° F. and several days below 40° F.
What a weird year Doug. What date were you getting things out into the garden last year?
You describe climate change perfectly! Your climate changed; did it not? This is what people fail to realize about the fact that it is happening. The cause is debatable, however.
Since this is a gardening channel, I have no interest in a debate over why. All we can do as gardeners is adapt.
Why are your tomatoes purple looking. Mine are also purple is that a problem
Hey Mike, its not a huge problem. I actually forced mine to turn purple to make this video here: ua-cam.com/video/gVWMIf2c458/v-deo.html Easily solvable.
