Finally someone that can actually explains the confusing world of VLANs. And not because VLANs are difficult but because CISCO and the rest of the world use different terms on a technology that is a STANDARD. Sunny have created a very didactic way to explain the confusion. Very good job Sir.
Some things are like that. Plus the teacher can make a serious difference. Idk what it is about sunny, but his work is always direct and clear for me too. Best teacher I've ever had
Sunny, you're such a talented teacher! I believe that aspiring teachers (not only in IT) should watch high quality tutorials (such as yours), and only then decide if they really have it in them!
I love your videos, you make things easy to understand. I've learned the basics many things in just minutes. In school, they failed to make me understand the same things in multiple classes.
I want you to know I spent the last 45 minutes having a mini panic attack trying to learn VLANS for my network+, and your video is the one that made it all click. Thank you so much!
This video provides the easiest to understand explanation about tagging, access ports and trunking that I have ever seen. I have set up several VLANs on switches, but never fully understood some of the terms. The video also explains the difference between CISCO terms and generic terms. HIGHLY recommended for anyone starting to setup VLANs.
Love these videos! I started working at an internet company as part of the tower crew and these videos have helped me greatly in learning the ins and outs of our day to day activities!
Even though I've configured and worked on many switches and routers with VLANs etc. , I was never able to fully understand how the taggig/trunking works inside the switch or bts logically. Thank you mate for clearing the longstanding doubt!!
I've been working with Cisco devices for years, and now i started working with a lot of other vendors, it was turning me crazy people calling "tag this, tag that, tagged port, untagged port" I was like WTF?!!??!?!?! until i watch this video hahaha!!! Thanks again sunny, now i understand everything just with your video, they are just talking about TRUNKS!!!! hahaha.....thank you once again!!!
Perhaps it’s clarified in an earlier video, but not all switches are created equal; the ones in this series are assumed to be managed, layer 2+ switches.
I've worked with networks for years, and have a very good understanding of VLANs and tagging. I had a problem with some devices on my network and watched this to see if it helped me think of a solution and it did! Thanks Sunny!
I just love your videos, I spent 3 hours this morning to understand something but couldn't, as I discovered your channel I decided to google your channel and and finally got it in less then 10 mins.
This was the best explanation I found of VLAN on UA-cam, so thank you so much for that. In addition to VLAN membership and tagged/untagged for each port, I also had to set PVID. I would love a clear explanation of what PVID is for. I have a pair of TP-Link managed switches.
after watching at 10 vids claiming they know how to explain it in easy to understand, they start simple then in the middle they over complicate the teaching and already confusing and abstract coz they skip in explaining the mechanism in the tagging and trunking, coz they themselves don't really understand why and what really happens on the ports, they just define this and that happens and skip the why it happened. You're the only one who really understands what you are teaching and in the most easy to understand use of words for a student
Thank you. Your explanation really makes things easier. I still want to know how multiple VLAN switches work and how they transmit information between VLANs.
Sunny, thank you very much for taking time out to make these very informative and concise videos that help us gain understanding without distraction. I look forward to viewing the rest of your available training.
Finally, someone who lays it out in simple terms with an example. THANK YOU! You mentioned the 802.1Q adds a Tag, and you highlighted it pink. Also the FCS changed color too but what happens there?
One thing to emphasize is that IEEE802.1q operates on layer 2. It's not meant to route. So the two VLANs have to be on the same network in order for IEEE802.1q to work - different switches but same network (i.e same subnet). For me this is the most important thing to know but somehow nobody mentions it. Even Mr. Sunny. Because if you don't know this fact then you're mislead to think that IEEE802.1q trunk is some sort of routing technique.
Very well explained, I am a server enginner and time to time we had to troubleshoot network issues. This video cleared my understanding on trunk andn access ports. Keep up the good work. Happy to subscribe to your channel.
Great video. I'm keen to set up some VLANs for IOT devices at home. Your video helps me easily understand some of the terminology I keep coming across. Thank you.

OMG it took me 7 minutes to understand what I couldn't in 10 years of studies. thank you so much
Really? 10 years of studying and you still didn't get it?
@@YESsirr2690 🤣😂😂
I agree!!!

It's easier to learn with an accent. :D
Whenever I am scare or frighten about IT, I usually run into one of Sunny's videos and he explains it just fine. Thanks Sunny!
Sunny, you're such a talented teacher! I believe that aspiring teachers (not only in IT) should watch high quality tutorials (such as yours), and only then decide if they really have it in them!
This is the best explanation I've found! You make it so easy, nice work.
Thank you for your nice comments! I am glad it helps
Wow. You clarifying the Trunk = Tagged and Access = Untagged helped me tremendously. Thank you!
"VLANs are local to each switch, VLAN info is not passed between switches" Clear and simple, helps a big deal. Thanks!
Glad it helps.
Thank you! So far the ONLY video I’ve seen that actually explains what tagging is. Really nice job and thanks for your efforts.
man you explain things so simple. you were born to be a teacher
I love your videos, you make things easy to understand. I've learned the basics many things in just minutes. In school, they failed to make me understand the same things in multiple classes.

wtf this finally makes sense now. idk why my professor made it so complicated explaining what tagging was
Because teaching is a skill

I read so many books but don't really understand the VLAN terms until I watched your video, thank you so much.
Sunny is simply amazing, short to the point and explained like a champ!!!
A lot better explanation than all the famous network gurus on UA-cam.
Finally, the good visualization of the process. Thank you!
I just want to say I love your videos and thank you. They helped me understand a lot of networking concepts to help me pass Net +
I've worked with networks for years, and have a very good understanding of VLANs and tagging. I had a problem with some devices on my network and watched this to see if it helped me think of a solution and it did! Thanks Sunny!
