    History
The university was created on December 10, 1970, by Law No. 5647, from the merger of the Faculty of Law of Cuiabá (which was created in 1952) and the Institute of Sciences and Letters of Cuiabá. That year, the first 11 courses were opened, offered on the university campus, in the Coxipó region. The first centers were created and construction work on the blocks began.
In the 1980s, the Júlio Müller University Hospital was established and the process of internalizing teaching began. The Rondonópolis, Médio Araguaia and Sinop campuses are created. The offering of special undergraduate and distance learning classes also begins, in several cities and centers spread across the state, which until then did not have access to higher education.
During the 1990s, projects for special classes and installment graduation continued in all states, along with the significant expansion of the offer of undergraduate courses on campuses. The beginning of the 2000s was marked by a decrease in the institution's budget. Despite this, new courses and classes are created, and the university invests in degree programs aimed at teachers in public schools and in installments in inland municipalities. In 2006, the Sinop campus was finally consolidated, with the creation of several undergraduate courses, there and also on other interior campuses, thanks to the Federal Government's university expansion program. In total, there are 11 new courses and 500 vacancies open in the second semester, in an extraordinary entrance exam. Teachers and technicians have already been hired to provide these courses, and work on the new campus will soon begin.
