Phillip Ahn was the go to guy when an Asiatic character was called for in the Thirties and Forties. He played Cato in the original Green Hornet serial.
The narrator in the beginning stated that Jules Verne had foretold the invention of the submarines, when actually the submarines were already in use before he was born.
An Asian represented with dignity, speaking English. So-called smart phones have a similar effect on humans today, just subtle by comparison, but its only a tool of media and corporations.
The radio announcer in the closing 30 seconds kinda says it all about this movie, eh? Planning on super weapons to make our way of thinking be the only way of thinking. Er, I mean safe for democracy.
+1 olongapojoe yeah, the whole atom bomb/John Campbell story gave it away. The "jets" in the newspaper made me suspicious, as did the flying disk concept.
+Nangleator22 I was surprised who poorly made this film is for 1953 given that they had been making far more sophisticated movies long before this one.
This was originally done in 1938 aa a serial, then re-edited for tv in 1953. In the late '30's Jackie Moran was a semi-popular teen "B" actor, mostly for Monogram. ( see: Meet Dr.Christian/ Barefoot Boy/ The Gangs All Here......).
Wiki, which isn't always right, ; ) says... Buck Rogers (1939) re-edited from serial to feature format and re-released for theatrical distribution in 1953; This film is archive footage which is edited together from the serial episodes. Buster Crabbe made the films of Flash Gordon in 1936 to 1939 and couldn't look this young in 1953.
The Robot Battalion! Sure brings back memories. Buster Crabbe is the best!!😊
Erin Grey's "Wilma" costumes in the first season of the 70s TV show fit a lot better than those coveralls this production put on Constance Moore.
GREAT Film! Love the special effects!
yes and for the time well acted and good effects.
I love these old movies great way to spend my break time at work
I wish I had time to watch movies at work!
Great time to break ...

Keye Luke played Kato in the Green Hornet serials, and it was Philson Ahn, Phillip's brother, who played Prince Tallen in this serial.
@@a.g.marshall2191 I could have sworn...!
Wow. This was 2 years before the attack on Pearl Harbor.
@@a.g.marshall2191Absolutely 💯
so nice to see a hero that doesn't kiss everyone lol TFS
So the "advanced" men of the 25th century, had never thought of a decoy before; but they can make interplanetary ships!?!?
The narrator in the beginning stated that Jules Verne had foretold the invention of the submarines, when actually the submarines were already in use before he was born.
"The year 2000, it might become commonplace."
Man capes rule.
Interesting the poster for this rep'd space ships as saucer shaped.
The sounds of the spaceships is so annoying! I wonder what they used to make that sound and who would think that sounds like a spaceship! lol
The HST in the newspaper is likely Harry S Truman, President of the US.
this is so bad it hurt!
I don't think that this movie was made in 1939.

This film was made after 1948
How do you know that?
The radio announcer in the closing 30 seconds kinda says it all about this movie, eh? Planning on super weapons to make our way of thinking be the only way of thinking. Er, I mean safe for democracy.
Hate to tell you but the date of the movie was 1953.

shame it is so fuzzy and over exposed. Shame they never had colour.
Wrongly dated 1939. This is a 1953 movie.
Yes and no. This feature was released in 1953 but is an edited version of the 12-chapter serial Buck Rogers which debuted in 1939.
