When I was in the US Navy I was stationed in the Persian gulf. We were out in the RHIB boat (14”) and a whole school of them emerged from the depths of the sea. I pissed myself a little.
Brian Stamler I’m not sure. I just know about 30 of them came out of the water together and were all around the ship, this was in 1999. I always see if I can find pics online.
Dan, First of all, thank you for your service. I'm thinking you are likely confused about the species which you saw. Whale sharks, unlike whales, are fish and do not breach or jump, as they breathe underwater and don't have a reason to rise above the surface. It is also highly unlikely to see them in any type of group, but then again, it's just as unlikely to see them off the coast of Maryland, but does happen. This time of year, the gulf stream is strong and bringing some crazy warm water up the coast!
I am going to Ocean City tomorrow I go every year and I absolutely love it! I highly recommend people that live on the east coast go to Ocean City some time it's just a very fun, relaxing, and awesome experience... it's just a place you can go to forget about all of your problems and have a good time.... unfortunately for me... we just found out a couple days ago that my mom has Breast cancer... so 2020 has been the worst year for me and my family... my uncle died... my mom's best friend died... and now my mom has cancer... so me and my family definitely need this vacation more then anything rn... but anyway this is such a gental giant man... I absolutely love sharks especially whale sharks they are so massive and so beautiful I would absolutely love to go swimming with one of them one day...
We went down for the day last week to take my granddaughter to the water park at Jolly Roger... had a great time! No lines. The wave pool was the only thing there that was closed. The board walk was open with little crowds. This was on a Saturday too. Hope you guys have fun.
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!!! ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL & GENTLE CREATURES IN THE WORLD & YOU GOT TO SEE HIM UP CLOSE!!!! THAT IS FANTASTIC!!!!! I LUV UR VIDEO!!!!!!! 💖💖💖🙌👏🙌👏🙌👏
I had NO idea whale sharks were even indigenous to the Atlantic. Always thought they were the stuff of Australia, Indonesia, etc. Big envy for you....... and Ocean City? The best moments of my early life were there...... I remember it was dunes and scattered motels and cottages. It was close enough to Heaven even now. IN the 70's my gf drove me crazy...... ALWAYS wanted to be WAY WAY out off shore. I gotta admit I don't much like walking on a bottom I can't see...... and being that far off shore means a longer sprint for shore....... a huge shadow passed, circled mere feet away and I felt a huge surge of current as if a large tail had whipped up the whirlpools around us. Time to inconspicuously ease closer to shore........ but LOVE Ocean City regardless.
@@michellem5647 per Britannica.com, "They are found in the western Atlantic Ocean from the coast of New York in the United States to central Brazil, including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea." While it is rare, Whale sharks are by no means impossible to see, especially in the warm waters of the late summer Gulf Stream. I have seen much stranger things off the coast of OCMD.
He showed up outta nowhere!! lol Id like to know WTH is goin on in O.C. the month bfor this siting--theres video of a Great White feeding in O.C too! So 2 of the bigger sharks...both in oc.!😳 Sumthins up!

The Whale Shark wanted to interact with a swimmer. Sometimes they pull close as well if they are injured . But that was awesome . Im still awaiting my turn to swim with one . Good deal
I would like to know why that young boy is not wearing a life jacket. Thought it is the law on certain size boats, yet should be the law for all boats. Anything could happen and the boy, or boys, could go overboard.
I am surprised to see a shark in ocean city. I know they are out there but that’s very rare for OC. Luckily there are dolphins to keep the sharks away.
🤣🤣🤣 bro, there's so much shark in OC it's not even funny. Whoever told you that LIED! People go out for shark on the daily, there's literally categories for shark in the Open. A boy got bit surfing in June up at Henlopen by a juvenile.. UA-cam shark feeding on dead dolphin Jersey shore from last Thursday. Hopefully I didn't scare you off from our beautiful ocean🤟
Kate, all shark attacks are extremely rare, that goliath in the video couldn't eat you if it tried. They're gentle giants, but there is def a ton of shark in our waters. Bulls n tigers are typically the most aggressive and there are Bulls mainland as well for example in the Pax and Potomac rivers. A monster bull was caught a few years ago I believe in the Potomac at a few hundred pounds. Once upon a time there was an actual dump right on the east side of the bay bridge that brought a bunch of shark up the Chesapeake bay into the area. I believe a big tiger was caught there as well a long time ago. Its amazing how much shark travel through the water in the course of their lives. Google the white shark that has been tagged that keeps popping up in chincoteague and surrounding waters..pretty neat
Amazing, and what a blessing to get to see a Whale Shark, a gentle giant.
Isn't it beautiful, what an amazing creature. Your so fortunate to get to see one.
Jaws' docile cousin,"Gums"😄👍

Ya know whale sharks have teeth right?? Also I get it.
I'm from DC, haven't been fishing since my grampa died, bout 15 years! This was exciting! Thanx.✌️
What a DEAL!! Never know what you will see on the ocean! Love the curiosity of the whale! Good job!!
Absolutely incredible. Thank you!

Are whale sharks not solitary creatures? I was not aware that they "school".

a good 500 feet, i’ve seen it. the boats have to be far from the shore, and the sharks usually hang around that area.
