    Older cars have less useless tech and fuel saving crap therefore more reliable and easier to repair

      If the tech is useless, why people pay for it?

    When I was in my younger days I was driving cars from the 1960s. These were not complicated to service, and when maintained they lasted a long time.

    Always replacing ANY rubber components after 20+ years on any car

      And also depends on the climate. In Middle East all rubber components will be ruined in 7-10 years.

    I lucked out. Last year I purchased a 2001 Lexus ES300 with 115k miles from an old couple. Yes the car did need some work and some things needed replacing but as of right now I can honestly say the car feels as if it is brand new off the showroom floor. It probably rides better than most new cars. Everything depends on the previous owners and maintenance history like you said.

    Here's the thing to future proof cars. After a car's obsolescence, 7 years after they stop making the model (example 1999 - 2001 Corolla) all electronic lockouts should be open sourced. This will prevent automakers from monopolizing repairs and maintenance. No one likes going to the stealership, no one. This alone will help people hold onto their cars longer and help balance the auto market industry since most cars are almost rolling desktops now!

      Try telling that to Nintendo lol. They won't even let people distribute software that they have no intention of selling again.

    They are realiable if you buy it brand new and use it for years with recommended maintenance intervals. Other than that it is just gambling. You might come across a well maintaned one or ignored one.

    Once they are past like 12 years, the average lifespan, every mile you get is a bonus.

    The last and worst car we ever owned was a Honda civic. Yeah it had 200,000km on the clock but so has most of what I owned. It was utter rubbish along with being terrible to drive. The Renault scenic we owned before it (and only sold due to emigration) was way more reliable which is saying a lot. And the civic owner was a good guy who always serviced the car. Ended up giving it away with a blown head gasket. A car brand is zero guarantee that a car will last.

    I bought my 03 Corolla new. Now it has 268K+ miles and drives like new. But I use OEM parts and have replaced the struts/shocks and the power steering hoses. The original starter went 180K+ but I couldn't find OEM parts to rebuild it so I just had to rebuild it again. The boots went 200K+ miles but the Toyota boot kit is cheap and pretty easy. I've had to replace 3 out of 4 wheel bearings and the front ones are a pain. But this car sees lots of exceptionally high speeds. Michelins only get about half the rated miles. This car is still very reliable but who knows when the original alternator, compressor, fuel pump, and water pump will go? I know others with 400K+ miles on these parts.

      @@Fat_PetrolheadI bought it some months ago to the very first owner who bought it brand new in 2007, and now he is kind of a friend to me. It’s been a little journey to do all the pending maintenance since the last 2 years the car was treated a little bit rough because he wanted to sell it and didn’t want to spend much money into the car. Luckily the bills show it was quite well maintained previous years. The biggest point was the cosmetic restoration… And I think I’m half way done. But speaking in terms of issues, it only had some pending work at the suspension (replace air struts and silent blocks), a saggy headliner, a dead rear automatic sunshade, a couple of electric gremlins due to a low battery, and a couple of very small leaks. I think that’s it. It runs great. I also have another Jaguar I bought 4 years ago with the same 4.2 supercharged engine (in such case an XKR) with 150.000km and, both of them run like a charm. I’m in love with this engine. Until now they are outperforming in terms of reliability my old M3 E36 321hp and Audi S8 D2 360hp.

      It also depends on where the car was made. Say it were made in the southern countries It probably wouldn't last as long

    This video makes no sense. ALL cars maintenance history matters even a 2-3yr old car.
    Do you buy a House without getting it professionally inspected first? Do the same with a car and they will tell you everything that's wrong with it.
    Older cars are way less complicated, easier and cheaper to work on. Simple mechanical parking brakes, simpler engines/transmissions, simpler electronics, etc. Any good mechanic can tell you if it was well maintained or not.

    • @Fat_Petrolhead
      @Fat_Petrolhead  2 місяці тому

      Thanks for the comment. Do you really believe that inspection will point you all possible problems with a car? Per my experience it doesn’t work like that. You will never figure out oil change frequency for example, and it affects your future life with this car a lot. General inspection will only show what is broken and even in this case it is not a 100% guarantee. Have you ever heard about problems with a car that nobody can diagnose properly?

    • @Argedis
      @Argedis 2 місяці тому +1

      @@Fat_Petrolhead YES absolutely. A good OBD Scan Tool will tell you EXACTLY how healthy an engine is running, this directly translates to engine wear and poor maintenance. For example the fuel trims show if the computer has to compensate for the engine to run correctly. If it has to adjust timing, or if there is knock, misfires, etc.
      My 200k mile tacoma barely has 2% adjustments... basically running like new.

    Uhhhh, that's a lie, a 20-30 yrs old, well maintained Japanese car is way more reliable than any new modern cars, built with recycled material and "state of the art" tech. This video is a joke!
