  • Trimming a Conifer (THUJA) hedge
    THUJA is also known as the WESTERN RED CEDAR, Thuja is part of the cypress family, a fast growing evergreen conifer, Thuja hedges unlike Leylandii, will tolerate hard pruning and will often regrow quite well when cut back hard into older wood

    Soothing! Cordless doesn't have the 'urgency' sound of petrol engine. I am phasing out my petrol machinery where possible. Lovely neat job as always Jason! And no wind flipping the tarps!!

    Terrific Job Jason. I noticed you never cut downwards only up from the bottom. Guess your blades must be sharp az a razor for I need to adress several crosses with the same machine to achieve an even cut. Even after blade sharpening. I need to step up my sharpening skills. cheers!

    I have watched many of your videos, learned a lot thank you. Can I ask a question ? I am only trimming my own hedges, over the years they have become quite wide probably due to me not cutting them back enough each year. I can see that if I cut them hard I will be left with brown hedges devoid of any green foliage, do privet,holly and hawthorn recover and put out green leaves etc but nearer to the main trunk in the future. Thank you

    Hi Jason, do you ever use petrol tools now? I’ve been using battery for the past three years now and my Husqvarna and stihl hedge trimmers are all packing up I don’t feel they last long enough like petrol. Don’t know weather to convert back to petrol as the repairs on battery tools cost a fortune.

    Nice job Jason, you did a awesome job. How do you like using a battery trimmer verses gas powered? Just wondering. It seems a lot of landscapers are switching to battery. Stay safe. 👍👍👍👍👍👍😉🇺🇸

      Thanks Neusa, the battery kit, is very good and so many benefits to it, over gas, great power, low noise, low vibration and no horrible fumes, my gas hedge trimmers are pretty much retired now.

    can this type of hedge be planted around 2 metres from a new patio and be maintained at a height of around 2.5m or does it's roots cause structural issues

    Really nice work mate. Have you tried or had anything to do with husqvarna battery gear? I’m considering battery for our 2nd team. What size & how long do you get from a battery? Do you charge up through the day, multiple batteries?
    Cheers 👍🏻😎🇦🇺🏝

      Iv tried the short reach husqvarna and its very good, it's very difficult for me to say how many battery's and run times, there is many many variables, try and get a demo machine from your dealer mate.

    Can you trim thuja anytime? Or does it get Sun burn or cold burn like boxwood?

    • @jasongardener3425
      @jasongardener3425  Рік тому

      Iv always found, the best yime to cut thuja is spring or autumn, so avoiding the extreme heat/cold 🙂👍

    Great job! Why only cut on upstroke instead of back and forth?

    • @mulletcraft6247
      @mulletcraft6247 2 роки тому +5

      He only does up stokes because if he did down strokes then if the sides were longer then it would weigh them down (with the already cut pieces) and when you cut the weighed down bits off they would spring back further into the hedge than the rest of were you cut the side and you would risk making a hole in the hedge. I hope this makes sense.
