Hi man, great stuff, I really like the jiggly behaviour of the benzyl alcohol and the way it combines together. Would you mind just quickly telling me what did you use to color the alcohol itself?
I used Solvent Violet 13 ( www.kremer-pigmente.com/en/shop /dyes-vegetable-color-paints/synthetic-dyes-solvent-soluble-solvent-dye s/wax-colorant/35350-macrolex-violet-b.html). However, if you are trying to make anything similar I would advise against it, I have made four prototypes with Benzyl Alcohol and they all turned completely cloudy after less than a day of runtime (will all be in the final video when it comes out). Maybe there's a way to mitigate that but I didn't find one.
@@blueluny Blue/orange is what I tried at the end of my long filtering video. Didn't work out well, but in any case I think you want to avoid complementary colors because the lava will always appear (close to) black then.
I really like the partial transparency and the interesting flow, wish these were buyable

@@Makstuff thank you! Looking forward to watching your video when it comes out. Love your channel, keep up the good work please!
@@Makstuff There's none benzyl alcohol will form micelles in the oil water solution, stick to non polar solvents for the wax.
@@Makstuff isn't just a matter of turning the lamp off for a while let all the benzyl settle and turn on again?
@@travian821 Thats what I thought too so I tried it of course, but even after a full week the cloudiness hadn't reduced by one bit.
very well balanced!
as all things should be
need a how to video on this. please thank you
Wow what a cool different vibe. A nice cool blue "wax" in a orangey water would look dope..

@@Makstuff I saw! Yes it wasn't a success but a good lesson!
@@Makstuff you can use oil pastel colors for coloring the wax.
@@0RIPPER0 Nope doesn't work, oil colors are pigment based and for lava lamps you need solvent based colors or it will sediment.
@@Makstuff that's mean melted crayons will not work🥲? I think this type of color can be used, take a look [ SOLVENT RED 5B (SR27) ]
