It's a shame that John Ashley didn't get more good roles like this where he could really show his talents. After this movie, he had little to do in the beach party movies and the Phillipine horror films. Rest in Peace, John Ashley
I love this movie, and have seen it at least a half dozen times. I always liked John Ashley who played Matt. Ashley played in some of the 1950's B monster movies as the hero. I have about the same hairstyle as John Ashley. :)
@imaTM2010 I liked Mat, too & so the ending was a disappointment. He was reckless & misguided & acted tough on the outside, but the absence of his parents overseas left him alone & left a void. Mat didn't deliberately set off to run Kelly off the road. You could see he had some remorse. I actually felt sorry for him.
Hey, who's with the white sneakers? When they ran out of teenagers for these movies, they just found some older guys for the parts. I went to JHS in 1964-5 with throwbacks to this era, leather jackets duck tails and all. I think they are still there.
1958 Cadillac sedan DeVille and the 'hot rod' is an early 50's Chevrolet, mildly customised with the emblems and door handles removed, Oldsmobile hubcaps and what might be an Oldsmobile grille.
That's what I was wondering. It's the only explanation I could come up with. There might be a clue in that speech at 17.40 about expecting to walk in and find one of her boyfriends has carried her off.
-They were too city cool for that little 'burb they were in. They shuda bn in NewYork where u had over 1,000 other gangs to rumble against. But then they would've been outnumbered, & would've needed more members, zip guns, brass knuckles, switchblades, chains, & baseball bats.
All right, so this is the standard morality play so common in 50's movies. But is there one bit of sardonic humor slyly stuck in?!?!?! Please give me your opinion on this: Around time 25:00 Matt comes home, and ultimately ends up in his bedroom in a fit of angst. But on the way, he impotently calls for the maid and butler, and twice looks up at the chandelier to see it shaking. Are we to infer that the obese maid and snarky butler are going at it somewhere in the house!!??? :D
I was thinkinjg exactly that myself! Let's look at the facts, Fact one, no butler. Fact two, no maid, fact three, chandelier shaking, Why? No reason givin in the movie. An open mystery. Why was it put in the movie? What did it do to contribute to the story line? Nothing! So, why was it put in the movie? My hypothosis, Comic relief! We are to infer the maid was getting her flaps flipped and the butler did it! Case closed!
Not much of a Cesar, accomplishing big things, but there was a Brutus giving the final stab in the back alright. Clearly intended for a teenage audience, everything is so black and white to make sure even the dumbest dumbo in the flock understands the message. So, the "Cesar" is not only vicious but a bit pathetic, his "praetorian guards" are not much either (all muscle, no brain), and nature apparantly made sure there wouldn't be baby crickets in the next years. On the other hand, all the "goodies" are friendly, healthy, have a girl friend, fancy cars, are very sports etc etc. The acting is somewhat wooden, the cars and music compensates this more or less, so although no A nor B movie like let's say Black Board Jungle, but an entertaining teen movie giving a good idea how it must have been at quite some highschools in the USA. In Western Europe, you needed to be 18 to drive a car, and have very very rich parents to own one. I don't think there will have been many teenagers in Belgium in that era who had a car. When I finished high school in 1985, there were only two "kids" who had one, one was a very small car, the other one an old Fiat two seater, no Cadillacs or Mercedes or Jags....
The 1950s were the best! I love the fashions, music and cars of that era.

He's the quintessential J.D. in my eyes, even more than James Dean, he's also very cool in Hot Rod Gang
I love the song at the beginning!

I always dug those big, cruiser L8 50s Cadillacs like what he was drivin at the start of the movie.
Boy, that Matt fella really knew how to run a High School crime syndicate.
31:37- "Alright, what are you looking at? Dance! I SAID DANCE!"
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Wowee wow wow!!! I've been looking like crazy for this movie! One of my favorite cheese fests ever!!! Fabulous!
Fuck the hundred dollar gold coin is why I'm smashing this car I won't let anyone drive in fear of it getting damaged.
They play the exact same music each time they're in the common room!
This is a more violent version of Rebel Without a Cause, except this kid is just rotten.
The wicked and faithless end up alone.
.good racing tho
I first saw this flick a few years ago, not bad at all!
In the final scene bob punches matt for killing Kelly and that's why you need to stand up for yourself
I hated matt but I gotta get it to bob is the real hero who stand up to him
People use to prove their manhood on feet once, now they do so in an Avatar machine.
Whew!!! Good thing she's not wearing a lot of perfume! 1:02:22
Matt reminds me of Charles Schmidt.
Yes. Good observation.

As do I. Nothing worse than being alone, unloved
Onde eu vim parar.... WTFKKKKKKK
I've met Matt's over the years they Always seem to have Glass Jaws.

He was cool, even tho he was a spoiled rich kid with absentee parents.
Life goes to hell for masters when the slaves are gone.
Poor people want to feel sad for rich people when they cry like poor people...only they are not starving to death for us to care one bit.

@BigBishop1
Obviously. That was never in question. I merely stated the obvious, that Mat didn't deliberately set out to run Kelly off the road.
Another web site shows the start of the film with a jazz score style theme was there a
re-issue with the a change in the music under the titles?

The woman ruined everything.
yes she is
One of the "gang" seems to be older with a spreading waistline. Gary Vinson turned up a few years later in the TV series "Roaring Twenties"
According to IMDB this movie came out the same year Roaring Twenties started airing.

@bwild61 I have the song, it's called "High School Ceasar" by Reggie Perkins.
