Thank you for this video. I thought you would need special equipment to change the oil for this car. Do you need to change the crush washer on the drain plug?
You could do that, the washer comes with the filter depending on the brand. But if you don't get one, you can reuse the old one....it's ok...make sure the old one is not that bad damage. I found I needed the Volvo oil filter cartrige wrench adaptor part 9997499. I also used Volvo 32140029 filter insert and gasgets and 0-20 synthetic as noted in their service bulletin.
@@AxtuoAx Once I got the filter cartridge removed all went well. Suggest people drain that filter housing with the small drain plug, then make sure they can remove the filter before proceeding with the draining of the main oil drain (it does NOT empty the whole oil pan contents onto you!) -- I got stuck and could not proceed until the Volvo tool arrived. I tried and failed with an ebay clone tool, and with various other filter tools. Definitely worth it to get the Volvo part.
If I have air suspension on my xc90, is it possible to put it in the highest setting (off-roading) and leave it there. Every time I turn off the car, the suspension lowers itself. If I can raise up with air suspension, I wouldn’t even need to jack the whole car up
The suspension setting can be changed using the central screen on the dash. I have mine set so that car doesn't go down when I turn it off. My wife's XC90 is set to lower but she's only 5'2" lol.
I've done it whenever possible just for the oil level reading to be as accurate as possible as soon as possible after changing the oil. Filters (even small ones) will absorb a deceptive amount of oil; you might see the max mark on the oil meter (or dip stick) when you first check the oil after changing it, but the oil level could drop by as much as a 25% on the dip stick if you didn't pre-fill the filter with oil.
Wow, I feel like I can change my own oil now! Thank you

Good video. How do you reset the service indicator?
Thanks for the video! Quick question: when you screw the oil filter housing back in, how much do you tighten it? is there a torquing specification?
The spec is on the filter housing cap
@@AxtuoAx Excellent; thanks very much!
Where yall from?
Vancouver, Canada@@AxtuoAx
Good video man thanks. Can you do one on where to Jack the car up from?
Sure thing
Not necessary to put castrol edge as indicated ? Thanks.
🫵
recent bulletin requires Castrol to be used again.
Is there any difference between changing the oil into an XC90 plug-in hybrid and a normal diesel or petrol one?
Not really. Same procedure.
@@AxtuoAx Thanks!

Solid vid! Very clear and straight foreward. Is is recommended to add oil to the filter before you reinstall it?
Welcome aboard, CasualMan!...
You could do that, it doesn't hurt. Mechanics use that method to prime diesel engines.
Thanks for watching!!!!

Whats the small alen screw for on the filter housing? Does it need to be loosened up
Some toyota design type
I thought this motor takes 5.9 qts...
Right
6.1 on the 4 cyl.
5w-30? Very strange. I know that all modern volvo engines in Europe requires 0w-20.
Maybe this one was built in US
