Also I had ZERO idea that the ending unknown person did wasn’t the cannon ending, but damn, this actual one kicks ass! So thank you again for bringing this to my, and other’s attention.
Ohhh man, doesn't this bring me back whacky memories. I remember when this was announced of an OCT that consisted of mutuals/ friends to enter I honestly didn't think that was possible and the turnaround was great. Back in my DA days, there was sooo many spectator entries trying to see if any of the major artist will take notice of their SE pages. They were non canon, but I did saw one that one character got to a cameo in an official entry. I did give it a go with my SE entries as well.....lost media at this point but it was fun to draw at least. Endzone and along with LoT did inspire me to get into OCTs later down the line. My fondest memories I had was seeing UP 3rd round was posted but I had to leave on a trip to my Mom Aunt's place for Thanksgiving. Once we go to her place I immediately asked if they had a computer and I quickly signed it and watched it. My cousins were so confused but My sister and I were following this OCT from the very start. When Iris Jay posted her 4th round with the live action skit, we both lost it and couldn't stop quoting it. Ohhhh man! Thank you for taking the time to bring this all together. I know it been ages, but this is quite refreshing to go back to!
Oh my goodness, I didn’t think I’d see much more of Law of Talos. This OCT is one I’ll never forget, one of the most heart wrenching, and other times violent endings in media. Everything about it is splendid to even watch, read, or even just experience in general.
OCTs are a bit of a different experience than anything else, and if people are committed to the lore and background of the world that the tournament takes place in the competitors can help create a good story that flows through their entries and into the finals. This one in particular was an interesting-enough case because of the invite-only nature of the tournament, but the story behind it had a flow that I hadn't really seen in many other OCTs at the time or afterwards. Revisiting this makes me wish I could try getting back into the OCT scene but I know that I just don't have the time to commit to them anymore. It's definitely been fun revisiting this tournament and remembering the characters again. I hope that people watching this that are unfamiliar with OCTs are inspired to look into them a little more, especially since you did reference several others pertaining to some members of the cast here, like the Colloseum and Survivor Deviantart. I can definitely appreciate the effort it must have taken to get a hold of all the lost media for this.
I learned about law of talos from random UA-cam recommendations with all the animations about ten years ago I tried reading all the comics but I got too lazy to track of them down I’m glad someone put in the work to make a full video
I was aware of Endzone (and The Colosseum which had some titanic talent as well) but my first true exposure to the OCT scene was The Cure, which happened sometime after LoT started, as I finished high school. The audition for that was my first serious attempt at a comic, and even if the art and writing weren't the best there were good ideas there, looking back without the context of failing to get into most of the OCTs I tried for it was awesome seeing my work making definitive improvements over time. Ebon Spire felt like the last time an OCT truly felt like a major event for the community, even if Artists at the Ready maintained a solid turnout throughout its lifespan. I am not proud of the person I was when I was first in the thick of the art community, but confronting the worst of me helped me become a better person, and without the artists I met who inspired me to audition I wouldn't be the artist or writer I am today, and I owe so much to OCTs for that. I'm currently working on an art project paying tribute to the OCTs that left the greatest impact on me, and it's wild once again seeing myself improve even between drawings in this project after years of not drawing seriously! It's a shame OCTs as a concept died out. A long form prompt competition is such a great motivator, but sadly there are tons of factors that facilitate it eating its own head, between the splintering of art communities as the years went on, free time just not being a factor in many people's lives, and the dice roll on management for each new tournament that comes out. It's good to see people continue to keep it alive even if its peak has long since passed on the internet as a whole. I mourn the loss, but treasure the memories.
Hot damn, this is like well tempered steel, I've been trying to string together all the events and timelines that happened about the Law of Talos tournament and was always left with roadblocks and gaps unfulfilled due to mostly having other entries gone and obliterated into ashes because the internet was unable to archive most of it but this this is definitive, just what I need to finally satisfy my wild curiosity regarding this OCT tournament, I commend you good sir for your efforts! 👍👍
this is genuinely amazing to see! i was fortunate to follow this tournament along back in the day, alongside older ones and ones that came afterwards, it was such a fun and memorable experience that i wish i could go back to, just going through deviantart, seeing entries, fanart, joke art and etc! my memory is very blurry though, it's been ungodly long since i've read the story again, alongside how as time went on, a lot of stuff was unfortunately deleted and i wasn't able to ever see them again.
though i'm not very active in the fan community it has right now, i do often come back to these, saving links, flashes and art. i'm happy that people are talking and sharing these, even when some things are completely lost to time.
i wanna thank you for putting your time into making a video like this, it both helps me remember things i couldn't recall well, alongside reminding me of how pure and fun time was back then for me, despite the rough things in life. these tournaments are one of the main reasons i even bothered to continue drawing, eventually giving me the dream to animate and create my own characters and universes too! seeing people talk about things i hold dear to my heart always makes me feel less cynical and more sentimental, so i'm really glad that this was made. also i love your music choices, they fit really well and add a lot to the video! 💕
YOOOOO THIS VIDEO IS FANTASTIC! I cannot imagine how much time and effort you and the voice actors must have taken for writing, editing, research and voice acting all of this. OCT entries from the early era are so scattered, I remember struggling to find even basic info on these tournaments. Major props for how much detail you managed to pack in here. Law of Talos inadvertantly got me into OCTs. I watched a video by Four Eyed Guy about Unknown-Person's entries and explaining OCTs and that changed my life. I wouldn't be the person or artist I am today if I didn't click on that random youtube video. I really hope that this amazing documentary could do the same life changing experience for someone else. You were incredibly insightful here. And mannn that editing was absolutely chilling, that speech by the Professor was enhanced to have so much weight and gravity by you and your team's editing and voice acting. I adore the sentiment you share at the beginning and end of this video about the nostalgic nature of steampunk and how the Original Character Tournament community changed your life. OCTs are a little time bubble of history when they were made, but getting to see that queer people were always a part of this fandom's DNA did make me smile. Last thing (I promise!) but thank you so much for shouting out the OCT Newscast. I sometimes worry if running it is the right choice but seeing this really made me feel like there is a purpose for me and my attempts to promote tournaments. Phenominal video, I hope to one day match this caliber of videomaking 🙏 Keep up the great work!
this is awesome. Love seeing all the comics. It was hard to follow the creators in deviantart! especally when some of the contestants accounts were deleted. thank you!
This is awesome and really interesting. I've heard of the Law of Talos before but only saw stuff from Unknown Person so it is really cool to get a better look at the other characters and what else has been created in relation to Law of Talos.
THANK YOU SO MUCH ! I found the doc you linked below beforehand, but actually getting a full explanation and even some comic entries that were impossible for me to find made me so happy 😭😭 Thank you so much once again and actually talking about this lost treasure
I remember first finding this tournament as I followed one of the creators that entered it. They're still creating art to this day, which I've enjoyed. EDIT: Thank you for making this video Bananas! It's been a long time since I looked into the lore of this OCT, and was pleasantly surprised at the quality and your delivery of it. EDIT EDIT: I removed a line referencing a possible (albeit very minor) controversy that I can't find evidence for after doing another check to make sure of my facts, so I won't take the chance of causing issues for someone who may be innocent of it. (I didn't give any names in the first place, but still).
I honestly am so grateful to see a video like this. Seeing the OCTs back then as a teen got me so interested in artists online and really showed me that there is value in creating your own characters. I also am glad that I can see a video that archives events like this ( even with the limit info there is ). I never really dwelled much about the other contestants or what happened afterwards. So thank you for making this video. Also Karl...KARL. Love to hate the pirate.
The one I followed was the robot named Spoiler, his brother's body was destroyed and had his memory chip put into his sword so he has a talking sword. But Spoiler had some kind of inky evil inside him that sometimes came out and overtook his body like a black ooze, and this form of him was named "Black Ace" and there was one instance with a sniper where he would keep referencing nursery rhymes while being this ruthless pursuer. The most interesting encounter though involved a burning city and was very dramatic and cinematic I don't know how to find it though.
OMG I didn't watch the whole video and maybe I won't understand everything in this video (becouse English isn't my native language) but I'll watch this video from beginning to end 😼 Thank you guys for making this kind of video! Becouse I've known about oct (and Unknown Person especially) only around year and a lot of important things might be lost so really thank you! Now people can have a chance to know EVERYTHING about "oh so mysterious Law of Talos" I would be even more happy if you'll make subs for this video but you don't have to! I still can watch this video and still understand 80% of this ;) Thank you for your work! (And hello from Russia 🙋♂️)
Wow, absolutely amazing video. I always wanted to know more about each entry since I started getting into LOT as a child. Only for it to be very difficult for me to find entries or who won each entry. Thank you for all your hard work in preserving this wonderful OCT. Also, hope it isn’t too much trouble. But what soundtrack was used in 1:30:37? It’s very beautiful
I'm surprised you didn't bring up that zaril had actually made a what if comic of black Ace fighting kral. I remembered being on his Is eviant art back and it looked awesome. This really made me wish that unknown person would make a series out of castle nation already do you know how popular it Would be
I have to say this video is amazing and really help me to learn about law of Talos and get back into it again, but I was wondering, could you make a video about the other tournament end zone?
I noticed that you didn't show the animation from unknown-person's final round. I was really confused because in the animation the ending was a lot different.
It's great seeing so much of what I thought was lost media preserved here, and I loved how you edited together the narration between each entry. I've been trying to save what I can of the OCTs I followed back in the day and it was a huge bummer not being able to find Owen's LoT comics. Being aware of this community makes such a yawning chasm of lost media kinda scary. Were you planning on covering any other major OCTs? There are a few others that pretty strong foundations for the concept even if they didn't have the wild popularity of the ones with UP on board.
@@andyetnobananas I never followed Endzone, but I'd be curious to see what I missed considering it was the start of a lot of things Law of Talos developed.
Really liked the background music choices
You just gave me closure to a decades-long search.
Wow, somehow this fandom has such devoted watchers, this is amazing!
The lonely fish boi is my favorite
2:04:51 oh neat homestuck music
IT IS WTF
this is genuinely amazing to see! i was fortunate to follow this tournament along back in the day, alongside older ones and ones that came afterwards, it was such a fun and memorable experience that i wish i could go back to, just going through deviantart, seeing entries, fanart, joke art and etc!
my memory is very blurry though, it's been ungodly long since i've read the story again, alongside how as time went on, a lot of stuff was unfortunately deleted and i wasn't able to ever see them again.
though i'm not very active in the fan community it has right now, i do often come back to these, saving links, flashes and art. i'm happy that people are talking and sharing these, even when some things are completely lost to time.
i wanna thank you for putting your time into making a video like this, it both helps me remember things i couldn't recall well, alongside reminding me of how pure and fun time was back then for me, despite the rough things in life. these tournaments are one of the main reasons i even bothered to continue drawing, eventually giving me the dream to animate and create my own characters and universes too! seeing people talk about things i hold dear to my heart always makes me feel less cynical and more sentimental, so i'm really glad that this was made.
also i love your music choices, they fit really well and add a lot to the video! 💕
I've rewatched this about 4 times. I think I love you because of this video.
CHIMBLEY POU
Ok, Now I will understand what my friends are talking about
YOOOOO THIS VIDEO IS FANTASTIC!
Thank you so much for the kind words ^^ I've been asked a couple of times for resources for finding OCTs and you were the account I always pointed to~
this is awesome.
Also the voice actors you picked are great and the fact you use them sparingly is great and helps highlight the important moments you do use them!
Gods… I remember watching as this whole thing played out. Was a damn fun ride!
I loved this series when it came out
I honestly am so grateful to see a video like this.
Love to hate the pirate.
imagine karl somehow comes back to life
This would've murdered young me if i discoverd this back when i got internet access
Discovered this masterpiece in 2022 of December and oh boy that's good 2000s crap
OMG
I didn't watch the whole video and maybe I won't understand everything in this video (becouse English isn't my native language) but I'll watch this video from beginning to end 😼
Thank you guys for making this kind of video! Becouse I've known about oct (and Unknown Person especially) only around year and a lot of important things might be lost so really thank you! Now people can have a chance to know EVERYTHING about "oh so mysterious Law of Talos"
I would be even more happy if you'll make subs for this video but you don't have to! I still can watch this video and still understand 80% of this ;)
Thank you for your work! (And hello from Russia 🙋♂️)
Epic, I always felt like there was something new to discover with this OCT, but now with every part told, wow
Thank you so much for making this video. It’s nice to have everything summed up
Thanks for making this ima ultranut 😊
im crying.
It’s very beautiful
so that's the full story, hope all the artists are okay.
This is so well done !!!
Might take a wee while to watch this video from start to finish.
So many wonderful artist that i just have to pause and find each and every one.
Truly wonderful! Now I want to try and join an OCT!
I included a resource for finding new OCTs in the credits~
I'm surprised you didn't bring up that zaril had actually made a what if comic of black Ace fighting kral. I remembered being on his Is eviant art back and it looked awesome. This really made me wish that unknown person would make a series out of castle nation already do you know how popular it Would be
I have to say this video is amazing and really help me to learn about law of Talos and get back into it again, but I was wondering, could you make a video about the other tournament end zone?
Amazing video
OH MY GOD THANK YOU!
I noticed that you didn't show the animation from unknown-person's final round. I was really confused because in the animation the ending was a lot different.
that's because unknown person lost that round, so its uncanon :3
karls not dead karls not dead karls not dead karls not dead karls not dead... Karls... NOT DEAD PLEASE KARLS NOT DEAD
oh thank god i didnt finish the video when i commented this
you cant be serious
@@crystalbandits yeah he was brought back just to make sure his corpse was in the way that would anger him the most
I’m gonna hold your hand when I say this 😔
Me real
THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN
❤❤❤ thank you
It's great seeing so much of what I thought was lost media preserved here, and I loved how you edited together the narration between each entry.
I'm probably doing Endzone. If these videos are popular enough, I'd love to expand into other ones too.
@@andyetnobananas I never followed Endzone, but I'd be curious to see what I missed considering it was the start of a lot of things Law of Talos developed. Sometimes I wonder where I'd be if I won the coin toss to enter Survivor: DA hahaha.
I dunno how I could help but I would love lending my hand for some history or other bookkeeping for whatever you might cover!
@@andyetnobananaspLSS DO ENDZONE EVEN IF THIS VID ISNT POPULAR 🙏

For some reason this video makes me want to make a full ass In-depth explanation video about black ace/spoiler since he’s an interesting oct Character along with rip. Also would you by any chance have anymore info on red ace? (Also this video is cool as hell)
Ooh this is fantastic!!
Endzone complete story pov new vídeo
Check out the two kill six billion demons OCT'S
Just FYI, around 37:30 your voice starts getting overpowered by the music for a bit
1:45:42 did anyone else catch the kid icarus music??
Hey can you help me out, where exactly does the last video of unknown-persons video in the timeline
Unknown-Person's last video is technically not "canon" to the telling of events here since I believe the winning entries were the ones used to construct the story shown in this video.
@@tophatgeo Oh ok, thanks I mean the ending is still great feels good to finally know what happened 😄 after all this years of seeing this back in new grounds.
Damn after all these years i never knew Karl was the Villian
Hey bro, will be Endzone the complete story?
I wish there was a Spanish translation of the comics but of this video :,)
