Okay ,so I'm Bulgarian,I don't know much Russian even though they are similar languages but I still think 80 % of the English translation has nothing to do with the original lyrics...
No,no,just look. As I've said , I'm Bulgarian ,don't know Russian but I don't think that , e.g. "Ты прости, как братьев и сестер" is translated to "Heal my heart and call my soul". That is rather "Forgive us as brothers and sisters"
I really like that song. However, it makes me ponder about two things: 1) Why do people look at me like I'm weird, listening to Russian music, when I'm European and even with some slavic blood, but everyone is fine, when I listen to English, French or Spanish? I speak neither Spanish nor Russian, so what's the difference? 2) As an Austrian, I'm a native German speaker. However, I find German, Spanish and Russian pretty underwhelming when it comes to their sound as a spoken language. Still, I really like their sound in songs, especially when it comes to Spanish and Russian (with German songs I'm really bitchy). How can it be, that it sounds good in a song, but a bit crude in every day conversation?
edi haha in Bulgarian we sound like we argue when we talk bit in reality that's how we are. Same as Russians we are Slavs whose blood boils, so we have passion and straight and glory in us. As for why people are looking at you is because their stupid and don't want to think outside the box. Forget them enjoy the music and live life, you don't need negativity in your life. For me Kalevala sounds majestic, almost like your going on a quest in the mountains. Very interesting music and unique.
The subs on chorus are pretty fucked or just interprited "artisticly". But second line of chorus doesn't translate at all as "Heal my heart and call me your soul" It is "Forgive us like you did brothes and sisters" Other lines are translated similarly but they atleast share the same meaning.
I don't know why, but, this makes me feel so nostalgic and sad
Ich versteh zwar kein Wort, aber das ist trotzdem Gänsehaut pur!

It is impossible to make the translation from any Slavic language to English. I am about to make the English cover for this with my band.
