Lisa Baltzer No way! Figures were an extremely difficult skill even though they may have lacked any sense of presentation. Back paragraph long figures involved a powerful push from a standstill where the skaters had to be skilled on both the "fast side" and the "slow side" doing things at a certain size and shape that was judged up close and than they had to retrace. The paragraph loop figures involved complete mastery of active power edges. Under pressure it took nerves of steal with no room for error. The debate over compulsories will always be controversial, but one thing for sure, figures were an art in and of themselves and they should be preserved even if they are just an individual event.
Happy Birthday for the 17th :-) It's really nice to hear that you came back to skating after a while off. Did you get where you wanted to with ballet? Certainly explains the control you show over the moves. I can never get my arms to cooperate as I never danced (or skated) as a child! So are you back now to where you were with skating before, when you used to compete? and the fact you did you Jr test (only just starting to understand the US system) - that's a higher level than the adult MIF?
Thank you for the B-day wishes. I have surpassed by far where I was when I quit skating. What happens with MIF is there are 4 adult levels (Pre-bronze, Bronze, Silver, Gold) and they are a mash-up of patterns from the Pre-preliminary, Preliminary, Pre-Juv and Juvenile tests. After that, adults who want to continue on with MIF tests then learn the same patterns for Intermediate, Novice, Jr and Sr that the kids learn. There are lower passing score requirements for Adults and for Masters.
Thanks for explaining that! Makes sense then why what you were doing was so hard even though it was only junior! I haven't been tested at all yet but hope to do my FM1 (which I think is equivalent to Bronze) sometime next year, mainly to allow me to start to compete. I'm just starting to work on a routine now too :-) Like Diana T says you are an inspiration to adult skaters everywhere! Plus you always have such great outfits as well! Please keep posting videos :-)
These are beautiful. May I ask if you tested using the adult passing average or the standard? I am almost 29 and working on my senior moves - trying to decide which route to take.!
Thank you!!! I will be 31 on the 17th. :) I skated and competed in elementary school, then quit to focus on ballet. I've been back at it for 3 years in January.
Oh wow you truly were so amazing that I think I didn’t even breath while watching. Simply mesmerizing and lovely. I’m just starting my MIF testing - going to do standard track as an adult. I hope I look as good as you do one day.
This looks harder than the old school figures!
not even close-figures were way harder! trust me!

Oops! I meant steel not steal.
Aw thanks you!! I promise to keep posting videos :) I look forward to following your progress as well!
Passed using the standard average.
Love watching your videos and like Diana T said, you are truly an inspiration for adult skaters
