As someone who's eyes have been opened by the Lord (Praise you God!), I have completely come out of the charismatic movement. I am so incredibly grateful to have been awakened to that false belief system. And I'm a bit sad that I gave it as many years as I did. I've been there, done that with all the charismatic eisegesis free-for-all and false teachers/prophets/apostles. Thank you gentlemen for all of your ministries - God's Holy Word is enough for me and my heart is so full!

Praise God for sound podcasts like the G3 Podcast. Blessed way of using modern technology to the glory of God the Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
I will say with the risk of going off topic, a lack of study on Pneumatology results in this charismatic frenzy that the Church has been experiencing.

Thank you, gentlemen, for this video and upcoming conference -- I wish I could attend. I want to especially thank Justin for his comments about error leading to more error and the slippery slope from Sam Storms and soft charismaticism to Benny Hinn. In my own walk, I have found that as I come to a deeper appreciation of God's holiness and the sufficiency of Scripture, I also come to a deeper realization that even the most superficially innocent, supposedly uplifting, and innocuous-sounding tidbit of extra-biblical revelation constitutes an egregious violation of the biblical prohibition against blasphemy when it is not actually from God. It is no small matter to say "I feel like God is saying . . ." when He isn't actually saying it, and that should give every "cautious charismatic" pause.

    • @AdventureSMBW
      @AdventureSMBW 2 місяці тому

I "feel" like God is saying is placing the trust and possible fault on the person saying it, not God. If anything, putting the responsibility on themselves keeps them from misrepresenting God by saying "God is saying." So if it turns out not to be true, one can simply acknowledge that they were incorrect, and then they can thank God that he kept them from presumptuously speaking in His name. What exactly is the problem there?

I grew up in the charismatic movement, having seen the damage it can do I chose to have nothing to do with it. Our conservative SBC church recently, 3-4 years ago hired a new pastor. He passes all the sniff test, until he introduced Blackaby, including having him speak, twice, in the past few years. So I’ve pulled my family out and parted ways. There’s a decent sized group that has left as well for many of the same reasons that I have. Locally it seems that the best option is a PCA church.
G3 and Justin keep up the good work.

Thank you for this discussion. At times I believe we fight because we don't understand each other's language as you said. I remember nearly 40 years ago listening to one of our student leaders telling me why they employed a friend of mine into their ministry. He said "I prayed and I thought, prayed and thought. Then suddenly the name came to me'. A charismatic person would have said I prayed and listened to the Lord and God spoke to me. Yes I know there is a lot that is off. I believe whatever God says is within the parameters of scripture. I pray the Lord helps us walk in the truth.

I am so thankful for my intimate relationship with Jesus, through the Holy Spirit. At one time I allowed this kind of teaching to cause me to question the viability of the spiritual gifts in 1 Cor 12-14. I have repented of this teaching and while I continue to never allow anything to be elevated above the Scriptures (a true definition of sufficiency), I enjoy a wonderful relationship with the Lord and remain open to the Spirit’s work in and through His church. We are supposed to be of one mind and one Spirit, yet you brothers keep drawing the line of orthodoxy tighter and tighter- until only you will be in it, which is not a commendation.

I hope anybody from G3 can reply back. I suppose every reformed believer knows the story of George Müller, his total dependency on God putting all his faith that God answers prayers of His chosen people. That God still uses people to bless people who have a deeper faith in Him. Does this also ceased? That at this time and age, there is no way God can manifest Himself or He cannot show His presence anymore to us who are humbly crying as we surrender our lives to Him and His ministry? That for some of us who have a broken family that cries for healing and restoration cannot at all see God's righteous right hand to mend our family's broken hearts for my mistakes? That there is still a divine intervention that i will be able to be reconciled with them according to God's proper time. Is our christianity just head knowledge of what the bible says and no impact in our hearts?

I wish you had included all the names of the speakers in the trailer for the conference. They may not be familiar to everyone.
I got saved in the late 80s. I know we went through the Experiencing God book, but I honestly don't recall specifics. It seemed a one time thing. I don't recall that the church got all wrapped up in it or anything.
"When God speaks to you in your quiet time immediately write down what he said."
Did Blackaby mean when God speaks to you from God's Word? Or just some random feeling? I can't remember. I wish I still had the book so I could read it again now that I'm decades older in Christ.
    11:31
"And I think with a lot of people it's just they're they're a little careless with the terminology and they don't actually mean that God spoke to them in a direct quotable sense."
YES! I am glad Justin touched on this because I was going to say the same thing. I have never been in Pentecostal churches. My experience has been in basic, non-denominational churches. Taking the example of the man who brought the book saying that the author had said God told him to write it (or however exactly it was worded) sometimes, all people mean is that they felt a deep burden to do something. They don't mean that God spoke audibly to them. Or even in their mind. And they wouldn't claim that their book (or whatever else) is on par with Scripture. This language has become a sort of shorthand.
The thing is, this language is EVERYWHERE. People say they were "called" to be a pastor or "called" to the mission field. So what do you do with that?
I'll have to watch the rest later.

I have a question, the word says when we ask Christ into our lives, He will send us a helper. Doesn’t this refer to the Spirit of Christ that will come and abide in the believers? After Jesus said that he will send a Counselor, he added in V.18: “I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you”. John 14:16-18 is based on the premise that Jesus will give up his spirit in death on the cross to make it available to all believers, in order to give us his spirit, he had to separate himself from it and commit it into his Father hand. My question is, isn’t this “Helper” the Holy Spirit? If so isn’t the Holy Spirit part of the Trinity? Doesn’t this “Helper” speak to us and lead us and guide us every day? I’m not a Cessationist, I just have this question. Thanks!

Sorry brother, doubt they will be doing any "exegeting". Usually conferences like this is basically ad hominem attacks against individuals within the Charismatic camp. On the charismatic side there are plenty of clear, explicit verses which assume continuation: Acts 2, 1 Cor 14, 1 Thessalonians 5..... 1 Cor 13:8-12 and so on... (there are more!) But there is NONE on the cessationist side.
None of the clear positive verses in the Bible which assume continuation are discussed in any way by this group of brothers.
If you want to understand 1 Cor 13:8.... a great verse to look at is 1 Corinthians 1:7 (since its in the same book).
1 Cor 1:7 assumes that the gifts continue (not lacking in ANY gift) as we wait for the 'revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ".
This is very helpful because it parallels 1 Cor 13:8, where instead of "face to face' the words used this time is the "revealing of our lord Jesus Christ".
In other words... the face to face in 1 Cor 13 is not referring to the closing of the canon (!!!!!!!! :) ) but the revealing of our lord Jesus Christ.
'face to face (1 Cor 13) is = to 'revealing of the Lord Jesus (1 Cor 1:7). This is a much better fit.

The Bible itself has numerous cases of God speaking to his people in various ways. Of course we use the Bible as a guide and filter as to determine what is in alignment with the WOG.
God will guide us through his HS things like Who to marry (or not). The Bible itself won’t tell you that, other than to marry a believer.
These people at the table mistake the Sufficiency of Scripture as somehow exhaustive, in a way that stifles the voice of the spirit that God has put in every believer. It’s the Bible itself that teaches that the HS will guide us where there is no specific direction.
Be a Cessationist if you want, but don’t fool yourself into restricting the use of the WOG in a way that God never intended.

Also, people that question God's voice, do you think Satan will tell you to read your Bible, help a certain person, things to do to lead someone to Christ etc. And, do you think God will tell you to do ungodly things? God started existence with speaking. His first interactions with Adam and Eve is speaking. He speaks to people throughout the whole Old Testament and this continues through the whole New Testament. At what point does the Bible say it stops? The whole Bible points to God speaking to people. This just stops with canonization without it ever being mentioned once in the canonized scripture? No. They're selective. Im sure Paul Washer isnt a false teacher to them, even thought he's clearly stated, "I dont see, in the scripture, where tongues and those things have ceased" and "I've seen God heal people." And then Ray Comfort is probably good too, even though you can easily find him recounting several dramatic experiences with deliverence. But if you're not in their specific reformed circle and believe those things, then yes, you are definitely a false teacher.

Are you saying that Scripture was only sufficient after the completion of the cannon, or was it sufficient also before the completion of the cannon? I don't see how the doctrine of the sufficiency of scripture disallows for continuationism. Surely, not all prophecy was for the purpose of becoming scripture. We know of many prophets of whom we don't have their prophecies. Also most evangelicals are waiting for the two prophets mentioned in Revelation. How does that comply with cessationism. I have to say that I don't see the two sides truly engaging with the arguments of their opponents. A lot of speaking past one another seems to be happening. I don't see anywhere in Scripture that God has now limited himself to communication to us exclusively through Scripture, that itself seems to me to be an extrascriptural teaching that proves cessationism is false.

What about the four hundred silent years between the closing of the Old Testament and the inauguration of the New? Are YOU saying that God can't operate in ANY dispensation He chooses? The two witnesses _to come_ are prophecy that has not yet been fulfilled. The fact that there are still prophecies to be fulfilled in no way opens the door for every Tom, Dick, and Harry to say "God told me..." or "I had a dream...." The Canon of Scripture is closed. God has spoken THROUGH HIS WORD. Period.

@@marthaj67What four hundred silent years? Is this a scriptural doctrine? Four hundred years without additional scripture, does not equate with 400 silent years. No, I am not saying "that God can't operate in ANY dispensation He chooses?" Where did that come from? Who is opening the door to anybody? There have always been false prophets and God has given in the Scriptures teaching on how we should test them. The canon of Scripture being closed cannot mean that prophecy is closed, for not all prophecy was to be written down for the edification of future generations. We do not need new Scripture as the faith has been entrusted to the saints once and for all. That does not mean he doesn't use prophecy to reveal people's hearts, or to encourage or warn his children. For example, why do you think it would be a denial of Scripture if God via prophecy today warned a local church of a soon coming famine or war? How would that be a negation of the sufficiency of Scripture. Based on what Scripture could God not do that?
