I spent many hours over a period of months traveling in the four power cars fitted with Mirrlees MB190 engines. I designed the engine control system and was there to keep an eye on it to see that all was ok. Happy days, being sucked against the cooling system when walking through. The MB190 could make them shift especially when on odd occasions both the leading and trailing power cars were MB190s. I wish I had thought of doing some video of it at the time but I didn't have my youtube channel back in those days. You video brought back happy memories. 🙂

Hi Bill, I uploaded this clip a good few years ago now it was a rare occasion we had a HST stabled on our depot (Central rivers) so I took opportunity to explore the classic beast. Only regrets I have are adding that silly music to the clip 😅. Your lovely comment has made that upload worth it and I'm glad it has triggered some great memories mate.

@@Deej-85 Thanks for your reply. Music is very subjective. I guess that there will be some who really like it but for me it did not spoil the video. If only I could go back in time and document the ones with the MB190 engines, right from testing an engine at Mirrlees, my design of the engine control system, my visits to British Rail learning about their standards and noise suppression methods and the testing at Derby and then some of the traveling about in service. There were some breakdowns but thankfully not with my bit and many unrelated to the engine. At one time something dropped off the underneath bouncing along under the train damaging the air lines for the brakes. We were stuck there for ages. 🙂

We're 9 and 11 year old and we went in the same engine room wile the engine was running as it had just been going 125 mph. It was a east Midlands class 43. YEET

Hope the drivers are not forced to listen to that soundtrack. I would need rehabilitation after 8 hours of that.

Did I count 4 turbos? 2 per bank?

Yes that’s correct 4 baby turbos instead of the one mahoosive Napier turbo on the Paxman valenta! So no scream :-(
Also probably better as not so much lag and fuel economy, still prefer the valenta tho
