  • David from MACkite discusses his first experience riding the brand-new 2025 North Orbit Pro kite during a session in Brazil. He compares it to the 2024 Orbit Pro kites, providing insights into the differences and improvements he noticed during his trials on the 10-meter and 8.1-meter versions.
    Initial Impressions and Setup
David starts by mentioning that he took the 10-meter 2025 Orbit Pro out on a day with light winds. He was still determining if the conditions would be ideal since there were many 12-meter kites in use. However, he was eager to compare the new kite to the 2024 version he had been riding for a year.
    Key Differences Noticed
David quickly noticed that the 2025 Orbit Pro felt faster and seemed higher in the wind window than the 2024 model. He attributes these changes to the new N-Max 2 material used on the leading edge, which has a smaller diameter. This was evident when he picked up the kite; it felt lighter, and the difference in the diameter was noticeable.
    Performance in Loops and Jumps:
The 2025 Orbit Pro kite felt faster through loops and provided more vertical pull during jumps. This was a significant change, as the previous 2024 Pro didn’t offer as distinct a difference from the 2023 regular Orbit kites. David emphasized that the transition from the 2024 Pro to the 2025 Pro was more noticeable than the shift from the 2023 regular Orbit to the 2024 Pro.
    Changes in Wind Window Positioning:
One of the critical differences David noticed was how the 2025 Orbit Pro naturally sits higher in the wind window. He observed that the kite tended to hover higher than the 2024 model even when standing on the beach, with the bar feeling closer to him. This characteristic gives the kite a more vertical pull during jumps and enhances its upwind abilities.
    Design and Material Enhancements
The 2025 Orbit Pro's leading edge has been reduced by approximately 8 liters in total volume. This reduction directly impacts the kite’s positioning in the wind window, helping it sit higher. Additionally, the kite features a new five-point bridle attachment system instead of the previous four-point, contributing to its improved lift and performance.
    Low-End Performance and Wind Range
David noted that the 2025 Orbit Pro has improved low-end performance, addressing some complaints about the 2024 Pro’s wind range. The 2025 model performs better in light wind conditions, making it more versatile and giving it a broader wind range. The kite still sat high in the wind window, even slightly underpowered, indicating enhanced low-end performance.
    8.1-Meter Kite and Looping
During his session with the 8.1-meter version, David experienced high winds and executed several loops, including boogie loops. He found that the kite turned quickly and caught him faster than the previous 2024 Pro, making it ideal for riders interested in big air and looping. This new performance characteristic also offers more forgiveness during takeoff, which benefits intermediate riders.
    Stability and Final Thoughts
The 2025 Orbit Pro remained stable in the air despite the reduced leading edge, even during lighter winds. David praised North's steps forward with the new design, stating that it’s suitable for intermediate riders venturing into big air and looping. He emphasized that the kite provides faster turning, vertical lift, and greater jump height.

What do you think is the minimum skill level to change from standard orbit '24 to a pro version?

No skill level it's advertisement. Standard orbit just has higher bar compared to Pro version. Unfortunately the 24 orbit pro does not come with a repair kit though

@@rftfameI’m not sure this is true, both of my 2024 pros came with a repair kit

While I don’t think there’s any type of minimum skill level required to use one vs the other. The Pro is a bit faster which can make hitting the “sweet spot” when sending the kite a bit more difficult. Naturally you’re rewarded for the effort with a bit of a boost on the jump but if you’re newer, I would suggest staying with the regular orbit for a while as it’s friendlier. Hope that helps!
