Of a lot of newer cars I drove, the Sonata has the best steering feel. Very comfortable feel.

Recently drove a 2016 sport model of Sonata and I have to say I was pretty impressed by the way it drove, the smooth ride.
BMW can't figure out that people want connectivity; they don't support Android Auto in the meantime Hyundai is knocking it out of the park!
Not my kinda of car but Hyundai is making others look bad.
My dad just got a 2017 Sonata Limited 2.0T due to a huge $6000 rebate and the more and more I look at this the more I wish we got a 2018. No wounder why the rebate on the old model was so high, because this generation is just so much better!!

Just bought a 2019 Sonata Limited 2.0T and love it. The power form 1400RPM to 4000RPM is amazing.

The biggest surprise is that Hyundai killed the pano roof in the new Sonata..
I was really surprised as well . . . Had an honest conversation with Mike O'Brien who heads up Product for Hyundai Motor America about it. He could have given me a whole line about weight in the roof, blah blah blah but instead he was VERY honest and he said that while customers like the pano roofs they didn't want to pay extra for the option in this segment. That's why they took out both the Panoramic Sunroof as well as the heated rear seat in the Sonata.

Brian Bautista Wow, I agree. I for one LOVE both of those features, makes the car feel more upscale than it actually is. Also, it's just flat out cool to have a sunroof that stretches the whole roof IMO!
Sad to hear that . It is still offered in the rest of the world though. Maybe the US market don't care for pano roofs.
The REAL reason is they have had nothing but problems with the pano roof on the 2015 and 2016 Sonata's. All kinds of problems like squeaking and rattling requiring thousands of customers to have warranty claims. plus a recall on all pano roofs (risk of entire sunroof coming out at highway speeds). We have a 2015 and the pano roof has been relatively problem free but go on any owners forum and its a major issue for many. Two years with our 2015 Sonata Limited 2.4 have been good, wife's car she loves it and would buy another.
Damn, killing the pano for this car means that I won't even considering replaced my 15 ultimate with this one. I'll pick up an optima if thats the case when I decide to replace mine.

cano malo: What did you decide on? My 2015 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T is nearing end-of-lease and I took a look at a 2018 Sonata this morning while the SF was getting its oil changed. Very nice car (2.0T Limited, or whatever - mineral gray - perfect!!) and I'm ambivalent about a panoramic roof, which is why I didn't get one in the Santa Fe. I had my heart decided on a Kia Optima, but the customer service at the dealership sent me across the highway to Hyundai.
Maybe a better-optioned Camry to match the one my wife has, or try my luck with Kia...I'll figure it out in a couple of months.
This car at least doesn't look like an automotive cockroach like the new Accord does. lol.
My Honda Sport is okay. But this car offers way more for $$$!
Hyundai really keeps a finger on the pulse of its customers. Honestly. This mid year refresh addresses almost every complaint from the original release for that year. Really really love my 2018 Hyundai Sonata Limited 2.0T+. The only differences I can spot between mine and the one you’re driving here is that mine is in Symphony Silver and has the panoramic sunroof. I wonder what else would be different since I do have the version of this but with the larger sunroof?
Something no one ever mentions is the tight turn radius of the 2018 Sonata. I can make a 180 degree turn on most streets. It's really nice to have a car that turns this tight.

Given similar street prices, would you buy the Limited 2.0T over a Camry XSE 2.5? Seems like the Sonata has the better value proposition but which is the better car?
When comparing competitors' wheel-base length, why did you not mention Accord?

Better mpg is a plus, but in most cases I wouldn't expect it to be the deciding factor. I also think that anyone considering this 2.0 turbo model will expect somewhat lower mileage as a tradeoff for the improved performance.
Mpg matters to me which is why I like their hybrids
I have a 2012 and my steering feels to tight. If you turn the wheel you can almost feel the tread moving in the road.
I don't think mpg matters to most buyers in the segment. If that were the case, more people would be going to for Altima (39mpg) or the 6 with i-eloop (40mpg... Do they even make it anymore?). Instead, they go for the Toyota Camry with the previous generation achieving nearly the worst base-engine fuel economy in the segment at 33mpg. I think this is just simply the fact that people are brand snobs. It's hard for automakers to gain market share these days because of it, even when they try to make their cars the best they can be.

Hyundai fuel & power numbers are always below average even with similar equipment. I have owned many so don't think I am bashing them, but it's the truth.
I don't care about apple car play or android auto, I want the treble control to work as it should!
Nice car but I think I would still choose the 2018 Honda Accord. They both have just about the exact same base price.

Best car reviews on UA-cam--you are always my go to first review. Your opinion carries a lot of weight with me. Hyundai has a ways to go to shake the cheap car image, but this car and the Elantra Sport are impressive enough to do just that. Definitely a car company to watch. Like you, I was impressed with the Sport but cannot locate the one I want--dual clutch automatic with premium pkg. The new Sonata might be a good candidate to replace my aging Accord V6.
JCT3 literally every 5th car on the road is either a Hyundai or Kia.. they also sell an upscale brand that competes directly with the best luxury cars from Europe and Japan. Their entry level sports sedan just won pretty much every award a car can win for 2019. They’ve been able to do in just under 3 years, what the proven Japanese brands haven’t been able to do in 30 years. Unseat the 3 series as the best sports sedan on the market.
I think it’s safe to say, they’ve already shed their “cheap car image” as you put it.
Anyone who thinks the Koreans are still making cars like they were in the 90’s has never driven one from the past 10 years. They are a world class auto maker.

Hooray for the steering wheel. The current model and the last couple of years look like it was from the spare parts bin from the mid 1990s. Not a bad design but it just seemed a bit lazy.

Let the right people at Hyundai know that the treble control in ALL 2018 Hyundai Sonata Limited 2.0Ts DO NOT WORK! The treble controls slider goes from -10 to +10, but there is no change in the high frequency sound, like there should be! I tried the new cars in dealers, and they ALL DO NOT WORK AS THEY SHOULD! The bass and midrange controls work as they should, even though I would prefer the frequency of the midrange control to be higher in frequency, around 3kHz! It is too low in frequency now to do any good! Anyway, the treble control should work! Hyundai and Infinity need to fix this now and produce an update for the radio!

when it comes to a "driving review"....how do those paddle shifters shift? What is the zero to 60 time? Its the car rear or front wheel drive? How did you like it when pressing thru a turn? And as far as trunk space....how do those golf clubs fit?

Simone Lazzerini i drove the optima, it has no where near the extra bells and whistles that the sonata does, u would have to get the cadenza for 43k.......
I would beg to differ, Toni Elmendorf. I own a 2016 Optima SXL. In its restyle, the 2018 Sonata carries over many of the features (technically and stylistically) found on the 2016 Optima. Moreover, some options available on the Optima are no longer available on the 2018 Sonata.
They got rid of the quad exhaust tips or whatever you call it shame...
The MPG difference becomes less relevant as the MPG numbers increase. A 10% increase in MPG is my magic number. Someone who drives a lot more will probably be happy with a 3% increase in MPG.

The TREBLE control on the radio doesn't work AT ALL ON ALL 2018 Sonata Limited 2.0T models! I hope Infinity and Hyundai fix this real soon! The slider for the TREBLE works, but it doesn't change the sound at all like it should! WHERE IS THE QUALITY CONTROL AT INFINITY? I want the TREBLE control in my 2018 Hyundai Sonata Limited 2.0T to work! The BASS and MIDRANGE controls work as they should, but the MIDRANGE frequency should be higher (say 3kHz), it is too low in frequency to do any good! Where is the firmware update?

No mention of the Kia optima? Granted it is a sister company, but it still falls in the midsize category.
The better MPG is a plus, for sure. Most of the time you don't have to pay a huge deal more for an Accord or a Camry or a Mazda 6 with better MPG than the Sonata. The Fusion hybrid starts at 25k. There isn't so much of a $ penalty for better MPG or hybrid power train. Also, seems average new car price is 35k$ or nearby! Gets you any loaded D segment car.
The starting price for a car is meaningless. What you want to do is compare prices as similarly equipped. Again, Hyundai leads.
While I love the pano roof in my elantra gt, if I were to buy a 2018 gt I would avoid that option at all costs. While I like how it looks, I rarely use it and I worry about the long term durability of it. For me, the real deal breaker for this car is it not coming with a manual. At least offer one on the sport trims like the accord does. And the Mazda6 for that matter
They should have never lowered the HP from the 2011, 2012... models. BIG mistake! You always want to INCREASE the HP!

I got my first Sonata in 2014. Trade it in for a 2017. Gonna trade that in in a few years with the latest Sonata unless it turns out to be a total crap car.
The top of the line Kia Optima and Sorento offer the same exact infotainment, plus the pano roofs.
Did they update the steering and rear suspension to be on par with the 2018 Sonata though? If so, sounds good to me.

You can learn a lot from rentals. I remember hiring a circa 2007/08 model and I thought to myself, 'this ain't a bad car, better than that mag' reveiw'. A couole years ago I hired the Elantra (previous generation) and suddenly it was high on the hit list.

A combination of never getting around to it, no launches or not as much viewer interest.
Why not put an access button on the trunk istead of having to using remote. I currently own a 11 gls. Im not a big fan of these interiors espescialy in a sport model☹. I love my hyundai's but this along with the 15-17 models, they went backwards. This interior layout is more from the Genesis line.

Anyone have a good recommendation of what I should pay for a 2018 Sonata Limited. Seems like the dealers think we don't know that the Mfr suggested retail price is not the true price. Any ideas?

dam.. i was looking at the Kia Optima 2018 sxl... the difference I believe with the two are, the leather seats, the pano roof, the blue link, the 360 degree camera, and the lane keep ( for hyndai only?).... Anyone shed some light on if the Optima is worth it?
Hyundai really needs to improve the interior. Other than that, it's a killer car.

I have a 2015 limited with pano roofand leather seats. The interiors are pretty nice if you ask me EVERYONE who has got in my car says either wow or damn. They have a few variations. Mine is black. But the white one with peanut butter leather and trim is beautiful.
This is the only car in this category that has piano type control buttons. Others have awkward push-in control buttons.
Why do you exclude the Honda Accord from your comparisons with this car?

MPG just needs to be reasonable. It is one of the least important features to me. I want reliability in a car with European driving dynamics, mature styling, up to date electronics, with a certain amount of comfort especially in the seats and driving position plus a decent warranty and all at affordable price. It sounds to me like Hyundai is moving in that direction.

Why do you start with your feet touching?
Is it quiet? Are the seats heated and ventilated? My wife wouldn't be canyon carving or racing around an a track. Are the seats comfortable? Do the seats have good lumbar support? Come on.
Its a very comfortable ride. The ride quality is great soft suspension quite enterior, great seat comfort lumbar support.
Could anyone chime in wether the steering is better or worse than a civic si or accord?
Alex Connor I have a 2017 Sonata 2.0T and I like it a lot. The ride has improved to the point that it's pretty close to an Accord, but I can't say the same for the steering. It's not bad, just not as good as an Accord.

It's a shame it's so ugly and bland.
Another 2018 piece of garbage. The roof are low way to low the car feels a lot smaller than the 2009's. The cars power horrible and the styling is ugly.
