In case you have not yet realized it: Hera, the pilot, is the young Twilek that Omega bonds with early in Bad Batch.
And Chopper was in those episodes too.
And we liked her then too! Wanted her to join the team we remember 😊
28:10 "Chopper's got anxiety"
You could not be more wrong on so many levels, and I CANNOT wait for you to see just how little anxiety and hesitation this droid has 😂
His Ledger is dripping in red! :D
Chopper IS anxiety... for his enemies.
@@tona4x7 Chopper is anxiety for anyone not designated Spector 2 or Spector 7.
In the first episode of The Bad Batch, Kanan was the apprentice who saw his master killed by Order 66, and who Crosshair accused Hunter of not killing.
Can this be classed as spoilers as you don't find out he changed his name til season 4?
Wow that's a big spoiler.. but things do hit different With their watch order
I called BS on that since Caleb Dume has been revealed since the novel released a full six months before the show. And the Kenan, the last Padawan comic series, released during the show’s first and second seasons.
@@swanchamp5136 Kanan's history was revealed in Season 1... At least partially... They have seen Kanan elsewhere in their Star Wars Journey too...
@@js3599 And? Let them find out when they reach the episode.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but the reason so many things look so different, like the wookies, and the lightsabers is because Rebels take a lot of its design and style from early Concept art from the original trilogy.
Specifically the Ralph McQuarrie concept art that was made as part of the design process of A New Hope.
specifically Zeb's race the Lasot are the McQuarrie Wookie art (name given to that race by West End Games) and the Astromech Chopper is very much Ralph's work also
11:11 so funny thing about trying to pretend that Zeb was a Wookie is that Zeb's species, the Lasat, are based on early concept art for Chewbacca. A lot of stuff from landscapes to races to even some droids like Chopper are based on the art of Ralph McQuarrie who was one of the main people for all the concept art for the original trilogy.
That’s so fun 😀
24:55 The Grand Inquisitor is a Pau'an, from the planet Utapau, the planet that Obi-Wan was on during order 66 in Revenge of the Sith. So, that is why his head looks like that, he is not a human. 😅
😎👍🙂
If Zeb sounds familiar, 8:08 that's because it's Steve Blum, well known VA, you may know him for voicing Wolverine(multiple media), Baraka, Sub Zero, Killer Croc(Arkham games), Venom(Marvel Rivals), and Spike (Cowboy Bebop Anime)
they would definitely at least know him as amon (lok)
You actually met the Grand Inquisitor before in the first Barriss Tales of The Empire short during her training
Ah okay. Thanks for the reminder 🙂
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 and you've seen him in Obi-Wan Kenobi show whom the third sister stabbed and was alive at the end.
Man I was starting to doubt you’d watch this 😂. I’m excited this is my personal favourite Star Wars show
same here
Yeah we had hoped to start in January but just fell behind on stuff 🤗
Yeah Rebels! Absolutely love the characters you are meeting and the stories that will be told. Hope you enjoy too!
So far so good 🙂
Star Wars Rebels is a great show💯🔥
I love Star Wars Rebels, it’s one of my fave Star Wars shows so I was super excited to see the notification for this reaction vid.
Yay! 🤩
You're gonna end up loving the crew like family
Can’t wait to fall in love with a new crew 😍
James Arnold Taylor cameoing as Obi-Wan in this series was perfect. Fans always wanted to know what the message warning other survivors to stay away was.
Rebels gave us the full message. ❤
Ah heck yeah! Do you guys have any idea how long I have waited for you to watch Rebels?!
It is without a doubt my FAVORITE Star Wars media, I love the characters. And it has some of the best moments in Star Wars.
Glad we could finally get around to it 🤩
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 You're in for a ride!
Glad to see your starting this show. Probably the best thing to come out of the Disney era of Star Wars
To use the words of count dooku..."i've been looking forward to this"
😈😁
24:20 Chills every time that theme kicks in, no matter where it is
😌
Watched your entire journey of clone wars and I’m prepared and excited for your rebels journey
Yay 😀 🥳
One of the things I love about the show is that it it takes its design inspiration from the concept art of Ralph MacQuarrie who worked on the original trilogy. For instance, the bounty droid that is with Vizago is based on an early design of Macquarrie’s for the IG assassin bounty droid seen in the Empire Strikes Back and the one in The Mandalorian.
A lot of the vehicle designs are based on the original line of Star Wars toys by Kenner. For instance, the wings on the TIE fighters in this show are a little shorter than the ones seen in the movies because that was how the toy TIE fighters were made.
Just some reminders here, because there are many characters you already know from other star wars series. The twilek pilot is Hera, you saw her as a young girl in the Bad Batch. She has grown up. Zeb Orrelios had a cameo in the last season of the Mandalorian. Kanan... I won't tell, but you saw him too. And the grand inquisitor appeared in Kenobi, it's just that they messed up his head. The Rebels' version is the right one. He's from the planet of Utapau, the place where Obiwan defeated Grievous. You could see a few of his race there, in Revenge of the Sith.
"Chopper's got anxiety"
Chopper is a war criminal with the blood of thousands on his claws
My first thoughts about Ezra was that he was an amalgamation of Aladdin (they even call him a street rat) and the Treasure Planet version of Jim Hawkins (a criminally underrated film). But they did a great job fleshing him out; and his growth throughout the series is one of the best parts of this show.
The intro to Ezra is very much the start of Aladdin, reminds me of that song at the start, 'one step ahead of the breadline...'
Hera and Chopper (the droid) were in Bad Batch her and Omega bonded over flying
Kanan you've met as well but not saying anything else
The whole crew are a family Hera (mum) Kanan (dad) ezra, sabine and zeb (children) and chopper (is kind of the crazy uncle)
Rebels is a very good show it's a lot more 'kiddy' but still has its darker moments especially later on.
I look forward to seeing your reactions to this because i was fortunate enough to watch it when it was new so i remember when these 2 episodes came out i was hooked immediately, the villains are also some of the best in all of Star Wars
Crazy uncle haha. We dig that for Chopper 😁
In the timeline this is many years after the obi wan kenobi live action series.. You're gonna love this show
I love that you guys are watching this, loved this show. IMO mandatory to watch before Ahsoka.
We haven’t seen Ahsoka yet so can watch it after this 😀
Man I love Vader’s design in this show, he just looks more menacing to me.
Ah at last.
Welcome to one of the best Star Wars shows ever made, enjoyable for the younger fans and the old fans.
Nice 😁
You've seen Bad Batch, so you've met Hera and Chopper before -- they were in season 1. You've technically met Kanan at least once, maybe a couple of times before as well, but that's a story for another time...
Nice Storyteller Fallout reference there at the end 😜
6:10 me when I miss places my keys
You're in for a real ride.
The series doesn't even really get going yet and you're already on board says a lot to how much you're going to love this series.
We're finally getting started with Star Wars: Rebels! This was the second Star Wars series helmed by Dave Filoni after the success of The Clone Wars, and the first Star Wars media released after Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm. While it got off to a bit of a slow start in my opinion, I think it became one of the best Star Wars projects out there once it found its footing in the later seasons. This series is going to follow the crew of the Ghost, a modified VCX-100 light freighter made by Corellian Engineering Corporation (the same company that made the Millennium Falcon). They are Hera Syndulla (voiced by Vanessa Marshall, a Twi'lek from Ryloth who owns and captains the Ghost (we actually met her back in The Bad Batch if you remember), her droid C1-10P (better known as Chopper, whom we also met in Bad Batch), a C1-series astromech droid made by Industrial Automaton (the company that also makes the R-series droids, including R2-D2), Kanan Jarrus (voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr.), a human Jedi who survived Order 66, Sabine Wren (voiced by Tiya Sicar), a Mandalorian warrior and former Imperial cadet, Garazeb "Zeb" Orrelios (voiced by Steve Blum), a Lasat warrior from the planet Lasan, and the newest edition, Ezra Bridger (voiced by Taylor Gray), a human from the planet Lothal. These first two episodes actually originally aired as an hour long "movie" on October 3, 2014 after 4 shorts that aired in August and September of that year. Well, I think that's enough of an intro, let's move on to the rest of today's fun facts.
As I said above, Zeb is a member of the Lasat species. The appearance of the Lasat was based on concept art by Ralph McQuarrie for what would become Chewbacca, and Rebels was the first appearance of the species. The prologue gives us a great cameo from Darth Vader (voiced, of course, by James Earl Jones) and introduces us to one of our antagonists, the Grand Inquisitor (simply referred to as "The Inquisitor"), a Pau'an from Utapau. You might remember him from both the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and his brief appearance in Tales of the Empire; he is voiced by Jason Isaacs, who you might remember as Lucius Malfoy from Harry Potter. After the prologue, we arrive on the Outer Rim world of Lothal, the main setting for the series and the homeworld of Ezra Bridger, making its debut appearance here. We see Ezra distract two Imperial officers, Commandant Cumberlayne Aresko and Taskmaster Myles Grint (both voiced by David Shaughnessy), by stealing a comlink and falsely claiming an emergency in the town square. They rush over to find no emergency, just Imperial Lieutenant Yogar Lyste (voiced by Liam O'Brien) overseeing the transport of some cargo crates. The Ghost crew appears and plant explosives to distract the Imperials and steal the crates.
After some hijinks and the Rebels escaping, we are introduced to our other main antagonist, Agent Alexsandr Kallus (voiced by David Oyelowo) of the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB), a human from Coruscant. The crime lord the Ghost crew sell the blasters to is named Cikatro Vizago, a Devaronian from their homeworld, Devaron. The droid guard accompanying him is an IG-RM bodyguard and enforcement droid made by Holowan Laboratories, making their first appearance here; these droids are actually based on concept art for IG-88, the droid bounty hunter we first see in The Empire Strikes Back. The Imperial ship the Ghost docks with for the Wookiees before the Star Destroyer shows up is an Imperial Gozanti-class cruiser made by the Corellian Engineering Corporation and Gallofree Yards, Inc., making its first appearance here. The holocron Ezra stole from Kanan contains a message from Obi-Wan Kenobi (voiced here by James Arnold Taylor, who voiced him in The Clone Wars). This message is the same one he mentions leaving at the Jedi Temple when he and Yoda return to Coruscant after Order 66 in Revenge of the Sith. The Wookiees the crew was initially trying to rescue on the Imperial cruiser are located in the spice mines on the planet Kessel. Kessel and its spice mines were first mentioned by C-3P0 all the way back in A New Hope and have made several appearances since then, notably in season 7 of The Clone Wars (during Ahsoka's first run-in with the Martez sisters) and Solo: A Star Wars Story. On Kessel, we see Ezra using an energy slingshot, a unique weapon hardly seen anywhere else in Star Wars; this is its first on-screen appearance, though it did appear in the junior novel "Ezra's Gamble" set and released slightly before the series on August 5, 2014. The ship that picks up the Wookiees from the Ghost is an Auzituck anti-slaver gunship made by Appazanna Engineering Works (a Kashyyyk based starship manufacturer), also making its first appearance.
Well, that's all I've got for today! I'm so glad to see you guys continuing your Star Wars journey; it's been a lot of fun so far and I can't wait to see how you guys like Rebels! See you guys next week for episode 3, "Droids in Distress," and episode 4, "Fighter Flight." 😄
The hairless Wookiee joke was based on the fact that Zeb’s look was based on early concept art for Cheewie way back than.
If you two haven't seen the Ahsoka series yet, I highly recommend watching it right after Rebels. Ahsoka is pretty much Rebels season 5, just live action.
We haven’t seen the series yet. Wanted to avoid any spoilers it might have for Rebels as we heard this ties into that 😅
Yayyy im glad you guy's are doing this series! Especially after the bad batch. 😅😅
Yep. Had a little break and we are ready to dive in again 🤩
There are also a series of Rebel Shorts 3 min episodes each one centered around a different member of the Ghost screw. Machine in The Ghost is probably my favorite of the batch.
I've watched the very first Rebels episodes back in 2014. This premiere was so cool.
8:10 That's Steve Blum he voices a lot of characters. He voiced a Amon from Legend of Korra, Spike from Cowboy Bebop, Green Goblin in Spectacular Spider-Man, Wolverine sometimes, and most of the thugs in the Batman Arkham games! 🙏🏽💪
Amon! 😯
Something unique about Rebels is that each season is twice as good as the last- with many episodes being as great as the best of Clone Wars
A Note about the symbol she paints, the Rebel Alliance as we see it in Star Wars doesn't exactly exist yet.
Well it’s been a while, but this is the series that officially started most of the new lore between the third and fourth movies and into the era of the Mandlorian after Disney acquired Star Wars. Most of the comments will probably help with the series that you already saw, but I’ll just add one thing in.
The dark sider in the final episode of Tale of the Jedi his identity has been confirmed to be the Eleventh Brother of the Inquistors not that long ago. The Grand Inquisitor you’ve already seen a few times now and this was his first appearance and the first Inquisitor of the new Star Wars canon.
Also a heads up there is a series of small shorts connected to Rebels that take places during Season 1. Not much but a fun watch.
Rebels is such a fantastic show. It draws a lot of inspiration from the Star Wars Role Playing Game that was published by West End Games in the 80s and 90s. For a long time, between the release of Return of The Jedi and Timothy Zhan's 'Heir to the empire' (which launched the Extended Universe) that RPG was the only new Star Wars Content being published, and it did a lot of the groundwork for the building blocks of the EU that followed. The Creators of the Show have stated that they took inspiration from the RPG campaigns that they played growing up for the show, and any-one familiar with the game can easily see the elements that they drew on.
The crew of the Ghost is a very typical Star Wars RPG party, and each of the characters can be traced back to one of the templates the game presented as starting points for characters. For fans like me who also played that game, watching Rebels is a little bit like seeing your childhood fantasies brought to life, and it's hugely meaningful for that reason. I hope you enjoy the show, It just gets better from here!
Yay! Finally!! Get ready for all the info dumping!! Hera and Chopper are two characters you have seen before in The Bad Batch, Season 1. The Little Twilek Girl that befriends Omega. Just remember that Rebels came out before the last season of Clone Wars. You guys are in for a ride with this series! Many, many, MANY guest appearances. The music is amazing being that it’s directly from the Star Wars movies. Kanan Jarrus is a very important character but you guys will find out why. Enjoy it!
We really liked her when she was a kid and wanted her to join the team 🙂
Zeb’s voice actor is Steve Blum. Spike in Cowboy Bebop, Mugen in Samurai Champloo, and EVERY storm trooper side character in animated Star Wars shows.
That is why he is familiar.
Oh, and a bunch of 7-11 commercials back in the day.
Stoked for you, I love Rebels.
😎🤘🥳
One of my favorite star wars series! I hope you guys enjoy the journey ❤
Off to a great start 🤩
i really love these cookie crazy kids 🤣
😜
SUBSCRIBED! Not just for Rebels, but because you're giving Rebels the view time each episode requires.
And do not be deceived as you continue watching (and judging on your observations about the writing during your Ep 1 reaction summary, you WON'T be); there are NO "filler" episodes.
Best news I've had all week 🎉🎉🎉
🥳🥳
Oh you guys are in for a ride!
😎🤘🥳
the classic comparison between Chopper and Artoo is that Chopper is a cat and Artoo is a dog.
They are both your companion but one is more snarky and judgmental.
The first season you can definitely feel the more Disney vibe as opposed to Clone Wars and their other shows, since this was the first Star Wars thing Disney made even before they made the sequel trilogy. But as the show goes on it matures and the whole thing is a ton of fun throughout regardless.
😎👍🙂
Fun fact the voice of the Grand Inquisitor at the beginning is the same actor who portrayed Mephisto in Marvel's Midnight suns and one of the watchers in What If?..., but he's more known for his portrayal of Lucius Malfoy from the Harry Potter series.
Ah yes, great as Lucius Malfoy 😈
2 things : the inquisitor is not human so his forehead is fine ^^, he comes from Utapau ( the planet where Obi-Wan kills Grievous in Revenge of the sith), and without spoiling anything, you've already met Kanan (the jedi) and Hera (the green twi'lek pilot) in previous shows, maybe you'll guess on your own 😁
“His forehead is fine.” 😂 we can sleep well now 😜🙂🤗 love that you addressed that for us 😀
I have soooo been waiting for you all to get to rebels. It is my favorite star wars. Chopper is the most awsome war criminal you will ever meet.
😂 Chopper 😍
Aye Lets go Rebels!!!! :D
😎🤘🥳
13:45 Actually Rebels is very close to Firefly tv series in story structure and character's archetypes. At some point they even invited one of actresses from Firefly to voice one of the characters in Rebels.
Your gonna love this show
Rebels fighting against the empire. A jedi in hiding teaching bringing on a new recruit. In a lot of ways Rebels feels more like "Star Wars" than anything in the prequels ever did. You guys are going to have a great journey here. Though a lot of people are unreasonably negative towards newer Star Wars stuff, "Ahsoka" basically picks up as a continuation of this series. Even though it has a lot of references to stuff that happened in Clone Wars and chronologically picks up after Rosario appears as Ahsoka in Mandolorean.
21:18 This is where the fun begins!! 🙏🏽💪
YOU'RE GONNA LOVE THIS SHOW!!!
REBELS (to me) IS JUST AS GOOD AS CLONE WARS
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
IMO, it's better
😎🤘🥳
Zeb "big purple guy" is based on the original concept art for Chewbacca. They've taken that concept art and spun it off into a separate species called the Lasat. No other connection to Wookiees past that, though.
My boy Kanan , you're gonna love him.
The creators of the show compared R2D2 and Chopper as the former being the loyal family dog to the Skywalkers and the latter being the family's a-hole cat to the crew of the Ghost. That's a pretty apt description, IMO.
I came into this show with low expectations.
Being on Disney the first season is geared to younger kids, but as it goes on the show really matured.
Some of the best moments outside of the movies.
the inquisotor is one of the same sepecies obiwan spoke with on utapou
I'm not sure if you knew but just in case there's actually 4 shorts you can watch I think they're usually 2 minutes so you can watch it all in one video it's basically an introduction to each characters
finally gonna love seen your reactions to Rebels
This is a nice surprise! I hope it's fun for everyone, I know it will be for me! Thanks guys
Our pleasure 🥳🥳
Rebels is far and away my wife and I's favorite Star Wars show.
😁🤩
wow, okay, strap in, We can do this again. You guys... you're in for one heck of a ride. By the end this will be the most Star Wars of Star Wars that there is.... to date. Let's do this.
😎🤘😀
oh you're going to love Chopper. chopper is best droid...
I wrote Ezra off as space Aladdin when this first aired, but the show grew on me from there.
the exaggerated proportions in the animation style are almost directly taken from the original Ralph McQuarrie concept art of the Original trilogy, a number of designs from those artworks that didn't make the final cut for the films were brought back in this series. Zeb's design was an early concept for Chewbacca for example.
This was also the first time James Earl Jones had reprised his role as the voice of Darth Vader outside of the films.
Omg I loved this show as a kid, I think it was my first actual Star Wars thing that I watched and was invested into; pay the art style of the hair in this animation no mind though…
YES! So happy you've gotten to Rebels! While Clone Wars has some higher high points, Rebels overall is my favorite Star Wars series. The thing that stands out about this show is that all of the characters are fantastic. You're in for a real treat with this show!
Also, as you'll come to see, R2D2 is very much like a loyal faithful dog of Star Wars, but Chopper is your grumpy sassy cat.
Also the Inquisitor's species is Pau'an. They were seen in Revenge of the Sith on the planet Utapau when Obi Wan fought and defeated General Grievous.
And speaking of Obi Wan in Revenge of the Sith, when he and Yoda went back and fought their way into the Jedi Temple after Order 66, Obi Wan made a message in the Archives for any surviving jedi to stay away from the temple and to go into hiding. It's great that we can finally see that message :)
We heard crazy uncle for chopper but sassy cat 😯 dig that too
Zeb appears in season 3 episode 5 of The Mandalorian, as a cameo. If I'm not mistaken, he is scheduled to appear in upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu film too.
I'm super hyped for you both to be watching Rebels! My favorite Star Wars media and it even has my favorite Star Wars moment. While Ahsoka is my favorite Star Wars character Sabine is my second favorite. Of course I like all the Rebels crew though. I'm sure you're both going to love this show! Welp, time for me to re-patreon to your patreon!
Welcome back 🤗🙂
So, I'm sure you've noticed the different art style compared to Clone Wars. They based a lot of the designs off of Ralph McQuarrie (the original Concept Artist for Star Wars)'s sketches. Zeb and Chopper are actually based off the original design of Chewbacca and R2!
That’s a cool fun fact 😀
it does not seem like you connected the dots, but the young twilek Omega bonded with in the Bad Batch is actually Hera :D
Rebels is my favorite Star Wars animation. After watching Rebels you might want to check out Ahsoka, since it basically continues the story of Rebels.
*I've been looking forward to this.*
1:23 sounds like the imperial march.
3:36 might not remember, but that's the same sound of the guns on Jango Fett's ship in AotC.
Have to bring it up; humans are not "animals". Far from it. Humans are humans.
17:23 that would be the message that Obi-Wan reprogrammed in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant in RotS.
22:38 "kids show" btw, that's what people say this is... 😂😂
The grand inquisitor's head is actually normal-sized for his species.
Smth else to watch in the week😮💨
... was that racist xD Leave the poor inquisitors head alone xD
😬🤗
Poor Jason Isaacs
@@incogni-bro8276 Well he did play a Noted Harry Potter Racist xD

Chopper? Well, just you wait.
Im sure everyone's filling you in on the voice actors, but def enjoyed this series.
Zeb is also Amon (legend of Korra)
Finally getting to the Fast and Furious of Star Wars I see
Cuz it’s all about family❤️❤️❤️
Plant food, we are.
U guys both met Kanan and Hera in Bad Batch as Children… oh and Chopper
No spoilers
@ how is that a spoiler, they seen them in bad batch
@ Any info on Kanan is a spoiler.
Please tell me you took a look at the novel A New Dawn. It’s pretty short and is set 5 years before the show takes place. The Kanan the Last Padawan comic series is set between season 1 episodes 3 and 5.
We did not get to that novel unfortunately 😬🤗
FINALLYY🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
🙂
Lets goooo!
🥳🥳
You guys should watch the shorts it introduces the characters better seriously
That is kind of a terrible analogy, comparing the quote about "If you exist only to save your own life, then your life is worth nothing", to plants existing to feed animals, and animals existing to feed plants. Because even if you exist only for yourself, you might still end up feeding plants, or other animals. That really is not related at all.
Though, if you think about things that way, that you suggested, which is also true, though not a good analogy for the quote, then the absolute worst sin a person could ever do is being buried in a coffin. Because nothing get's any benefit from us in that case. If you compare it again to that quote, then that is basically the worst, and most selfish thing a person could possibly ever do, being buried.
Kanan is the padawan Hunter lets live in the first episode of Bad batch
W
The first season was pretty hit and miss, largely because of the downgrade in quality from Clone Wars, and the lighter, more kid friendly tone it had; this season, that is. But like Clone Wars, it only got better as it progressed; and ultimately proved itself as a worthy follow up.
Did you watch the trailers for this series, they were quite fun.
Never saw them 😯
I knew it was coming eventually, but, sucks that rebels exist
Its a rlly good show.
It's better than Clone Wars lol
Tf you talking about?
@@ReminiscentIndustries good for you if you like this more. It’s not for me, buddy.
