There's an interesting theory that the poison stored in Sinh's belly originates from Nito's "miasma of death and disease" from the war with the Everlasting Dragons.

Also, the Graverobber is a girl, I'm pretty certain she makes the hollow girl noises.
And since we know that, she could just be Saint Serreta.
Serreta becomes undead (maybe Zullie cursed her with that?), Alva goes and tries to find a cure, obviously fails, then she 'dies' and gets buried.
Eventually she manages to get out of her coffin, finds out that Alva is a cheating scumbag, loots his corpse for his stuff, and then joins up with Gravel the Block's ganksquad.

tou hou Which is funny, 'cos when I was recording some footage of an Alva cosplay the other day for reasons, I was using my female character (as I have only one character on the PC version, who happens to be female) and I think I'll be getting a few comments like: "Why is your Alva a girl? are you saying Alva was a girl all along!" style things haha. Kinda like when I had a male Ciaran, oh god.

In German the Graverobbers name is "Betrübte Grabräuerin" which means translated word-to-word "saddened graverobber" (probably a typical translation mistake with the "Saddened"). - But what's interesting are the last letters "in" from "Grabräuberin", which tells that the person is female. (If the graverobber were male, it would be called "Grabräuber", not "Grabräuberin")

So basically, Shulva and its people fell to shit when a crazy blood-drinking knight pokes the butt of a dragon, causing said dragon to violently fart out thousands of year's worth of fart gas. Is that about right?

Velstadt's armor description states "A knight from a faraway land was lured to this accursed land, but forgot even why he came, eventually reduced to a shadow of his former self." Could be he was originally from Shulva, and he left the Sunken King for Vendrick, the way Alonne left the Iron King or Raime left Vendrick.

I like to think that the graverobber's "affliction" is not the undead curse, but that of insatiable greed. So much so that she's perfectly willing to venture into dangerous lands to take what she wants. Perhaps that is why she has the accompaniment of Cerah and Varg. The explorer has the wisdom to help navigate the treacherous domain of Shulva while Varg is a bodyguard of sorts, using his veteran experience in protecting the group.

I have a theory about Velstadt.
I believe the Aegis had a much darker, more important role in the game's story than we think. His purpose in Drangleic and Shulva was to sow chaos and help the children of Manus gather enough power to become his most powerful avatars and bathe the world in Dark.
    Let me explain.
Firstly, when you fight Velstadt in front of the entrance of Vendrick's resting place, he uses Dark incantations to enhance himself. Then, when you kill him, he drops a Dark soul. And thirdly, he was close to both Nashandra and Elana, offspring of Manus.
So, Velstadt's very first role was his arrival into Shulva and becoming the Sunken King's right hand, but ultimately conspiring and working for Elana, yet acting as if he was absolutely (and fanatically) loyal to the monarch. I believe Elana wanted to create a kingdom entirely subjected to the Dark, and thus create a powerful enough army to obliterate any chances of rekindling the First Flame, as well as using the Dragon, Sinh. But then, Ser Yorgh and his Drakeblood Knights arrived, slaughtering the garrison of Shulva and killing the king. When Sinh became the last hope of saving the broken kingdom, he was the very last cog in its annihilation, destroying Elana's plan.
Velstadt had his own intelligence and wisdom about this matter however, and believed Elana wasn't just powerful enough to destroy the First Flame. So, in all honesty, he abandoned her, wondering the lands and searching for another majestic ruler to twist and transform into a servant of the Dark.
Now, the question might be, "Then why Elana can summon him?" Notice how beings of the Dark are sort-of connected and know of each other a lot? What if the servants to the mightiest Dark creatures have pacts and bonds that bounds them together, even though they can be separated? After all, Dark is a perverted, malicious form of power that can undo reality itself. And if Elana is desperate enough and realize the Chosen Undead is too strong, she simply summons all the assistance she can in order to survive.
Then, Drangleic was formed, under the rule of King Vendrick and later, Queen Nashandra. Velstadt knew that Nashandra was someone far more powerful than Elana, so he immediately went to the kingdom and became Vendrick's most trusted knight, but again hiding his true purpose. Working and conspiring together, they slowly wormed the Dark into Drangleic and gaining enough might to annihilate the First Flame. And as they were about to grasp their ultimate prize and win, two characters stopped them and halted their progress considerably.
    Vendrick and Raime.
Raime was a royal bodyguard of the king, but ultimately, he was a patriot, not a boot-licker of a monarch. Realizing what was happening with Vendrick and Nashandra, he knew something had to be done - but alas, he didn't know that Velstadt himself had a hand in this corrupting matter before trying to discuss this issue with him. Using the Dark and ways of persuasive deceit, Velstadt defeated Raime and ensured that the knight was banished before he could influence Vendrick, thus blinding the aristocrat even further.
However, in all these stories, there is a spark of hope in the darkest corners of insanity.
What both Nashandra and Velstadt didn't expect is seeing Vendrick rebelling against this transformation. They wanted him to be the vessel that could open the Throne of Want, but they couldn't do it themselves. When Vendrick refused this to happen and realized what was happening, he sealed the kingdom away when the Giants invaded, and departed to the Undead Crypt, never to be seen again, dragging all of the secrets with him.
Now, this part will be questioned most, so let me answer all the reasonable questions.
Firstly, why did they let him go? As we know, Vendrick was a very powerful king before turning Hollow, and also Undead. I speculate he was too powerful in his heydays to Nashandra and Velstadt, therefore assaulting him would have been suicide to them. And their demise wouldn't help the Dark's quest of extinguishing the Cycle.
Secondly, why is Velstadt guarding Vendrick? I believe that it is so by the command of Nashandra - after all, if the man does not wish to be the opener of Throne of Want for them, it would be best to halt anyone from meeting Vendrick and stopping the Undead adventurers from learning the truth for themselves.
Thirdly, why is Velstadt still there while Vendrick is hollow? Two theories - one, he didn't know Vendrick went hollow, and second, he was there as a test if a Chosen Undead can defeat an ancient Cleric of the Dark. Velstadt is so bound to the force that he is willing to die for it.
Fourth, how could nobody guess this earlier? Who would guess a treachery from a stoic, silent bodyguard who only responds for the king's honour with his very hammer and spells? Who would guess a treachery from somebody who will do ANYTHING for the king? Raime was cast out because he spoke against the authority. Velstadt never did that. A perfect form of acting.
There are also two theories in my mind about Velstadt's ultimate fate. The first I already talked about - him being absolutely loyal to the Dark to the point of death. But what if Nashandra fooled him as well? What if Nashandra sent Velstadt to the crypts to be killed by the Chosen Undead so that the victor garners enough power to open the Throne of Want? What if the very cunning, obedient Cleric himself was stabbed in the back by his female liege?
Anyway, that's my two cents on Velstadt. Thoughts?

    • @thedarkness6256
      @thedarkness6256 9 років тому +4

Firstly, Velstadt resembles a lindelt priest. Secondly, his soul is dark and his miracles are dark because he has been bathing in me for countless years. Raime specialized in dispersing me. When he left there was nothing to keep me from the king and the aegis. His armor was once golden, now bronzed. Plus, if you look close he seems to be immune to the curse as he didn't hollow. Raime saw Vendrick as a powerful figure, he was in awe of his power. When he saw it fading he spoke out. Velstadt, the Royal Aegis, assumed treachery and dealt with it swiftly in such a dire situation called for. Raime was loyal to the powerful father figure, not the man behind it. Velstadt was loyal to the crown, the king. If he truly was an agent of mine, he would've just taken the ring from Vendrick when he hollowed. And brought it straight to Nashandra. Nashandra was the weakest of fragments of Manus, that is why she is easy to beat, that is why she wants the throne. For power, she didn't even think of what she would do with it, she just wanted it. Velstadt is just a higher human. Nothing more than a symbol of loyalty. Vendrick wanted to stay in the Crypt, to keep his ring, the only thing that could open the door to the throne, from the creature of dark. Nashandra had hoped to take the ring and the throne in the chaos that came when the giants invaded. But Vendrick had foreseen this and ushered his greatest and loyalist knights to his side and fled to a place claimed by the followers of Nito. A place where the corrupted form of Nashandra could not hope to go. He chose to be there, he was not tricked.

Nice theory though. Well thought out and clearly expressed. But the lore given proves it wrong. Wish it were true, having an agent like him would be swell!!

  • @Garl_Vinland
    @Garl_Vinland 9 років тому +5

Three interesting points I'd like to bring up.
-Regarding Velstadt being summoned as a defender to Elaana, I read somewhere about a theory that Velstadt originated from Shulva and has some relation with Lindelt (which was confirmed to be the country that either had Shulva as its capital, or later became a country through Shulva's exodus). Not saying that Velstadt is the one being summoned, but perhaps Velstadt's attire is the common ceremonial armour for the King of Shulva's personal guard. (You can see Velstadt's helm piece on statues all over the area. And Vendrick's uniforms commonly take on a pointed, arrowhead look modelled after leeroy's helm from DS I, seen on the royal infantry, Syan knights, Raime etc) Also worth noting that both Paladin Leeroy and the Royal Aegis Velstadt are nods to yours truly, and it could be that From wanted to bring nostalgia by having a Garl Vinland esque enemy type defending a woman who's mired in poison and filth.
-Regarding Sir Yorgh and the Drakeblood Knights, I remember someone pointing out to me that Yorgh's Ring has the Drangleic Crest on it. This could associate this order with Drangleic/the Dragon Riders/the Old Dragon Slayer/the Drake Keepers (also their armour pieces go together nicely). This would also explain the "rivalry between Lindelt and Drangleic". Case and point, they had a clash at Shulva over the slumbering dragon. unfortunately, there are no official texts that link the Drakeblood Knights to Drangleic in the game. Furthermore the crest theory is a little debunked by Alonne captains also wearing the drangleic crest on their paldrons at Iron Keep, which has little association with Drangleic (interestingly enough, the concept art for the Alonne Knight Captains do not feature the Drangleic Crest on their shoulders and simply feature an oriental design. It could be that for gameplay reasons, the studio put Alonne captains in Drangleic castle because they thought it might be too difficult to put bow wielding Dragon Riders in their places, the alleged royal guard of Vendrick. I think it would of been much more lore appropriate to do that then randomly place Alonne captains outside of Iron Keep)
-Regarding The gank squad, and this filters into all my points, I wish the team behind this DLC could of put a *little* more effort in at least giving some lore significance to this battle, and it could of been done as easily as a few equipment and name changes. "The afflicted" Graverobber. Alva was looking to cure Saint Serretta's sickness by any means, wouldn't it be interesting if he became afflicted the same way (the undead curse) and wound up in Shulva. They could of definitely made ancient soldier Varg a reference to Havel's men by as you said Silver, taking away the dragon tooth and giving him some other weapon, instead of retconning the lore by having a random Havel encounter, that's not Havel. They could of gave the archer a more direct link to Mirrah since she's wearing one of the mirrah knight masks (probably should of given him the Mirrah hat, instead of Lucatiel's mask).
T.L.D.R. Likewise the team could of made subtle changes to make their lore very concrete and intricate, just by putting a smidge more work into it. They could of made an original model to the Velstadt summon-that wasn't Velstadt. They could of mentioned that Yorgh and his order hailed from Drangleic on Yorgh's ring. They could of changed around the equipment of the enemy adventurer team to seem more lore appealing than simply a random group of "players" from outside the fourth wall. And this falls along a lot of things in other parts of Dark Souls II. It would be nice to think the company would make these changes for the PS4 release, but I doubt it.

I think Elana poisoned Sinh. The game says that "the dragon purity was restored" - key word here being "restored", as in, "being returned to a previous state". It sounds like he used to NOT be poison, but became that way.

I have always enjoyed the "Deep below the earth civilization/area" theme. I'm no caver nor have much familiarity with them, but aesthetically I just enjoy Izalith, Shulva, and the Shrine of Amana.
And then comes the unique creatures that live within them.
Shrine of Amana I felt could have used more unique monsters and less Arc Drake Paladins (Though Arc Drake set looks insanely good, to me at least). I guess we also got a frog, though it seems if it used its rarer moves more often it would be a pretty good boss. (there is like 4 freaking moves this thing has I only am just finding out about! It can fire water clusters as a ranged, can turn into a jet ski to ram you, has a grab, can use a frog jump to try and body slam you... BUT IT RARELY, IF EVER, USES THEM!)
Izalith doesn't really have any natural "cave beasts", just demons and dragon arses... Oh yeah, and don't forget the most powerful Titanite Demon in the game! But it makes sense Demons live in the Demon Capital.
And Shulva is actually pretty interesting with the rock monsters that had statues put on their backs, the little corrosion bugs, The Imperfect providing a stealth section, supposedly a weird tree that repairs your equipment if you hit it (I never found this, just saw it in one of Vaati's videos a long time ago), and a full Dragon. Not just its ass end!

Mmh, Yorgh and Gough being related maybe, who knows. BUT you do make an interesting point right there. Cause as far as I can tell Yorgh's spear rests firmly pierced through the dragons scales. The size of it is immense so it's obvious Yorgh was not a mere man but perhaps a giant like Gough and the giant blacksmith. (On the notice that Giants as a whole isn't a singular race but a catchphrase for gigantic creatures/men)

    • @SilverMont
      @SilverMont  9 років тому +1

Januk Yeah, there's not really anything to back it up - I just thought that "Yorgh" and "Gough" sounded vaguely alike, and that Yorgh was probably pretty HUGE, judging from the size of his spear. But then, size doesn't seem to mean all that much - look at Vendrick and Velstadt! Also, I made this before we had that Archdrake sect revelation thanks to Scholar!

    • @TheElshagan
      @TheElshagan 9 років тому

Silver Mont True true, haven't been fighting Sinh for a while (hated the fight) so my idea of his size was probably overexaggerated. I do agree if anything Yorgh was probably a "Greater" human such as Vendrick etc. But yeah could of sworn Sinh was larger probably due to fighting Kalameet again in DS1.
Also just saw the link to your illustrator, please please please say you got a shirt with your character on it. :P

Silver Mont I really am annoyed with From's over exaggerated sizes that have been popping up in their souls franchise (Even civilians are huge in bloodborne, be prepared) but I think if you consider that Vendrick made the giant's souls his own, and spread the wealth amongst his subjects, it is possible for Yorgh to be at least Velstadt/Raime size. (The Drake Keeper helm looks great on the Drakeblood Armor set, kinda looks like Kaiser Gough). Non of this of course explains the huge hollows in the DLC, unless simply having lots of souls makes you huge, or you apply the theory that You are a furtive pigmy and everything else is larger then you.

I sort of got a feeling of the grave robber being female from the dynamic of the trio but the armor could just as easily be a forgery, the guy at Majula sells the real one right? The dragon tooth was no unique to Havel, in DS1 the enemy in the undead burg had a dragon s tooth and then you find an other tooth with the rest of the armor in Anor Londo.

+Dantick09 The Grave Robber is def female, she makes the female grunt when hit. And I do agree, if the Dragon Tooth is supposed to be unique... Well, considering you can get two in the SOTFS edition, that's a little silly already, let alone various enemies using it. Armor sets belonging to singular characters also doesn't make total sense either, especially with Alva's armor being something you can buy infinite of if you want.

The Gank Squad is pretty much a "fan" made team with lots of fantasies to go on about.
Graverobber is a female that could have been a Mad Warrior descendant due to the dual berseker blade and stolen the original Alva's armor or maybe she was a simple bandit with mind disease that stole "rare" gear such Alva\Mad warrior's blades.
Varg is mostly just a reference that he could have been a Havel soldier that his last order was to chase dragons or such.
Cerah The Old Explorer might have been a wise former elite Mirrah archer but like Lothian, he got sick of facing humans and limiting himself with basic knowledge and decided to explore this kingdom that worshipped a dragon, proving him a challenge.
I mean, the amount of ideas that you can go is limitless lol

I see the ganksquad as a commentary on the Souls community. The Havel guy represents the mindless drones who just use heavy armour (Havel's specifically) for everything. The Alva wearer represents fashion souls. The one with the mish-mash represents those who try different things.

what about this dragon being the baby dragon in ash lake from the first dark souls? after the daughters of chaos were defeated the poison of blight town began to corrupt ash lake. the dragon, in an effort to keep his home pure the ash lake dragon (Sinh) absorbed the poisonous swamp into himself. the sunken king later found the dragon and erected shulva around him. when yorgh shows up and impales sinh, the dragon in a fit of rage releases all of the poison of blight town onto shulva killing everyone, and contributing to the poison fields in harvest valley.

My theory is Cerrah was an explorer who wanted to see the ruins of the Sunken City for some reason and hired the Graverobber and Varg. The Graverobber had been or claimed to have been and acted as a guide while Varg acted as a bodyguard, his armor for Sinh or any other dragon they found. But their journey was ill fated and they hollowed in the Sunken City due to either bad planning or they got lost.

Vendrick had some buisness in all DLC locations, perhaps seeking the crowns. Maybe Elana just saw, or defeated Velstadt as he was wandering there.
Also, we know that Yorgh is in the final room, as we find his ring on a body there. And I guess his spear is sticking out of Sinh.
Also also, that's just a general thought but I found it interesting that all of the DLC have this raid areas as I call them (cave of the dead, iron passage, frigid outskirts) and did you realize, that all three of them have a...I don't know, special, possibly a unique character-connected loot? There's pharros mask, some fancy flower skirt and a mirrah hat + ring "reminding of humanity" that would actualy suit Lucatiel's brother quite nicely. :)

I've got a theory to why why Elana could summon Velstadt.
What if Elana had some ties to the undead crypt, and could summon its residents to help her? We know that the crypt and the area before it were for people who were bound for death and darkness (according to the Melfanito). The crypt guards even forbid light within their area; light being the enemy of darkness. And reading Velstadt and Raime's item descriptions reveal that the crypt had a corrupting property due to its intense darkness.
One could say that the crypt itself had ties to the Abyss, and Elana being a fragment of Manus could have had a strong bond to an area such as this. And if the crypt did have close relations to the Abyss, we could even see it in the architecture following towards the entrance of the crypt. In the Shrine of Amana location, most of the pillars will have this pattern of ghostly human forms fleeting in diagonal patterns; these structures resemble the portals found near the Pilgrims of Dark Covenant, which had a direct tie towards the Chasm of the Abyss. And lastly, the enemies found in the Shrine of Amana and the Crypt can use spells, faith, pryomancies, and hexes. Usually, being a master of faiths and magics lead towards Hexes, abilities with ties to the Abyss, but mainly the Dark Soul.
So if Elana is summoning Velstadt from the crypt, this theory might make sense of this. It might almost seem like the Blue Sentinels Covenant, except that Elana is able to summon beings consumed by darkness.
I hope this makes some sense, but I'm just sharing this before I go to bed and forget :d

+Mecha Moa I suppose if she's the reincarnation of wrath (was it wrath? Still, interesting to consider.

I really enjoyed shulva, it was my second favorite of the trilogy. Only succeeded by Eleum Loyce because that dlc is MADE of awesome.
For me, I do believe vestalt came from Shulva. with the idea of cycles in mind, his story is not so different then alonne 's in the beginning. A man from a land far away finds a king and assists him. Given vestalt 's history of one of the few clerics to rise to power in Vendrick's reign, and Shulva's history of powerful miracles and clerics, the connections are too tantalizing to ignore.
I believe yorgh died to Singh, upon piercing his chest with his spear, the dragon woke up from his nap and was understandably angry and toasted him. Hence we find the corpse with his ring on it in that boss room. Just like we get the old leo ring from maybe orstien.
The king if shulva... Well. I don't know. I believe there are two corpses in that room right? Perhaps he was praying as you had suggested then yorgh pulled a very familiar move and back stabbed him with his spear. Likewise, maybe he'd forsaken his flesh just as his most devouted had and he fought yorgh, and lost. Or perhaps he met yorgh in single combat and had a dramatic battle to the death. Whatever the case, I believe yorgh dies in Singh's boss room.
I'm surprised you didn't touch upon the lair of the imperfect. Bipedal creatures that breath what appears to be that one miracle the fume sorcerers use. Not only that, but they drop petrified dragon bones. Perhaps Vendrick was not the first man to think about creating his own dragons? Or maybe these creatures are what happens when a dragon so blighted lays eggs? Or maybe it's both. The eggs weren't properly holding the precious life within them so, in an attempt to save the offspring of their God, the priests of Shulva elevated their miracle craft in an attempt to cheat death. Whatever the case, I'm surprised you didn't bring it up.
And as I said on your havel video, Havel was clearly supposed to be the final boss of Dark souls 1, mostly because he's a big dick and a souls game is about getting fucked. This is the retarded faggot spawn of what a real havel boss fight might have been, but it's good enough. It fucks you just fine with three moderately sized dicks. It could have been better if they were all in havels, the dual weilder was using washing poles and ninja flipping, the archer was replaced with a caster and ninja flipping, and regular havel was wearing gowers, and ninja flipping. Obviously his dragon tooth should have lightning, and they all should have been wearing ring of giants +3 because poise means nothing in dark souls 2, but leave it to B team to fuck up dark souls for everyone.
Thanks B team. U fgtz, git gud.

Matthew Broseph I didn't touch on the lair of the imperfect because those guys are pretty much 100% speculation, IIRC. They don't really have any lore surrounding them, seeing as all of their drops are... well, as you said, petrified dragon bones, but they obviously aren't actual dragons.

Well in the old hunters there is a bunch of hunters that come to this place to do experiments on on the townsfolk and kill kos and so later the hunters that destroyed it now guard it but in shulva is about drake blood knights who come to discover the city's technology and kill sinh and similarly when they kill it it realises poison messing up the drakebloods and townsfolk kinda like the curse messed up the townsfolk and hunters there's even a royal lady guarding the final boss because what happened maybe it's not ripped off but I think it's awfully similar

I didn't exactly give the best explanation why I think this to be fair though the message in the dlc is a bit different
