Mediocre movies show you nothing. Good movies show you something. Masterpieces makes you LIVE through something. This movies made me live through plenty of invaluable experiences.
1:40 Little did the boy know, that whenever the bell was rung, there would be no angel coming down. There already was an angel sitting beside him, Kikujiro
I watched this film during my Japanese class in highschool. I could never remember the name, but that song Summer I never forgot. This movie was such a good film and even 20 years later I still think of it and FINALLY found the name of it after all this time when I saw it around 2002. It was a great story and I am still amazed how the film industry as whole changed to now CGI messes with weak plots. I am so glad I found this film again as I have been wanting to watch it again.
The memories of watching this with my ex are so strong that I get very emotional watching this. And yet I can't help myself. A good movie can move you like that I guess
Wtf man its happening to me right now. Really didnt expect it since its been so long. Speaks volumes about the quality of this film and the impression it makes
For me, this memories of watching this with my father before he got very old, and my mother, who got dementia and has lost all her memory and does not remember...but I do...We watched this movie together so many times, just me my mom my dad. We didnt have a lot, but this movie for however long it is, we had that time together to laugh and cry together before life moved on. I miss those days and wont get them back, but just hope the memory always stays.
I kinda figured out during mid way. Like hang on a second the movie is called Kikujiro but the boy’s name is Masao so it has to be the other MC’s name.
I saw this movie and it made me feel very nostalgic about many things, it made me remember something about the innocence of my childhood and the tenderness that it inspires, the values of friendship and how the cruelty of life is perceived through the eyes of an innocent child, he may seem silly and lazy to some but they do not know the point of view how the Japanese see things, especially in movies, just like you don't have to be Japanese for what they want to imply since all humans are different but also the same in many things if it left me a depression, although it is a wonderful movie.
I seen this 20-22 years ago when I was 9 with my Dad(on film4) and couldn't find it ever, funnily enough I watched "parasite" and it came to me (a rough spelling) and found it god i cant wait to watch this with my kid
This spoil the end when your learn that the movie was about the adult and not the little kid when the kid ask to the man what is name is and that he answer "Kikujiro".
This film was dubbed in Tamil movie and the result is stunning Oscar winning film lift time favorite..director and actor Mr. Mission done outstanding job ❤
I watched it it with school on release, didnt get that it was about the old man tho, i was 10. This is the best introduction to takeshi kitano you can think of...
Has anyone realized that the moto bikers of this movie wear nazi helmets with swastikas ? Not kidding : in the following clip, you can see one of the hemlets hanging in the bike at minut 2:54 : ua-cam.com/video/JnWA8k8Z2RM/v-deo.htmlsi=H88ujafGCkp7LbqH&t=174

God, I love this movie so much. It was my first exposure to Kitano. He's one of my inspirations to become a filmmaker.
Hey man, can you tell me where I can watch this movie with English subtitles?

Saw your comment on the other trailer, seems like you still miss Elizabeth a lot. This movie (and soundtrack) are indeed super emotional.

This film literally broke it watching it for the first time back in 2012 - it still packs a major punch to the gut to this very day.
it's like other Japanese classic masterpiece ,a bit slow long tale but in the end it will make up with a smile and a warm felling.
Just seen it for the first time. Loved it!
1:30 gets me every time. I know what's coming, yet the knowledge never dulls the impact of that scene. Heart-breakingly poignant.
Every time i saw this scene i cry loud
I love this movie and today I received the bell that I will put on my motorcycle hoping it doesn't get stolen.
Lovely how one of the movie's big plot reveals are given out so casually at 0:37...

More Americans need to watch this movie. It's so happy and sad, and a lot of shit that happens in it would resonate with a lot of Americans.
