The large gap under the stall doors is for if a child gets locked in or someone in the stall is having a medical emergency. Some of them go overboard though.

yea the large gaps at the bottom is no prob, like you said it could facilitate someone outside being able to go in and help someone in an emergency. but what's insane is having vertical gaps that serve no purpose other than make you feel uncomfortable since they are eye level lol.

The gaps in bathroom stalls are for many reasons. Others mentioned medical emergencies and if kids get locked in, but there's more. Less privacy discourages drug use, sex, and vandalism. My friend used to work at a grocery store, and they put blue lightbulbs in the bathroom because it makes it harder for people to see their veins.

There were actually two big pushes by the government to change the imperial system to metric in the US, but both of them failed. People were too confused and just kept asking the measurements to be translated back into something they could understand. In the end, the government kind of gave up.

We use American measurements for most day to day things like food, gas etc..BUT we also use the metric system in the US. Everyone learns the universal metric system in grade school and if you have a job related to Science or Healthcare you must use the universal metric system. For example your Tylenol may be a 500 mg tablet, etc. 😊 So most of us know how to do the conversions pretty easily even if its just an estimate.

Regarding the red cup I did an internet search & here is what I found. Regarding bathroom stalls, the gap is very uncomfortable. There are a few places, like Bucky’s that have nicely enclosed stalls. Also, regarding peanut butter; either one loves it or does not. I’m allergic to the stuff so I stay far away from it.
The red Solo cup has many meanings, including:
    Symbol of celebration
Red cups are a symbol of a fun, relaxed environment, and a chance to spend time with friends.
    Cultural icon
The red cup is a recognizable symbol of communal experiences and shared memories.
    Responsible alcohol consumption
The lines on the cup can be used to approximate standard alcoholic beverage servings.
    Secure grip
The lines can be used for a more secure grip when grilling.
    Stacking
The lines allow younger fans to stack and unstack cups without them sticking together.
    Kid-friendly
The lines can be used for fun, kid-friendly drinks like juice, chocolate syrup, and Shirley Temples.
The red plastic cup is often used in American college and university games such as beer pong and flip cup. The cup was immortalized in the 2011 country music song "Red Solo Cup" by Toby

The large gap in bathroom stalls is okay for safety. Its under the door so one would have to do the most to look at you. But the side and door gaps are ridiculously large in some places! Even the urinals have nonsensical dividers because some have no divider, some have short ones where anyone of about average height, can look over and down at you. Now because of that, bathroom stalls are always super messy from being used for #1 in mens rooms. American public bathrooms tend to suck. Although, the family/handicap ones where its a personal bathroom.. Those are always private and clean.

I originally came from Germany where the metric system was used and in the 70's we moved to Canada, so I had to learn the imperial system. Although, while still in High School, we changed to the metric system in Canada. The only thing that to me still makes no sense at all is that lots of places still use pounds which only converts to 454 grams, so not at all metric, since the metric system only works in 10's, 100's & 1000's. So prices are given by the kilo or by the pound. The informal term metric pound is for half a kilogram and should be 500 grams and not 454 grams.

We actually started to convert to the Metric system in the late 70s, but like a lot of things in the US, it got political, so it stopped. There are people in the US that are still militant about being anti-metric for again political reasons, so idiotic. It's just stupid, now instead of one set of tools, we have to buy both SAE and Metric, because both are used. I'm sure the tools manufacturers love it, so they can sell you more tools, but the consumer is screwed. So much for saving money by not converting. Metric is the easier system, it's idiotic that we still use imperial measurement, especially when the rest of the world uses it, except for the UK. Which is even MORE idiotic, because even though both are "imperial" and use the same name (like miles), the measurements are actually different. A car in the UK gets more miles per gallon than a US car, not because the car is any better, but the measurement is different.

There are gaps in public bathroom stalls & doors because many of the stalls are not custom-made, they are usually pre-fab door, wall and frame "systems" and if not measured or installed correctly then gaps are the result. They are very inexpensive compared to custom-made stalls, and faster and easier to install. Large gaps at the bottom and shorter height of doors and walls means less materials costs. Everyone hates the gaps (especially women) but there's nothing to be done about it.

The issue is that at most restaurants, the servers get paid much less than minimum wage, and rely on tips to make their money. I always tip in restaurants, and for services such as getting my nails done, my hair, valet parking, etc. If you don’t, people think you’re rude. I don’t tip, however, at places where I walk up to the counter to order and take my own food to my table and throw my own trash away.

Crunchy, extra crunchy, creamy...honey roasted .I love them all. You get used to the gaps in the bathroom stalls. Most people here don't like them. Red solo cups are just an easy go to for parties, get togethers, barbeques, children's parties. I'd rather clean those up than styrofoam cups.. American here, there isn't a specific reason why the solo cups are red. But in America, red is known as a bold, statement making, power color. Red also elicits a chemical reaction in the brain to make you hungry or thirsty. That's why you see so many fast food restaurants using the color red as well as yellow(for the same reason). So that could have been the reason for the red as well. These days, kids use solo cups because you can't tell what's inside the cup because of the high opacity of the red. I assume there are similar strategies for college students getting away with alcohol using a colored water bottle instead of a clear one.

The only time we use the metric system is in science, track and field, and the medical field. ***SIDE NOTE *** I love Tim Hortons. Where I live at in the US, Tim Hortons is VERY popular and so is hockey (like Canada) and Football.

The gaps are definitely for emergencies and crime prevention. But it does not always work. I used to have a gas station (or petrol, however it is referred to) and there were multiple instances where myself or my employees would go to clean and would find needles in the diaper changing station, behind the toilet, under the seat. It was almost like a horrible game of spot what does not belong or something. 😅

I also think the whole small talk culture in the US is hilarious, cause if you'd ask someone "How are you?" in my country they'll definitely start telling you all about their personal life. We don't usually ask anything here without actually wanting to know the answer, so I was really struggling while I lived in the US...

In West Virginia, it's very rude to interrupt an elderly person even if it means waiting 10 minutes for the conversation to end, so you can get help from a store clerk. We learned that the hard way. If a person with gray hair wants to talk, people listen or they get nasty looks from everyone.

The red plastic cup is CHEAP, that's the only reason. It's cheap and easy to find any where. No deep meaning. And at this point so many people are used to seeing it they just gravitate towards it. As for the gap in the bathroom door - no, I don't like it and don't know anyone who does. It makes no sense. I just figured it's because of cost saving efforts they use less material. Everything boils back to money here. It's sad to say but it's true. Dig far enough and you'll find money is the reason.

I fly my American flag every day and have for decades. For me it’s not about “This is America” or “This is still America” because of our immigrants, it’s in honor of all Americans who have died in combat around the world under that flag. Sure, I’m absolutely proud that I am American but that’s not why I fly my flag.

    1. No we don't put peanut butter on everything. We barely use it anymore except for peanut butter and jelly. Maybe in the 1980's but in 2024 nope.
    2. Small talk is just being friendly, so they know you are not rude. Basically, to let them know you are aware of them, but I personally hate small talk but is very necessary in many situations.
    3. Flags - nope don't see them everywhere just some places. Only house you see them on are usually retired military or someone with a member in the military.
    4. Red solo cups, or party cups are for alcohol. The bottom line is for a shot of liquor (1 ounce/29ml), the middle line is a serving of wine (5 ounces/147 ml), and the top line is the right amount of beer (12 ounces/354ml). They are red just because that is how the company made them, no meaning.
    5. Oddly we only use imperial system for very few things like measuring items, speed limits and some liquids (our sodas are in liter bottles). We don't even use miles for how far something is but instead tell you how long it will take to get there (store is 45 minutes away). We use metric for science, math, weather, medications/medical, all trade and commerce.
    6. Bathroom stall doors are up so you can see if someone is on the floor in need of help, or see feet if someone is in there. HOWEVER, they are only suppose to be, per building code regulations, a 12 inches (30.4 cm) gap from ground.

They are plastic drinking cups and they come in blue, yellow, green, when you have a gathering or party they buy them at the store. It all depends on what is available. All this stuff is goofy, and not true. I think you could've done better on picking out things in America... things are different in the south, north, east, west, mid west, etc. None of this is valid.
