I really love the look of the c70, unfortunately you just don’t see a lot of people using it in their republic fleets. I surely hope the republic one day gets more expansions that can broaden their play style so they’re not forced to do SPHAT heavy squadrons all the time.
I've been toying with a few Consulars, a Pelta with Projection Experts, and an Acclamator with Implacable in an Obi-Wan list where almost all of them have Expert Shields Techs. Haven't tried it yet, but it's on my list.
I almost forgot about this ship my friend runs 3 of these in a build and they can do some damage also love the armada vids also keep up the amazing work.
Swift Return is the 2nd strongest title in the game IMO (behind Jaina's). Brunson was strong as heck because her range meant she almost always got to trigger. Swift Return has the same range so we know you almost always get to trigger Swift Return. Now let's see how good of an ability it is... nav teams a 4pt upgrade has the same ability but for nav tokens. That means Swift Return gets not only a 1pt discount but essentially a free nav token each time you use it. There is little opportunity cost as well since you can still put Nav Teams on Swift Return. Mix in a Nav Dial and you can get +3 yaw. At speed 4, that's 135 degrees and puts you from flyby to rear arc super easily. Obviously that's not how you'd usually build it but it's possible and is a lot of fun. Swift Return really just means you can take CF once you're in range non-stop.
I've been building large fleets of small ships so they can push bomber squads. I dislike red dice for the high chance of coming up blank so I'm going to experiment with a couple of these in my next build for the hit and run capability.
The thing people always seem to gloss over with the Consular is that it's the only speed-4 ship that natively gets a distance-1 yaw click at every speed. It can get in and out of some danger in ways even the CR90 can't. For the Armed Cruiser I feel like its closest analogue is the Hammerhead Torpedo. There's plenty to make the Hammerhead compelling under the right commander, but overall I feel like the AC has way more going for it at just 1 point more. Meanwhile the C70 to me really feels like just a lesser CR90A. But with Zak and a double arc, it can deliver some serious punch... but like not as much as a Mar Tuuk Harcell, a Romodi Arquitens, or an Ackbar CR90, so kind of a moot point IMO. Which is really more a weakness of GAR as a faction than the C70 as a ship. The true strength of GAR as a faction is with SPHATs and with heavy squads, and I think the Armed Cruiser supports both of those strats better than the more expensive C70 does.
From a Lore point of view the consular-class armed cruiser is a bit weird. It sounds like what the Charger C70 is supposed to be, a combat refit of the republics existing stock of Consulars. There's no way that the C70 is a purpose built warship based on the Consular hull. Because Why?! If you build a warship from scratch you aren't going to use a rather unsuitable hull. You are going only use that if you already have it lying around. Maybe the base Consular could have been an unarmed or barely armed thing with Radiant VII already built in or several officer (or a single fleet command?) but no weapon slots? It certainly has that Salon Pod that can be either used as a command center or (fleet) officers station.

Seeing this ship in PM was such a treat. It had an old feel, worn and almost archaic design. So cool.

I love the C70 with Zak and LTT. Double arc can get 7 dice with con fire.

I use them two ways. Cheap with external racks. Or I stick my commander on a radiant 7 and keep it safe in the back.
I usually play a few big ships. I need to expand a bit and learn how to really use smaller faster ships to greater effect.

Armada needs the twins from that one episode of Star Wars: Visions. Mega-lightsabers in space. How hard would that rule?

One of the really cool designed ships from Star Wars. But for now I'll stay with my Empire :D
