Liston is a slugger with great boxing fundamentals and jab. The problem with most boxing fans is that they tend to stereotype sluggers/brawlers as slow hard hitting fighters who have no footwork and ring IQ. Roberto Duran, who is arguably the greatest brawler p4p, has excellent ring craft and defense. Naserm Hamed and Deontay Wilder are sluggers with incredible hand speed. Max Schmelling and Vitali Klitschko are sluggers who have great ring iq and counter-punching skills. George Foreman, who is arguably the pen-ultimate slugger, is capable of cutting ring off and working around his jab.
Hmm, only Liston and Foreman were sluggers here. Dempsey and Marciano are swarmers, though sometimes they fight like sluggers. Joe Louis on the other hand is a boxer-puncher.
@@mocro4life5713 Liston was a technical brawler. Unlike Lewis, he was more willing to engage in inside fighting. This makes sense since Lewis has a bit of a suspect chin.
Swarmers, brawlers and boxer-punchers are often knockout artists in boxing.
And out-boxers
Should’ve included Stanley Ketchel. People don’t talk about him enough. Even as a middleweight, Ketchel had enough power to knock down Jack Johnson.
Liston was actually a pretty good boxer. Had a very good jab. Just because someone hits hard does not mean they are a slugger

Sluggers and hard punchers are two different things, Ray Mercer and George Chuvalo is prime example of a slugger and not a hard puncher.
