This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
I owe a debt of gratitude to my Tabla Gurus, Late Sri G Laxmiah, Ustad Shabbir Nisar, and Sri Rajendra Nakod, and many other great Masters of Tabla who have inspired and taught me along the way. None of this would be possible without them.
Itni great teaching phli bar dekhi .... Jiyoo sir ji koti pranam ❤
You are most welcome. Cheers.
Kyaaa baat kyaa baat.... So genuine knowledge!!!
Thx. Happy learning.
Guruji pranaam itne acche se aj tak kisi ne nhi bataya thanku so much pranaam
You are most welcome. Glad these lessons are useful for you.
Please upload yet another best series of "laggi" that may useful for bhajani theka !
I have received numerous requests for this and multiple other things (Keharwa, Dadra, accompaniment tips, Riyaaz tips etc etc etc). As mentioned before in several comments, my current focus is to complete this series of 50 Lessons that includes core material from the classical realm: Kayda, Rela, Peshkar, Tukda, Tihaai and Chakradaar.
In the future I may well do one on Laggis alone but until this series is fully done, I do not have the time to do anything else. It takes an enormous amount of time to put these lessons up with the kind of detail I'm including. So please bear with me and try and enjoy and learn these lessons (which too I'm doing in my spare time, so you can imagine).
I'll be putting up the next ones shortly. Thanks for your feedback.
Pavan
Lessons 15, 16 and 17 are on Tisra Jati Kaydas. This is the first one of them. The next two lessons will also have Tisra Jati Kaydas.
Pavan
Thank You sir.
the beauty of this kaida is that same kaida when played in chaturas jati then it goes in ektaal...
gena tit gena dhage dhina gina dhatir kitdha gena dhage tina kina....
Yes, and that is true of all Tisra Jati Kaydas in Teen Taal. All of them can be played as Chatusra Jati Kaydas in Ek Taal. This is because 8 x 1.5 = 12 or alternatively 8 x 3 = 24. So all Adi Laya (1.5x or 3x speed) Kaydas in Teen Taal provide ready material to play in Ek Taal. Nice observation.
Pavan
Thanks sir ji ❤❤❤

Hope this helps. Lessons 16 and 17 are coming next to youtube.
Pavan
Laggis and Ladis etc will be covered in another series in the future. The current series is on classical repertoire only. The semi-classical and lighter stuff will have to be later.
Pavan
thanks sir, may you be happy and long live
very nice lessons sir and very helpful, thank you so much, plz give lessons on teen taal parans, mukhra, tukra..
Thanks for the kind words. Glad you like them. As I have explained before in my comments earlier, Lessons 1 - 26 are all about Kaydas, Relas and Peshkars. Lessons 27 - 50 are all about Tukda, Chakkardar including Dupalli and Tipalli. You will have to bear with me as I completed Lessons 24-26 in the near future. Lesson 24 should be coming soon. It will be the last of the Relas followed by Lesson 25 and 26 which will both be beginner's Peshkars.

first of all thank you sir!
I started learning tabla from your lessons.
and the question is koun si taal pe lehra bajega is kayde pe ?
You are most welcome. Glad you find the lessons useful. All the compositions I have posted are for Teen Taal - so all leharas played in the lessons are in Teen Taal.
Pavan
Dear Dr. A. Pavan, after a too long interruption of my tabla practice I'm getting my finger moving again with the this tistra Jati Kayda :-). Thank you so much for sharing the beautiful poetry of tabla and so many compositions! But I have a question: Should I practice the tisra jati kayda with a eight beat lehera? Or with a sixteen beat lehera? Thank you very much in advance for your answer, Alfonso
Wonderful. Keep it up. Happy learning. Use Teen Taal Lehara only (16 beats).
16 beats. However, each section of 4 beats will now transform into a 3+3 (6 beats) and that's why it's called Tishra kayda. Originally played in ektaal lehra and in Teentaal you can modulate this into tishra chalan
thanku very much g..
You are very welcome.
Pavan
I was looking for the tisra jaati kaayda qnd found on exactly my guru taught me. Btw ,what is the lehra and the tempo of the lehra which is used
Try this Kayda in the tempo of 88 to 100 bpm if you can. That's where it sounds good. I cannot recall exactly what tempo I have in the lesson. But pick one where you can comfortably play. For Lehara try Lehara Studio Pro for Android or iOS.
❤️❤️❤️🙏
Thx.
Dear sir.. i i have a request for you .. could you upload some beautiful lehras for practicing
your kaydas
Have you tried Lehara Studioo Pro? It is not free, but is a great app - has real-life sounding Leharas on Sarangi, Santoor, Harmonium and Sitar in multiple Talas and a range of tempos (selectable by the user).
See this link:
www.lehrastudio.com/
Disclaimer: I have no business association with this app - just another user who has recently started using it and am happy with it.
There are multiple other apps for the iOS and Android platforms. Just do a simple search on Lehara Apps and you will see a couple of free ones. Easy Lehara & Lehara Box come to mind. There may be others. The Leharas you hear on my lessons are played on the NAGMA Lehara Machine (google it to see it).
Hope this helps.

This Tisra jati kayda can be used in Ektaal also
Yes, indeed.
The links for viewing the notes have been blocked. Is there another way to access them?
i'll fix them shortly.
tej singh g hav taught same kaida in dadra taa how sir...?
Scroll down below to read one of my first comments on this topic. Someone else had pointed out that this can also be played in Ek Tala which is true. Anything that can be played in Ek Tala is naturally a fit in Dadra Tala. Technically, "lighter" Talas like Dadra and Keharwa do not have Kaydas. Anything that can be played in Ek Tala can be played in Dadra as well (since it is one half of the length of Ek Tala) and likewise for Keharwa and Teen Tala.
Hope you know the difference between Tisra Jati (meaning 3s overlaid on the pulse) and Chatusra Jati (meaning 4s overlaid on the pulse).
Here is the old comment - hopefully this explains:
Yes, and that is true of all Tisra Jati Kaydas in Teen Taal. All of them can be played as Chatusra Jati Kaydas in Ek Taal. This is because 8 x 1.5 = 12 or alternatively 8 x 3 = 24. So all Adi Laya (1.5x or 3x speed) Kaydas in Teen Taal provide ready material to play in Ek Taal. Nice observation.
Pavan
can u make lessons on dadra n keherva taals sir ...?
See my response above and also earlier to some folks who have been asking for the lighter material on Dadra, Keharwa etc. That will have to be a future project once I get through the current series and have all 50 lessons posted.
Pavan
thank you sir ji jhaptal bhi batana sir ji
You're welcome. Jhap Taal - later. First I have to upload 50 for Teen Taal.
Pavan
Sir I am a beginner and I don't understand what is tisra jati or misra jati can u tell me what they mean ?
A quick google search can clear it for you. Tisar means 3 beats superimposed on 1 pulse. Mishra means 7 on 1.
Sir....Can tisra jati kaidas be used also as Dadra taal kaidas...
Tisra Jati Kaydas superimpose 3 notes (syllables or bols) on each pulse so effectively you are playing 8 x 3 = 24 bols in each half of Teen Taal (or 48, depending on the relative tempo). So the same Kayda can be readily played in Ek Taal (of 12 beats). We don't normally play Kaydas in Dadra Taal (or for that matter, in Keharwa Taal) as they are considered Talas for lighter music. So, to answer your question, any Tisra Jati Kayda can be easily played in Ek Taal as a Chatusra Jati (2 or 4 on each pulse) Kayda.
Happy playing.
Pavan
@@tabaliya Thank you so much Pavan Sir.....
Sir jati kya hoti hai koi expalin Kar Sakta hai ya koi video ho to link dijiye
Each lesson has a brief explanation of what the jaati means.
