Man, if he is alive and out there, anybody that isn’t aware of this case could’ve bumped into this guy or casually talked to him and just thought, “What a sweet old man.” Not an ounce of knowledge that he’s a murderer. Gives me the heebie jeebies.

lol this. My mom always acts like every elderly person is just a sweet old man/woman, and I'm over here like mom, you have literally know idea who they could have been in their life. Rapist, murderer, pedo. You have no idea! She's also a bit too friendly with the homeless, I've been attacked before so it really makes me nervous how overly trusting she is at times.

How long had he lived there? Surely as a ski instructor he knew about the mountain lions, bears, poisonous snake maybe wolves or coyotes and NOT to bushwhack. I think most missing people go off trail, get turned around, and never find their way out. Even the most seasoned hikers have been found 10 ft. off trail or a matter of half a mile from a river. I used to hike in the Ozark Mountains, which runs halfway up the central part of America. We went off trail only once and even tied ribbons yo mark the way back. What a joke! Everything looks different coming back and the only way that could’ve worked is if I’d put ribbons every three feet. We only walked about five minutes off but it took hours to find the trail. So you can imagine how militant I am about staying on trail no matter what cool thing I want to go explore. I think that happened to your friend. Also, it’s too easy to get lost if you’re still hiking after 5:00 pm. The trees block all sunlight and it suddenly goes dark and cold. Definitely one of these happened to Mike. He doesn’t seem like the kind of man who could survive in the mountains for five years. Hopefully a mountain lion got him. 🇺🇸 🇮🇪 ❤️🤟🏻

This reminded me of the time I went to surprise a boyfriend, something I had never done before and found his house lit up like a Christmas tree and surrounded by cars - he was having a party. A party I knew nothing about. Turns out he was there with his future fiancé. By the way, their marriage didn't last, she probably got the same sort of surprise one day. My step sister was married with three children when she found out her husband had another house, another woman and a daughter with her. This sort of thing happens more often than we think.

After my mom decided to divorce him he killed himself. So much betrayal and so many broken hearts. And I’ll always still want my dad. It turned out he had another life with 2 children and neither knew about the other. It He passed away from a heart attack, and it was only at the funeral that these two women learned the truth. When Covid hit, my husband "had to move in" with his elderly father (who was 94 and honestly needed home help). Actually, the "moving in" part was more my idea, as between work, getting his dad breakfast and then getting him dinner every day, we barely saw each other for any quality time anyway...he would get home at about 9 pm and fall asleep in a chair only to rise again at 6 to drive back to his father's to provide the requisite breakfast sandwich. At some point, this turned into his opportunity to start sleeping with the slut in his garage band. I only found out by accident after it had been going on for about 2 years (of course, since he still denied everything, I have no idea when it really started). I wonder what he has told the slut ?

I suspect he was the beneficiary of a life insurance policy in his wife's name and his plan was for her to have an "accident" before she moved to the new house but then she messed it up when she made the surprise visit and he panicked.
I also suspect it's likely he'd already left a second car at the park so he could make an escape as soon as he abandoned his wife's car. He would have known it would take authorities a long time to search the park and that they'd probably eventually just assume he's dead and been eaten by the wild animals.

Seems pretty reasonable to assume that his plan was probably to kill his wife, at some point, before they reached the date that they planned on moving into the new house together. But, for whatever reason, he was struggling with the process and kept putting it off until... eventually... it was too late... and she surprised him by showing up at the property completely unexpectedly. So, ultimately, his plan to try and get away with one murder while sailing off into the sunset with his new family instantly and inconveniently morphed into murdering both his wife and his new family and sailing off into the sunset... alone... as a wanted psychopathic fugitive.
You know when parents teach their children that one lie will turn into many lies until you're inevitably buried in so many lies that it's impossible to lie your way out? This feels like a prime example of that lesson.

My gut says he was going to kill his current wife to live with the girlfriend. Notice nobody asked about her being missing for the 10 days.
Her showing up before he could do it, put him in a spot and he most likely felt he needed to kill them all.

For whatever reason, guys who lie about their profession always choose doctor, surgeon, cop, or pilot. They have the "WOW!" factor and the automatic trust from the women they speak with, and they have the built-in excuse for their sometimes long absences.

That or, like you said, he left the park and is living another life. He could've easily staged another vehicle somewhere in the park that no one knew about and that's what he left in so no one has a clue what to look for.
