skip the packing cubes, use gallon zipper ziplocs, they work like compression sacks and see thru. We also carry clothes/socks/underwear we are about to throw away when air traveling. Always great to just dump it out at the hotel when you are done, no need to do laundry when you come back nor do you need to make space for souvenir. Less pockets the better, use every space
Bags with rear facing zippers are a security hazard, particularly in crowded cities. Be aware of your surroundings.

I like John Candy’s approach to luggage in “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” (which was much on my mind during the recent travel news, with people trying to find alternative means to get home).
Before I retired When I would fly for work. I would always carry on. Let me say there is an art to flying with one bag. Let me say the bag I used and continue to use is about half the size of the one you have. It’s called the western Flier by Tom Bhin. Red Oxx also make a similar bag called the mini boss. I may carry a personal bag with a small camera kit. Like I said there’s an art to traveling this way and packing. Search one bag travel. There’s several sites that have a lot of info.
I spent two weeks in Portugal and I found my rolling bag worked fine for me. As an aside, I'm 67 and I would much rather roll a bag than wear it on my back up and down the hills in Lisbon. They do have sidewalks, small, but they have them so you don't really have to roll over cobbled streets that much. I'm looking forward to your videos of your upcoming trip! Happy Travels!
Took a 35L Cotopaxi to Europe for 14 days. I love to overpack so it was a challenge, and I stressed over my choices of what to bring for way too long. But it was worth it and never felt I should have brought more. Even brought some things I never used.
I went to Europe for 10 days with a bag smaller than this. I was glad I didn’t need to worry about my luggage getting lost by the airline 😊
I have the PeakDesign Travel Backpack (the biggest one) and it’s well worth the money. I travel with it everywhere, it can be “compressed”, expanded, the shoulders can be hidden…big recommendation
Wow. You pack light. I'm an old guy, so I'd much rather roll my carry-on, than actually have to "carry" it. That does seem like a nice bag, though it'd looks to be on the somewhat larger side.
Some of these kinds of bags have wheels built in with an extending handle as well. I have one bought before the Pandemic.
I have used the Overhaul 40 v2 backpack by The North Face for many years. It has a separate full-height fold out area at the back (for computer/ipad), separate dirty laundry/shoe pouch at the bottom, and a set set of pockets inside the front full-height flap with another zipper pouch on the outside of that for passport, wallet, etc. The main section is also expandable if you really need more space, though I normally don't use that. I've carried a 15.5" laptop (with powerblock and mouse), two iPads, multiple USB chargers, mini tripod, DJI Osmos gimbal, extra shoes, clothes, and sometimes the drone. With access to laundry facilities, it was great for a month on the road. So far, it has not been a problem on any of the airlines I've flow, including some of the lower cost ones in Europe. I really like this bag and it has held up well.

Many years ago when my niece was still a young girl, I said to her, you know, for many years we carried luggage when we travelled, bags didn't have wheels. She gave me a look that said, in that moment, she had realized that adults weren't nearly as smart as she thought they were. I'm with her. My photo gear goes into a bag or bags which go into a hard sided suitcase which I roll on board the plane. But, go with whatever works for you.
I have a 40 L carry on pack that allows the back straps to be hidden in a pocket if you really want a suitcase look. Also, some airlines don't like straps in their automated equipment. The last time i ran into this they had plastic tubs to put packs in but for me it is just as easy to fold the strap into their pocket.
Also, remember this sort of pack is a compromise. The straps are minimalist for getting around the airport, etc. They are not designed for long distance hiking.

Perhaps I'm technically disinclined, but I'm having trouble finding just the right app to use with my iPad Air (relatively new, with USB-C connection, running IOS 16.2) and my Fujifilm X-T5. My goal is wired-tethering so I can see the images nice and large, and if a client is involved, they can review images and make "selects" right on the spot
I tried Cascable, but it seemed to lack support for Fujifilm cameras -- specifically the X-T5. I didn't have luck with Capture One (based on the free version available with purchase of the X-T5). It doesn't look like Adobe Lightroom Mobile allows me to do this either. And the Fujifilm Camera Remote App doesn't have much in the way of features.
I'm not asking you to trouble-shoot my problems. I'm just suggesting a topic for an upcoming video "Tethering your Fujifilm camera to an iPad" ... or something like that. Thanks again for all the great videos. I've watched a ton of them!

This is the way to go. I will not check luggage and I've been using an ebags Mother Load travel backpack for years. The straps hide away and can be deployed if needed. Most recently, I took it on a month-long trip to France. Mine is the smaller version and it held my Manfrotto Be-Free travel tripod with plenty of room for my clothes and other stuff. I have learned to travel light, washing out stuff as needed. I would rather do that and not have to wait for my luggage or run the risk of losing it. For me the big problem is the weight limits that are enforced by many non-U.S. carriers. A big reason why I now travel with a Surface Pro rather than a laptop and expect to move from Canon to a Fuji XT5 before my next trip. My camera bag, which is small and qualifies as my "personal item", is still way too heavy and every ounce counts.
I converted a backpack into a camera bag by using Lowepro creator boxes. I get a full size camera, three lenses, X100V, ipad, and extra batteries and cables and pulled it off as a backpack. But yeah, a carry-on style like this one is a better idea.
With weight limits on carry-on, I've overloaded the camera backpack and struggled to make it look like an easy load. Also good for long treks, especially if carrying enough water (which fortunately gets lighter as you go).
Nice pack! And quite affordable too! I have AER Travel Pack that I use for few years already. For me the biggest challenge is the weight limitations at airports in EU. 8 kg is not enough, when laptop and camera gear can eat half of that weight.
Ive seen the recommendation that before weighing, take the laptop out. You can keep it out while you do that and put it back in when on plane.
@@Johnrigsby agree! However, some airlines count it as a "personal item" and thus add it to the weight of the carry-on. I have had to pay the penalty. But nowadays, same airlines also allows for additional fee to the ticket to raise the carry-on weight limit to 12 kg. That is what I usually do, just pay extra, as the penalty fee is more than 4x costly.

F Stop backpack with ICU , so if carry on has to go in the hold due to a last minute airline challenge, the ICU containing the camera gear can be pulled and kept with you in the cabin

What is happening in this video is reverse progress. I'm amazed that the idea of carrying a backpack on your back seems easier than rolling a suitcase on the ground
Depends on the ground, Asphalt eats up wheels. Sand is also annoying.

I believe that Rick Steves, who knows a thing or two about travel, recommends the same type of bag. I've been using one for years and would never go back to the rollaboard. On planes, public transportation, up and down stairs, rough sidewalks, etc. this type of bag is much easier to handle than luggage with small wheels, which is designed to roll over the smooth floors of an airport and is often larger and heavier than needed. I know this from experience traveling with both.

We travel from Maine to Alaska yearly and we use Dusrtan 40L ultralight backpacks for our carry-ons. They work great. Hip belts all the way for comfort. Internal frame that is removeable and weighs nothing. We check other luggage of course but we travel pretty light.
