Comprehensive Review of the Osprey Aura AG 50 women's hiking backpack.
The Osprey Aura AG 50 comes in three different sizes depending on your torso length:
XS: carries 44 L, weighs 4.02 pounds, carries up to 45 pounds
S: carries 47 L, weighs 4.1 pounds, carries up to 45 pounds
M: carries 50 L, weighs 4.18 pounds, carries up to 45 pounds
Measuring your torso length:
Find your C7 vertebra (bony prominence behind the neck)
Measure from there down the center of your back to the level of your iliac crest (top of the hip bones)
A 50L bag is perfect for overnight or multi-day hikes. It easily carries all of your essential safety gear and overnight hiking items.
Other ultralight options tend to be a little less durable and typically don't carry as much weight. What this bag lacks in the weight category, it definitely makes up for in durability.
The frame of the backpack is designed to support and distribute weight. The Osprey Aura AG 50 has a lightweight internal frame.
Anti gravity technology: makes it feel like you are carrying less weight
Tightly stretched mesh: separates the hard frame from your back - promotes comfort and airflow.
Helps lessen back sweat.
Consider three main features related to design:
Pockets: 2 top lid pockets, 2 hip belt pockets, 2 side pockets (smaller items may fall out of side opening), large bottom compartment, stash pocket
Top loading design; does not have separate access to the middle compartment.
Accessibility: Large pocket fits 3L hydration bladder, gear loops and straps, bottom webbing for tent, convenient stash pocket
No separate access to the middle compartment
Top lid detaches completely and can be used as a small fanny pack.
With the top lid off, the backpack converts to a smaller backpack with a flap to cover the top load.
Comfort: thick shoulder padding, tightly stretched mesh sits comfortably against your back
Fit: torso, shoulder, hip, load, and chest adjustments to achieve a custom fit
Price: slightly expensive
Heavy duty capacity
High end
High quality
Lightweight comfort
Durable

Thanks very much for posting this video. I had some of my strap attachments wrong and watching your video cleared up my mistakes.
You’re so welcome, Jennifer. Thanks for stopping by my channel. Have a lovely weekend! 😊💕
the purpose of the side opening is for your waterbottle to be easier accessible. some people really dislike when the sidepocket only opens on the top, to them it feels like gymnastics to get the bottle out of and back into the pocket. 😊
Yes, thank you Miokka! I had just received this backpack and was going through the features. When I actually used it on a hike a few days later, I realized that side opening is WAY MORE accessible to reach your water bottle. Thank you so much! Have a lovely day! 🙂
@@live.my.adventure no problem ! it's one of those features that makes sense with usage, i guess. i also thought it was odd, and completely understand/share your fear of things slipping out.
how was it on your hike ? did your worry subside, or would you say that smaller things slip out ?
The hike was great, thank you. I used it hiking all over Hawaii and that anti-gravity design is great! It was so comfortable. Also, that side opening was so handy! And yes, my worry did subside, because I realized the pockets are cut with all the right angles to prevent things from sipping through! This backpack really does have a well thought out design. Thanks again for your feedback! 🙂
Love the Atmos 50(same pack) Great review. Allows to comfortably lift heavier weights than the ultra light packs.
I totally agree! I love the comfort and durability! Thanks for stopping by my channel, Brian!
i love the pink color!!
Yes! That pink “pashmina melon” color they have is beautiful!
Very nice review. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Rob, I really appreciate that. Have a wonderful day! 🙂
@@live.my.adventure do you have an Instagram account or any social media accounts where I can follow you?
Hey Rob, I do! It’s @essbee_travel 💕
I love Osprey packs. Some of the heavier packs can caryy much heavier loads and actually feel lighter than an ultralight. Practical engineering.
They are SO practical! I have several just because they are so well designed. Thanks for stopping by my channel, Mike. Have a wonderful day! 😊
Thank you!!!

Do you have a video comparing this to the ariel? I can't find one anywhere. I don't know which one to go for.
Hi Lauren. I have two separate videos, this one as well as one for the Ariel. Both go into detail about all of the features. Thanks for stopping by my page!
I am debating on getting the 50 or 65 liter (men's version - small). Are you able to fit a bear canister in your backpack?
Hi Kiet! 🙂 I have both 50 and 65 liters and honestly the actual space difference between both packs ends up being minimal. I can definitely fit a bear canister in my 50 liter pack, as well as a portable stove and all my camping needs. I hope that’s helpful! I think you will be totally fine getting a 50 liter pack (vs 65). Have a great day Kiet, and thank you for watching! 🥰
@@live.my.adventure thank you for your feedback. Hope you have a wonderful weekend
I think the opened side pocket may also be for hiking sticks?
That’s a really good point, Nane. That design could definitely also be used to carry hiking poles. Great observation! 😊 Thanks for stopping by my channel. Hope you have a lovely week!
How did you know which size fits you better? And where you can check that information?
Hi Wen. If you go to the Osprey website (link in description), you can click on the dropdown menu: Expert Advice > Pack Sizing & Fit > Size & Fit Overview.
If you scroll down to Women’s Sizing, there is a chart that correlates the torso length with the pack size that would be most appropriate for you. I hope that’s helpful! 🙂
You beatiful. I from in indonesia. Come here to Indonesia

Side opening to grab water bottle sideways.
Hi Lee. Yes, thank you so much. After using it quite a bit, I love the side pocket feature - makes it much easier to grab the bottle while the pack is still on your back. Thanks for stopping by my page! Have a wonderful day!
