Steve pls make a new beolab penta video plsssss
I love Pentas! Let me see what I can arrange ;-)
@@soundsheavenlyI have an mmc 4 rebuilt and then I have an mmc 5 that I dont use
@stpworld I also use MMC4 and I should have a spare one soon to be able to make the follow up video on this Beogram
@@soundsheavenly I have a bang and olufsen beocord 7000 to that I got refurbished from a dealer I love it
Most of these on eBay for sale WORK, just at people have the massive shock of the price for the replacement cartridge, they just sell it because the cartridge cost three or four times more than the secondhand turntable
Yes, I think some online sellers over price the cartridges as many of them cost more than buying a new cartridge!
About 20 years I was given a B&O deck similar to that one which was destined for the tip. I was going to restore it until I discovered the price of a replacement cart. (about £75 back then) . So, I gave it away instead. I went back to my Garrard SP25 mk. III. which was adequate for my old ears. Cheers!
Yes the B&O cartridges can be very expensive! The quality is very good though
@soundsheavenly
Steve, lovely work and thanks for the tips ! Just what I need.
I couldn't find the follow up video, could you post the link please?
Thanks, glad you liked the video! Sorry for the delay, I haven't had a chance to post the follow up video yet, I hope to be able to upload this soon
Hello
Can you please share a link to the device that connects to the speakers
Thanks
Please drop me a message on the contact page at soundsheavenly.com and I can get you the details!
Had that exact deck. The only real reasons I sold it was that we were transitioning to CD so it kinda became a bit redundant, but also replacement carts were really quite hard to get hold of and also v expensive. No idea if carts are available now? Wish I had kept it in a way as I have gone back to vinyl and have spent a small fortune getting back there lol
Yes this is a great record deck, the cartridges are still available from a company called SoundSmith in USA.
@soundsheavenly plss make new beolab penta video
Let me see what I can do...
Hi Steve, I have a perfect working beogram 1600 for 125€ with a basic mmc20s but could find a mmc20cl. Sounds great. Good luck.
Thanks! That sounds like a great deal you got there!
Hi Steve, happy new year good Sir, the decks themselves are quite robust, it is the cartridges that are the available from SoundSmith that are very pricey. I did buy a Beomaster 3500 in the end that needs some work, it’s matching CD and Tape. Really nice sound
Happy new year to you also! I love the Beomaster 3500, I have one at home!
@@soundsheavenly Are you popping tothe Bristol show this year Steve?
@jdekong3945 Not this time, but I will be at the Maverick hifi show on Barnsley in November, this is the highlight of the year for me and well worth a visit if you haven’t been there yet
@@soundsheavenly noted, wil see if I can make a trip, all the best
@@soundsheavenlyI have the 3500 series as wll Steve but I had my turntable stolen so I now have a rega planar 3 50th anniversary edition!
you wouldnt happen to know where i can find a circuit board for this same model would you? my 1800 has suddenly gave up, it starts to spin but then slows to stop, it tries to spin again on its own but stops quickly after. sometimes the tone arm drags on the surface and cant pick itself back up. hope i can bring this beauty back to playing shape :(
I am sorry that I don't stock any B&O spare parts or offer repairs, as I just make cables. I suggest contacting Multi Care at www.multicare.org.uk for B&O parts or repair advice. If you need any cables for your B&O system once you have got this working, please ask and I will be happy to help!
@@soundsheavenly appreciate the reply. i will definitely be reaching out soon as i am looking to pair a few B&O products with a non B&O receiver. thanks again !
What a fabulous buy, look forward to hearing it
Yes it is a real bargain!
Hi Steve- thanks for a very useful video on B&O Beograms and some of the problems that can be encountered. Addresses of the repair shops are useful and for those of us living in Belgium or the Netherlands the address of Beofriends. I bought a used TX2 some years ago from a main dealer near Brussels called Spelier Electronics, equiped it with an MMC1 from a German supplier which is good for CD4 quadraphonic discs. Spelier does have a service centre but mainly dealing with recent B&O equipment. Nevertheless, they do have a second-hand section called spelierbutik. I do hope B&O continue their interest in Beograms as they were superbly designed.
Glad the video was helpful, thanks for this useful information!
Do you play saxophone
I can only see part of it and it seems to be an alto
What brand is it
Can you show it and play it next time in your video
Hi, yes it is a tenor sax, just a cheap Boosey and Hawkes horn but with a vintage metal Berg Larsson mouthpiece it can really sing! If I get enough requests then I will play it in a future video!
Steve can I please be the first to request Your Latest Trick by Dire Straits? 👍👍
#steveplaysthesax
@@soundsheavenlyI would love to see and hear you playing the sax
Good call! I do like that track....let me see what I can arrange ;-)
I have been thinking of doing something like this, i have 2 MMC20EN styli (styluses ?) spare
I certainly recommend trying this, with advice from knowledgeable people like Beofriends it is well worth doing!
The Beocenter's of the period had essentially the same deck in them and had remote control too . Beocenter 7007 and the Higher end Beocenter 7700
Thanks, I guess as the Beogram 2000 had full Datalink functionality, I think of this as the first true remote controlled radial Beogram though
True . But if it lets me sit in my chair with a whiskey and press a button to play some Miles Davies on vinyl I'll take it !! lol@@soundsheavenly
@justinlinnane8043 good call! I agree ;-)
That's a true bargain. I'm an owner of a 4002 that my my brother had stored on a high shelf in his kitchen,it was stored there for 35 years together with a Revox B790. He bought them second hand in 1980 or 81. Asked what sort of devices or brands they were and he said it was a B&O and a Revox..... I was very surprised and became curious if they would work after the standstill. Powered on the Revox but immediately a Rifa condensator went up in smoke (disgusting smell) a fuse in the device was blown too, took it to my place bike-train-bike 120 miles. Removed the Rifa, put a new fuse in and the Revox worked but not for long, after a while the arm started returning after a few minutes. Opened the device and noticed a broken ptc, think 60% was broken off. It's a project i have to finnish. The B&O worked but the arm wouldn't sink. Cause was the dried up grease in the arm-mechanism,cleaned it and lubricated it and the machine works well. In the beginning it had some annoying speedvariations after some time but to my surprise the problem solved itself. Don't know how but i haven't heard it for a while. My brother had a spare cartridge too, the MMC 3000.
Those are two great vintage pieces! Good to hear that the B&O turntable is working again
Hi Steve, thanks for supplying my last cable.. 😊😊 Thanks for putting this video on, it’s given me the incentive to look for an older turntable. Moreover, try looking online for a replacement battery for my BeoSound 2 mp3 player because I really miss using it.
Thanks for your cable order! The older Beogram turntables are still a great option and well worth looking into
I have recently aquired a Beogram 2000 with a European plug and would like to hear yours playing while using the preamp but i cannot find the next video could you direct me to the correct place please
Hi, the video is not uploaded yet, I hope to have this ready in the coming weeks. Thanks for your patience.
That’s one heck of a bargain Steve 👍👍👍
Yes but it was a bit of a risk…
Great video, looking forward to hearing it play. Can I propose the Beocenter 7000 series from the early/ mid 80’s as having remote control radial arm decks? For sure they aren’t actually Beograms in themselves, but, for example, my BC7002 has basically the BG1700 from that era incorporated into it. Admittedly, the level of remote control is basic, having start/stop and raise/lower of the tone arm . No ability to move the arm laterally by remote.
Your renovation looks great, thankfully another Beogram saved and brought back to life.
Thanks, we will get it playing in the next video! Sorry, I had forgotten about the Beocenter 7000/7002…
Hi Steve Bang & Olufsen of Preston also have there own workshop and do repairs.
Thanks for that, however I only recommend companies whose work I have personally verified.
@@soundsheavenly B&O Wilmslow also offer a repair service! They repaired my B&O 3500 cd player a few years ago but cost me £250 ! But it was worth it!
@@johnhughes8466 Yes, it is good that they can keep the older systems working
do the "B&O" still producing any of players ?
Yes, they produce the Beogram 4000c, which is featured in the videos linked at the end of this episode
@@soundsheavenly hope to have it to compere them vs REVOX one ....
Thank you for great video, I bought a bang and olufsen beogram 5500 turntable from a restoration shop and it sounds beautiful, the chap david fully rebuild it and refurbished it with a mm4 stylus and all for £50,
Glad you enjoyed the video, that sounds like you got a great deal there!
Yes, it's a amazing shop called creations conservations curiosity and David builds and restores all kinds of things and enjoyed and learning something new about the bang and olufsen, catch your next video soon
@kmp435 thanks, next video coming soon!
Always good to see a piece of real hifi rescued from recycling!
Thanks, yes I am a big believer in repairing instead of just replacing when something fails
Great video Steve
Thank you!
£45 and it is a beautiful thing that would look great in the living room of anyone's home.
Yes, it is a superb product and a real work of art, well worth the money
I hope to learn how to service my 4000 one day!
Beogram 4000 is a more complex device, but with the right service manuals and parts then I'm sure this is possible.
B&O has excellent service manuals and there are a few videos on YT how to service B&O stuff. You should just be careful when you open the deck, on some devices B&O like to position their pcbs in weird ways and they can snap easily (happens on all beocord 5000s from 2500series).
@@felixlutticken5694 I will definitely be getting my skills up on more simple beograms before I move up to that one! The quotes I’ve gotten for restorations are insane even though I know a lot of work goes into them.
@felixlutticken5694 thanks, that is helpful. Not all the repair videos are good ones though…
@@soundsheavenly would be awesome if kose trading did a video on a 4000 restoration!

the capstan motor over heats because there's 37 dc going in to the motor where 24v dc was
i worked on alot of reel to reel and having a channel like you have here i used to get alot of mails all the time
Hi, we also have a cat so I keep my record player on a wall shelf high up out of his way! I just make cables for B&O, I won't be offering any repairs.
someone needs to make a new cartridge but with a replaceable stylus. Small market yeah, but would be so nice.
Yes that would be good but I think the construction of the MMC cartridge is too precise to allow for a replaceable stylus
