How do we practice surrendering?
Anyone who has ever participated in sports, music, drama, or any other competitive performance knows the importance of practice. Coaches train players to practice the things that will help them win when gameday comes.
But have you ever had a coach or teacher who trained you to surrender? “Alright, team, now let's all practice walking over to the other team’s bench and telling them we surrender!”
Such a practice is unheard of! Preposterous! Surrender is not something the average Westerner practices. We train to be more in control, not less. We train to make others surrender to our greatness.
Yet surrender is precisely what Jesus calls us to as his followers. And, ironically-unlike surrendering to another sports team-surrendering to Jesus is the only path to true victory.
In today’s video, Pastor Jeff Frazier describes what it means to surrender to the Lordship of Christ, and how we find abundant life as we practice submitting to his wise and loving rule.

A Prayer for Today
Triune God, you are my Lord and King. I was created through you and for you, and every breath I take is a gift from you. My entire life belongs to you-my body, my gifts, my feelings, my dreams, my possessions, my accomplishments-I have nothing and can do nothing apart from you. You are worthy of all of my trust, all of my surrender, all of my obedience. Forgive me for seeing my life as my own. Forgive me for resisting your Lordship. Forgive me for my entitlement, selfishness, and pride. Free me from my sin. Teach me to live a life of surrender, as Jesus himself modeled. Fill me, by your Spirit, with Christ's humility, love, and trust in you. May others see Christ’s beauty through my life today. I love you, Lord. Amen.
