Part 23: • Lance "Un" Rivera on B...
    Part 1: • Biggie's Business Part...
    --------
In this clip, Vlad started off asking Lance “Un” Rivera about former Bad Boy bodyguard Gene Deal saying that Biggie was about to leave the label after he saw a $62 million contract in Biggie’s luggage. Lance said that at the time, Biggie had proven himself so much that all of the opportunities were open. He then added that Biggie was battling himself on the charts as both a solo artist and with Junior M.A.F.I.A., which led to Un calling Biggie a “great A&R.”

@Mike I think people like to hear and say this to themselves, but there's context. Puff was young and motivated, but he had been around the music businesses as much as he could try to do.
Big didn't think he could've gotten that far. People carve paths based on what's in front of them. Nas is an entrepreneur now. Dre makes more outside of music. Jay started to venture out of music heading into his 40s. Back then, artist also didn't have the knowledge they do now.
Big at 24 and only 4 yrs in the game was starting to be exposed to his own potential. Before his death, he was just seeing himself as a fashion icon.

This shouldn’t be a surprise coming from how successful Big was as a solo artist with a multi platinum album, multi platinum singles to go with it and multi platinum features coupled with how successful he was not only as a multi platinum songwriter for others, (Puff, Kim, Jr Mafia) but also as a music executive with his & Un’s Undeas Ent which put out Jr Mafia’s debut album that went gold complete with a platinum single. Plus record companies figured Puff’s music expertise as Bad Boy CEO had/would rub off on him so that $62M was a win win rather could have been.

@@JayCapone37 Yes technically Big only put out two of his own albums, ‘ready to die’ and ‘life after death’ (L.A.D was a double album cause he had been in that car accident with Cease driving [he lost a lot of teeth from hitting his face/mouth off the steering wheel] and Charli Baltimore [she got thrown out of the car, through the windshield & landed on the hood, her head was split wide open] & from the car flipping a few times, Big F’d his leg up cause it got stuck under the dashboard & they had to use the jaws of life to get him out! So he was stuck in the hospital) but he wrote all the songs on Junior Mafia’s album with the exception of lil’ Kim’s verses (it has been stated over and over by numerous people that Kim wrote her own lyrics. That Big would go over her lyrics and tell her what he thought was “whack” and should be taken out. And what to replace it with or how to deliver certain lines) Big also wrote all the songs on lil’ Cease’s album too, so in his short time in the music business Big wrote 5 albums. I feel like the only other artist from back then that could do that would be Mase, cause Mase kept babyboy afloat after Big passed away. To this day I’m still finding out about songs from back in the day that Mase wrote.
