Absolutely love mine. Best bang for your buck. Ordered a red one as soon as it was available. Bought the metal transmision gears at the same time. (Haven't put them in) Still using the original servo and links. The only thing I've broken is the body from a hard fall. Gorilla tape to the rescue. Here are some free mods anyone can do. Move the shocks inward, raise the skid plate up even with the sliders and add a couple wheel weights to the front deck. Trim the ends of the front bumper and move it in. You have to drill new holes on the posts to mount it. But, it gives you better approach angles and the body doesn't pop off when it falls. Put a better set of wheels and tires on it, and it's a beast. Out performs my highly modified trx4m and scx24. Crazy. Just bought Injora's brushless system. They also came out with an LCG chassis. Now I have to decide how stupid I want to go. Lol.
Our first jump into crawlers was this Ascent 18 (Pink also!) and the TRX4M Defender. The Defender is my son's and the Ascent is mine. If the Ascent is a crawler, the Defender is simply just a RC car. Two different ends of the spectrum in capabilities when it comes to crawling.
Nice work Adam, I like all the upgrades for the Pink panther redcat. Wow what an improvement that injora reduction is very cool & noticeable as it crawls slower, I like the LGRP tremor servo so cool it fits in the Redcat. Can't say no to LGRP cyclone beadlocks with Black Label tires with INJORA inserts. Man I'm pumped up.
Just bought the Silver/Gun Metal Gray one for my son. I really diggin either the red or pink for myself. Although my daughter wants the pink on. Thanks for giving me peace of mind for buying the Ascent 18!
Funny, I had the same reaction when I stopped at my local hobby shop. Another mini truck was the last thing I needed, saw the pink one and just had to have it, lol. Great video as always
I bought the temor servo which fits perfectly in the ears, but the screw holes in the servo arm are the size of the tiny bead lock screws on the tires. Did you have to tap your arm?
Love my redcat...ive done brass covers and moved the esc and battery...changed shock angle...brass steering links...stock shafts spun open..shrink wrapped them good to go...no issues with servo or links yet....have injora steel white beadlocks with heavy brass rings and lgrp mts....such a beast so far...i find the motor and gearing really good stock...100x better than trx4ms.
That was an incredibly comprehensive and informative video .definetly have some work to do to mine I was planning on doing the over drive underdrive gears in the portals but now I want that transmission as well. Love your content cheers 🤘
It’s so worth it. The trans slows the crawl to a crawl. It requires the 4M motor, so get the package deal, gearbox and Purple motor. Super simple plug and play combo.
Very first thing I had to upgrade was the drive shafts. If you have any hint of traction the u joints pop apart with the slightest bit of throttle input. Replaced the stock ones with an injora stainless steel set. After a little over a month of ownership, my truck is more of an injora ascent 18 than a redcat at this point. Other than the chassis rails, and body its all injora.
Make it 4 wheel steer, where the servo is plugged up to the esc look under that and there's channel 3 it's a 3 position switch, plug a servo in there and you can operate it using channel 3, I'm in progress now, easy mod just need another front end incl servo
Nice vid! Those are all great upgrades for the ascent18, but, you forgot one. The stock driveshafts can be a little weak once you add weight and bigger tires.
They don't actually break they just spit the joint...I put mine back together and shrink wrapped them and they are great..I got brass wheels and covers and added weight and no issues
Hey Adam. Sorry this is not ascent related. Hope you have been well. I haven't seen any ax24 content in a while. I know they are different to set up. I started putting a little more time in mine, and just wanted to suggest the mofo rc double dragon chassis. Its on sale at the moment and is a game changer. It lets you use more appropriate length shocks to help side hilling. Anyhow its something that looks cool and really helped my AX. Have a good one!
I’m not new to wrenching but am new to rc. I which I could see how much grease you put in the gears on the transmission or portals etc. I think I over greased mine. Thanks for the videos.
thanks for this vid, I'm using this list for my build tiring to decide if I can make this into a droop set up however our rules require the tires be at least partially covered by fender so may have to run smaller tire. BTW I couldn't get the promo's codes to work mayby they had a time limit.
2:18 what yellow gym equipment is that? I used to have one that used Olympic weights back in the day and was trying to think of the name of that set up
Man I love these trucks! I'm surprised you had issues with the stock servo. I have 2 from the initial release, and those servos are holding up and are actually pretty good! Does that steering link hit the mounting screws at full turn? I've seen some issues with other steering links that lose some steering angle because of clearance issues.
Hello, i was tinking about upgrading to the OD and UD gears, have you tried out injoras UD transmission aswell. Injora states their transmission doesnt work with redcats motor, did you use injoras motor that come with the optional kit?If so, how is it with the OD and UD ? For shocks, would you recommend injoras 53mm or 59mm shocks?
Hey Adam, quick question, I ordered the torq servo from heli direct as well as the injora brass steering links, will the stock servo arm work with them or do I need to order an aluminum arm?
Mine didn't come with one, just the plastic assortment. Will the stock arm fit on the torq? Or do you know if any of the injora 25 tooth arms would work?
Has anyone figured out how tuck those drive shafts in? I haven't really gotten into it yet, but it looks like merely rotating the axles wont be enough.
@@larryfogle3697 oh, i mean the drive shaft hanging below the links, gets caught on rocks and worn out. Typically rotating the axle a bit tucks the drive shaft up and out of the way. This is just a design flaw of the Ascent 18.
😆my servo failed within the week . I bought it towards the end of October amd im still waiting on a servo from redcat to date ... LGRP is $59 for that servo 😆 🤣 I gave $100 for the truck 😆 🤣 guess it'll sit ...
You skipped forward during the 20% gear test. I don't like that. It looked like it was gonna spin faster, but you never gave it enough camera time b4 editing . Boo. I usually like you and vids, but this felt like a trick lmao

Great Video I have one and your right about the linkages and servo and the other stuff too!

Wow, this is a candidate for the next mini hulk sleeper build. I love that it looks pretty much stock but slays the course!
Thank you for doing a acsent 18 video these little Trucks are amazing I own 2 of them.

Fun upgrade -
Interior from spare-time hobbies fit perfectly :)
I'm liking that backdrop on your wall! It really ties the course together.
Same looks nice
Diggin' the new backdrop!

I’d love to see this truck with a Unity motor/esc in the future. 👍
Same mods I’ve done and it’s a beast
I bought the pink as well. Did my brass mods today. Love it
I've only changed rims and tires for a wild truck. Definitely a bad ass rig
Pinkie got big gains 💪 😤 🙌

I went with the Injora brass portals and diffs. They are just a little lighter than the Redcat stuff. But dang it! Now you made me order the link set!

Love this!
The Pink Panther is looking good 👍 nice mods
I need to add one of these to my stock for sure I actually tried to buy one yesterday but they were not available 😢 but great video thanks 🤘✌️
That is awesome
Great content

10:40 the mini jacks for the truck😂
Installing the INJORA MB100-R80 20A Brushed Mini ESC would be a great upgrade. I use 2 of these units and they are quiet and very smooth...and cheap.
Nice vid! Those are all great upgrades for the ascent18, but, you forgot one. The stock driveshafts can be a little weak once you add weight and bigger tires.

Broke mine first run
I replaced mine with injora stainless steel driveshafts. They've help up good so far, and they look pretty cool too.
How did you know I was going to get one haha super helpful may have to get the same upgrades
Good mods. The very forst free could be: trimming of the body. Already the stock wheels/tires cause massiv rubbing.

I’m not new to wrenching but am new to rc. I which I could see how much grease you put in the gears on the transmission or portals etc. I think I over greased mine. Thanks for the videos.
Good suggestion. I try to coat the teeth all around but not glob it on excessively

Your opinion on the small vrs larger tires? 24Yep has me trying some smaller shoes out. Cool vid.
Dude I saw the pink one and I had to have it as well.
Love my Ascent 18, leagues better than the SCX24 right out of the box.
It’s a great truck!
2:18 what yellow gym equipment is that? I used to have one that used Olympic weights back in the day and was trying to think of the name of that set up
Powertec multi station. Love it! Had it for years
It's like if Traxxas & Redcat had a baby! 🤣🤣😂
lmao😂

I just added them today. They don’t hit no
@@thepdc6220 cool thanks!
Any thoughts on driveshafts being replaced as well or focus on these upgrades first?
Hello, do you need a different servo mount for that tremor servo?
Biff from back to the future
What size inserts are you running on those black label wheels?? Bc I saw you didn’t have the link to inserts
Had a glitch in the vid on my end. The OD gears, did you suggest those with the new trans or in place of?
Hello, i was tinking about upgrading to the OD and UD gears, have you tried out injoras UD transmission aswell. Ima save up for one
THanks for the video! Question: Was a servo mount needed to purchase from the LGRP website?
sweet little truck,, Furitek help me!!!!!!
But do the TRX motors fit the Aluminum 24:1 transmission..injora says NO
Where can I find this rock course at like u have and how much
What motor did you install? Or is it one of those you cant talk about yet? Lol
i got the pink one too
Hey Adam, quick question, I ordered the torq servo from heli direct as well as the injora brass steering links, will the stock servo arm work with them or do I need to order an aluminum arm?
The Torq servo should come with an aluminum one that will work with the Injora links
Mine didn't come with one, just the plastic assortment. Will the stock arm fit on the torq? Or do you know if any of the injora 25 tooth arms would work?
what grease do you use?
So do you think that suspension links count as sprung or unsprung weight? I mean they're kind of both, in a way.
They are both.
Has anyone figured out how tuck those drive shafts in?
I haven't really gotten into it yet, but it looks like merely rotating the axles wont be enough.
I had removed one of the bottom links and it went in easier.
@@larryfogle3697 oh, i mean the drive shaft hanging below the links, gets caught on rocks and worn out.

The ascent body just looks awkward to me . Idk how they have stuck with it regardless if Its good .
I like the pink but don't get the green to get the pink😂
Those weren't bonus tips, they were mods. Would have been nice to see it run with just the 5 mods
Couldn't be any more reckless than the rest 💥💥💥
So why did my driveshaft’s fall apart one minute after driving it they were garbage
Defects..email redcat they will send you new ones...I just put mine back together and shrink wrapped them they are perfectly fine now
Course needs some repairs and upgrades
Would have been nice to see what just the top 5 did and not the top 7
Agreed, but the difference is
The Injora gearbox requires a 4M pinion, so the purple motor upgrade is needed with the gearbox. And it’s SOOO worth it for the slow crawl! Love mine.
