I'm glad I found this 21st adventure. I thought I was done with "Sharpie" at 20. What a relief after reading his very dark and unappealing "Stonehenge" which I forced myself to finish. It wasn't worth the effort.

Yeah, it sucked. Cornwell is a masterful writer when he's in his lane. But he doesn't know enough about Stone Age culture to do a good job writing about it.

I feel like Sharpe was too easily manipulated in the one. Literally everyone makes a fool of him for the first half of this novel. He acts pretty naive for a 43 year old combat veteran. I feel like Cornwell should have made Sharpe more clever as he aged.

well. since bernard is a master and you have never spent 25 years in combat, i will defer to bernard as to how a man finally happy with life would handle the situation.

Yeah you would think he'd be a little StreetWise and no bulshit when he heard it

Always loved the sharpe books but did think cornwell did a little disservice to my hero from history whose exploits match sharpe's if not better sir Thomas cochrane

Cochrane's behaviour lead to him being declared an outlaw. Brilliant fighting man but a thorn in everyone else's sides.

benard seems to have got tommy down to a t. what everyone seemed to have forgoten at the time, the chileans learned their behavior from the spanish. the rebels were just as corrupt and grasping as the perfidious spanish royalists. they do appreciate what cochrane did for them. they still name ships after him. they just did not want to pay him for his services.

bernard got a few of the sailing details wrong but pretty sure he said the sea was not his forte.

Mark strong should have played Sharpe in the tv series. Casting error

Absolutely disagree, Sean Bean was just brilliant, Bernard Cornwell was thoroughly pleased with Sean Beans portrayal as Sharpe

Weak follw up after the spell binding waterloo. Not even vaguely realistic. Disappointing; no south american country would risk a potential diplomatic crisis with the powerful great Britain

Except plenty of small nations and territories did go against Britain in the 19th century, even went to war with them. Like the kingdom of koya, kingdom of kandy, travancore state, al-qasimi, xhosa tribes, burmese, emirate of kabul, herat, satsuma, zulus, boers, basutos, tibet, zanzibar, somaliland.
