- Trying my first ever AMISH buffet at Der Dutchman in Sarasota, Florida! This was such a unique experience and I definitely can't wait to try another Amish restaurant in the future!

@@stevena.9678 I'm sure they LOVE to see not only any profits go up in smoke, but to lose money on top of it :) It's extremely thoughtful of pro eaters to go to all you can eat buffets!
And I'm being sarcastic, for anyone who can't figure that out.
Pro eaters are NOT like a "big eater", so you can't compare them to that--and they know that themselves.
Beyond poor manners to pay 15 bucks and then eat 100 worth of food...
@@flyingdumpling5204 If they inform the restaurant in advance who they are and what their intentions are, and the restaurant agrees then it's ok. But otherwise it's very poor behavior to just eat a lot of food for that small fee. If they would order lots of beers or a bottle of wine, that would allow the restaurant to still make a profit, but usually these competitive eaters just have the free water.
Amish cooking is absolutely amazing. I grew up in a small town with a huge Amish population, the bakeries were amazing! Also, Der is pronounced Dair, like Dairy, it's German :) Fun Fact, the Amish are referred to as Pennsylvania Dutch because the word for Germany in German is Deutschland, so they thought they were saying they were Dutch when they were actually German :)
What are the Amish called in ohio then? Never heard of Amish called that maybe in Pennsylvania!

For formal occasions, high German (Hoch Deutsch) is used. In the Amish community, non-Amish are called English. be dank y.
I have Pennsylvania Dutch in my heritage with the rest German. Straight old German cooking is what I crave!!!!

Ok, I normally watch your challenge videos and think “huh, looks good, I’ll try it one day”- but this one legit made me *jealous* . Everything looked so good, and I wish I could live in that buffet.
I have eaten a lot of Amish food at their doings when I would drive from IL to PA and MD. They make great food. I always love all their food also.
That buffet looked so good. Out here in Cali we can’t even go to a restaurant let alone a buffet. So I live vicariously through you and Randy thanks let’s keep it going. 👍👍👍

Finally, someone that likes cottage cheese on their salad. 😬 My whole family thinks it’s just weird but looks to me that they’re the ones missing out. I usually put a big clump on the side with black olives and eat it with my salad. Sooo good!

Florida is SO known for their Amish. I live in South Central PA, and am well acquainted with Dutchie food. This makes me want to go there and see if it's as advertised. Incidentally, pickled anything is a hallmark of Dutchie food. 3 Bean salad, Chow-chow, Cucumber Onion salad, Haystack salad, for a few. As well as pickled meats, and other veggies. If you don't like pickles, you won't do very well at a Dutchie table. Should you want to visit PA, there is a very PA Dutch buffet called the Shady Maple Smorgasbord in East Earl PA, in Lancaster County of course. Although there are many genuine PA Dutch eateries, Shady Maple is highly recommended. Oh, if it's your birthday, your meal is free.

Went to a Amish restaurant in Hershey PA in middle school(late 80s). It's still one of the best meals i've ever had.

I’m from Lancaster, PA. Completely surrounded by the Amish. And Yeeesssss, their food is definitely amazing! 🤩 I thought it was cute how she kept pronouncing “der” as “dur” 😆🙈😜 “Der” is actually pronounced like “dare.”
Very informational and honest I still like it when you and Randy are together as one during the video together you compliment each other in different ways you explain things on the food as he gives us his part of the details on things you truly are one in everything that you do together

Katina - I didn't know about Der Dutchman in Sarasota, so I appreciate the heads up. BUT if you want next level Amish food, plan a trip to Lancaster PA where there are THREE Amish restaurants all within a couple miles radius of the town. Lancaster PA is worth the trip!!

I live in Pennsylvania, in Lancaster County, surrounded by Amish. We have THE BEST Amish cooking around! Grew up here, born and raised, and their cooking is amazing!! And the baked goods they sell at their stalls roadside...omg, like nothing you’ve ever tasted! Come visit one day! You won’t be disappointed! Especially with the peanut butter whoopie pies and Shoo Fly Pie (my favorite!)

We have a lot of Amish communities in the central/northern NY areas. A lot of families have little stands by the road with homemade goods they sell. It's generally on the honor system, they don't have someone there all the time, and don't put prices on anything. My rule was I would pay twice what I thought it would have cost in a grocery store or bakery. I always stop when I see one. Canned vegetables, fresh homemade bread, and pies. Oh my sweet baby Jesus the pies. Apple, blackberry, blueberry, lemon meringue, you name it. I've never had anything that wasn't amazing from any stand I've found, and you know they're not using canned ingredients, it shows. They know their food.
We also have an Amish store in the area that makes their own deli meats. If you've never had any nice smoky Lebanon bologna, you're missing out. We'd always buy extra, along with a loaf of bread and some mustard, just so we could make sandwiches right there in the parking lot.
OH! I've BEEN to this place. The food is AMAZING and the dessert menu is HUGE!

Their bakery and deserts are incredible! They make a butterscotch flavored filling with crumbled bacon topped pastry that you'll never forget.

If you’re ever in Lancaster PA-there is a place called Miller’s- absolutely the best Amish food I’ve ever had. I’ll need to take a ride over to Sarasota to check that one out

@@TheInvisibleOne1026 I've been to Dienner's, Shady Maples, and Miller's. I haven't heard of Good and Plenty. We drive 2.5hrs 3-4 times a year to visit these wonderful restaurants.
@@TheInvisibleOne1026 Good & Plenty has sort of changed. They are more of a sit down order off the menu now. I think they still offer "family" style but only at special times now.

If you're ever in the Lancaster, PA area, check out Miller's Smorgasbord about a half hour east of Lancaster. It's similar in style to this buffet here, and I'm sure you'd enjoy it, since Lancaster is right in the middle of Amish country in eastern PA.

I have eaten at the Dutchman and at Yoders just up the street. They are good. You want a mind/stomach blowing Amish experience, come to the Shady Maple Smorgasbord Experience in Lancaster County, PA. Running full bore, they can feed 1200 people with no problem with a variety of food that is just nuts! I especially love their sweet potato pancakes in the morning buffet!

Idk if they have any challenges, “Betts Big T” in Chiefland, FL does have this all you can eat seafood special on Fridays and Saturdays. Shrimp, fish (catfish I believe) and crab. There may be an extra charge on the crab, I can’t remember, I’ve only been one time a year ago. The fish and shrimp were definitely very good. Definitely recommend if you two ever get around that area.

I went to Yoders Amish Buffet in Lancaster County, PA. My most favored dish was the ham balls. They are softball sized, made of chopped ham and glazed with crushed pineapple. Baked to perfection and devoured while still hot!!!!!
You guys should try Shady Maple Smorgasbord near Lancaster, PA. Great Amish food (and all you can eat, of course). There are also several food challenges in the area.
