While the Algarve’s abundance of world-class golf courses are the main draw for visiting golfers, superb year-round weather, nightlife and of course excellent hotels are all part of the package as well.
During a whirlwind tour of the Algarve, starting in the Central Algarve before heading to the East Algarve, Rory stayed in 3 separate hotels during his visit to Portugal in 2019. While playing the likes of Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo, Rory was based in Wyndham Grand Algarve, as well as The Lake Resort, before heading east and checking in to the luxurious villas at Monte Rei.

We have stayed at the Magnolia hotel for the last few years, best breakfast of any hotel we have stayed at! And being able to walk to Pure cafe is a bonus, also it’s not a big hotel so no big crowd around the pool which means a relaxed atmosphere!

Hi Rory, some great courses there. I think my perfect destination would be Ireland (which I would love to see on the Channel one day!) as the courses are amazing. Tralee, Carne, TEC, Waterville, Dooks, Ceann Sibeal and Connemara would be my best bet.

I've said it before on a video that I think Ireland is "pound for pound" the best golf destination in the world! Tralee is in my top 3 courses of all time too.

Unfortunately, it pisses down in the Emerald Isle all of the time

Yes it's a shame I didn't get to spend more time there. My whole Lake Resort experience was in darkness. 😂

My husband and I are looking to travel to the Algarve area of Portugal and will be staying with another couple. We are travelling from North America and this will be our first visit to Portugal. Would it be more cost effective to stay at a golf resort and make use of a golf package, or rent an apartment? I am new to golf and will have the highest handicap of our group (30) the best handicap of our group is 18. Any recommendations on appropriate courses for us? Thanks kindly.

Apartment, a suite of rooms forming one residence. North American term. Villa, a large luxurious house with its own grounds either in the country side or by the sea. More of a European term. You're welcome Rory. Could have Googled it yourself you lazy bugger. 😉
