I visited this market on summer of 82 the only fruit was available watermelon apple and cabbage.lots of good memories.very nice people and lots of pretty girls, very cold. Androvskaya vodka was 4 rubble, tramvaiwi taket was 3 kapik avtobus 4 kapik metro ?

I am a solo traveler. I know 67 countries. My next country to visit next year will be Belarus. I was in Lithuania last month. So close to Belarus. I saw a bus leaving from Vilnius to Belarus. I regret why I didn't take that bus. Cheers from Brazil.
Everything to do with dairy and beef is excellent in belarus. On the road to gomel, I saw roaming, grass fed cow herds. In western Europe only a tiny amount of cattle is raised in these great conditions. In Belarus it seems like class 1a beef is food for the masses.
I think pretty much all central and eastern Europe has some form of smoked (or not) pig fat. In Romania we call it slănină. In my region old people call it clisă (a regionalism). Unlike in Belarus that mostly uses the back fat, in Romania we use the front fat too. We both smoke it or boil it and use paprika. I prefer the smoked one.

My family emigrated from the Left-bank of Malorussia in the late 19th century, a few Versts north of Poltava, and made their way to London to start a new life. However some cultural memories have always stayed with us. One of the things that I have always admired about White Russia and even Russia proper, but more specifically where you are, is the cultural harmony between the populations. The idea of tension between a White Russian and a Russian in Minsk would be considered ridiculous, there is a deep cultural respect for the two languages or even the dialect In-between ( I forget the name), they are both considered an important branch of the peoples of the Rus'. Sadly where we came from, the Ruthenian ideal of the Western Ukraines (from the Second Polish Republic) has spread so rapidly across the Right Bank since 1991 and lead to an entirely predictable Kulturkampf, it's really just the Russians of the South/South-East and the Cossack Ukraines (my ancestors) on the Left-bank now. My comment is really just to say don't end up like to the South of you, and that an Eastern Slavic familialism is always stronger than a national chauvinism. The Market you showed was fascinating, such a wide variety. I wish you and your family well! 😇🎆
