      French Machine I use both. I run XT / slx on some of my bikes because it’s cheap and does the job but it’s not built to the same standard as srams stuff which simply works better, lasts longer and can take more of a beating but costs a lot more. You can buy a whole XT groupset for the price of x01 cassette. I’ve got three and half years out of an x01 cassettes and it’s still going strong I get a year out of an XT cassette before it needs replacing. Sram works out cheaper in the long run.

      I first thought I'm bleeding my M8000 (8010 in front) brakes incorrectly and this wandering bite point is a result of the air in the system. But as I found out many people have this problem it seems to be a design problem indeed.

    • @kangsterizer
      @kangsterizer 4 роки тому +2

      centerlock is not really better, just different. its about the same weight and arguable you can mount it faster (but does that matter?) while on 6 bolt you can.. use a screw driver to mount them (i.e. no cassette tool required). The fact that its screw on means it can be hard to remove (like the new cassettes), however, while there's a clear mechanical advantage when doing so on cassette there aren't any on rotors, because bolts are far stronger than the old freehub's splines.
      Now what you can simply do is get sram centerline 6bolt rotors with your xtr brakes, works perfectly fine (arguably better, noise-wise)

    So I demo’d a bike with this groupset, and I really tried to like it, because I wanted to buy the bike. What I found was that although the XT drivetrain did live up to the claims, I couldn’t get past the sharp clunking feeling it gave when shifting, as opposed to my existing/ previous bikes with GX and X01. Is this something that can be fixed with tuning, or if I am a fan of SRAM, just stick with bikes running sram?

    I’ve been running the new XT group set for 8 months as well and it is AMAZING but I have already had to warranty my derailleur due to the clutch binding up. I also work in a shop full time and warranty at least one XT derailleur per week for the same reason so just beware before you buy any of the new Shimano 12 speed group sets, they all have a clutch binding problem but Shimano is great at warranting them.

    • @hardtennis
      @hardtennis 4 роки тому

      @hadleybennett6875 3 роки тому +1

      skalibro Sorry man but your comment literally makes no sense. You should be able to leave your clutch on at all times and it should perform good, they never had clutch problems with the 11 speed stuff. Like I said I’m a bike mechanic and see this stuff all the time. Also are you really going to stop on the trail to turn your derailleurs clutch on since your going DH, seems pretty stupid to me.

    • @hardtennis
      @hardtennis 3 роки тому

      Cesar Chavez I agree it's stupid and questioned them...dont understand how they say that unless they know it comes packaged too tight..and seen problems...But they say I'm only one who came with this sticky derailleur problem... I just will make sure to keep greesed...I will test both positions and see what rides better with new replacement again this time...im sure I'll like it on as it feels better shifting.
      So clutch off is just for taking wheel off...imo... I wonder what is the truth from shimano. And how my bike dealer recommends this off...

    • @hadleybennett6875
      @hadleybennett6875 3 роки тому +1

      skalibro Honestly your bike dealer is probably telling you to run your derailleur with the clutch off position because they are to lazy to warranty it for you. Trust me I’ve been in the industry for years and Shimano derailleurs should be ran with the clutch on at all times. These high end derailleurs were made to with stand rough terrain and to keep the chain from slapping every/falling off. I would highly recommend going to your dealer and demand that they warranty it if your derailleur in binding up with the clutch on.

    • @vitalmtb
      @vitalmtb  4 роки тому

      The Quadiems are super consistent and reliable with great lever feel and modulation. We found them slightly underpowered in certain situations though. The new TRP DHR Evo should address that.

    My Saint m820 does not have wandering bite point. My Hope Tech V4 does wander and feel useless on my downhill bike because the Hope Techv3 lever crushes my fingers and a while. I even sent it back to Hope for them to fix it, but they sent it back unchanged. Hope does not reply on e-mails either. Sad to see Shimano has this problem suddenly. Not easy not knowing who to copy. For the record, Shimano, don't copy Hope Tech 3 levers!

    8 months is not a long term review when it comes to Shimano XT. Do another review in 10 years for a first impression and another in 20 years for the long-term review. I have some 20 year old xtr components that still work and are surprisingly smooth.

      @@paullehrbmx Well I guess that the Deore and SLX groups are just some lesser groups for poor people :D But seriously - Deore XT is a pretty high tier group set, the deore m6100 and slx m7100 offer almost the same functionality at a lower price, so the term "Workhorse" just doesn't fit in with the second highest shimano group set ;)

      RacingRalphEVO it’s bc it durable like the others and well lasting and made with more expensive derailleur components and is much more of the type you can beat on

    • @Alex-eu7ls
      @Alex-eu7ls 4 роки тому

      @@RacingRalphEVO XT is the best compromise between price, durability, and weight. It's cheap while having 100% of the functionality of XTR. Once you go lower, you start compromising on build quality.

    • @RacingRalphEVO
      @RacingRalphEVO 4 роки тому +1

      Alex Alex Sounds like you are just repeating some stuff you read on the internet. Tell me, where is the build quality difference between a slx and xt crank. The xt crank is 11g lighter, that’s it. The cogs on the cassete are the same, except for the second biggest one - xt has an aluminium one. The only noticeable difference between slx and xt is the shift lever and brake levers (they come with free stroke adjustment). So when you pay more for the casette, cranks, chain, derailleur just to save a few grams on each, that’s not in line with „workhorse” logic.
