"To laugh often is boring..." and fake. I don't trust people who laugh often.

Honoré de Balzac, his rival was better. LOL

His rival? Balzac and Hugo were friends. I think Hugo even spoke at his funeral. Balzac wrote many great novels, probably no one of which is remembered as well as Les Misérables and possibly even Notre Dame de Paris, sometimes called (inaccurately) The Hunchback of Notre Dame in translated English titles. People who continually play the game of "this is better than that" frequently miss out on a lot of great things. Think about it. By the way, nobody is his right mind would argue than Balzac was better penning dramas and poems than Hugo. In prose fiction, their methods and approaches were very different, not necessarily one better than the other. The need to find the "greatest," "the supreme," "the best," etc. says more about the insecurities and need to find idols of the person making the statement than about any objective reality. " I like this" does not make "this" greater than "that" because the arts by their very nature are creative and subjective. You're welcome to like whatever writers you wish, just don't pretend that you are making an objective statement about who is better. When dealing with great writers, you are laying yourself open to ridicule and LOL. By the way, I just ordered two volumes of Balzac in French, so I don't have a dog in the who is better than who fight. Good luck.
