- Mark Blyth, political economist at Brown's Watson Institute, and Carrie Nordlund, political scientist and associate director of Brown's Master of Public Affairs program, share their take on the week's news.
Today's topics include, the tragic mass-shooting in New Zealand, what's wrong with Boeing's airplanes, the college admission scandal, how Captain Marvel brings us hope, and the odd sensation of agreeing with President Trump.

Love these chats. Wish they were longer.
And more often!
I'd be delighted if these talks were longer and occurred more frequently.
Surely the tag line is:
"Mark the month and Carrie on"
Carrie the mark on
These chats are great, can't wait for the next one please ;)
I liked the "Carrie On & Question Mark" :)
I have missed this show! Glad it is back!
I am one of the 348 people who listened to this podcast.
Mark should run for president just so I can see him grill the other candidates on the debates.
Best summary of Beto i've heard tbh

Social media platforms are VERY different than standard publications or networks due to the sheer volume of content posted. It is impossible to manually filter through all content posted and algorithms to filter visual and verbal content are far from perfect. Most significantly they lack the ability to asses context. At best they could kick off organizations after being identified and even then there is nothing stopping them from migrating or setting up their own site some where else.
Thank You,
Thank You,
Thank You...
I can think of no one I'd rather hear,
especially today,
than Mark and Carrie.
Thank you...✌😀 🚬
Mark, all big jets are incredibly complex. Boeing management was unethical and forced engineers to cut the wrong corners.
Mark Blyth ❤❤❤
Good.
Guess we got a little behind the scenes look near the end there...
Would be nice if Carrie would pay even the slightest attention to what is going on in Britain. Corbyn has been the staunchest opponent of a hard brexit in line with labour party policy decided at the party conference 6 months ago.
this image over video... Is Mark on the left and Carrie on the right? :D
Binge it i did it with the first 6 season s
I want spaghetti!
But no pasta! 😄
@@reedbetweenthelines1385 Pasta could be a lot of different things.
Name suggestion: These Are Not the Data You're Looking For
The brexit conspiracy theory would suggest No Deal Brexit will suddenly happen between 29th March and 12th April
Mark to market
When is Mark going to talk about Brexit. He called it but I haven't heard much since it looks like it's going off the rails
He talked about it, its just there's nothing much to say about it
@@Confucius_76 it's the 29th of March today. Nothing is happening. That's pretty big news. He's an economist, how does the delay affect the UK economy? He correctly made predictions before regarding Brexit and the US election. What are his predictions now?
@@howardgstrecke that's a fair point. What do you think the economic ramifications are?
The Brexit process will be a long drawn out process. Maybe won't happen. Hopefully the big manufacturers won't pull out. Maybe there will be big political backlash for the government
@@howardgstrecke I don't think the big manufacturers will pull out. It'd be pretty expensive to do that. This guy has a good economic prediction for brexit: ua-cam.com/video/0QYwucn-uA0/v-deo.html
Mark Blyth: My, it must be nice to know everything about everything.
We should all accept sharia and everything will be fine.
"shutting down the facebook channels?" only approved communication to be available? i yearn to be polite dr blyth, but sorry, more non-government communication desirable, not less. and shame on you.
I'm a big fan of Blythe but I'm with you on this one.
Gavin Debecker says persons who commit mass shootings, etc., are seeking recognition. One way to combat these acts is to purposefully mispronounce, or completely avoid using their names. These behaviors are free publicity. Intriguing idea? What is there to lose? Probably much more to save.
This person has no background in sociology nor psychology.
@@buzoff4642 Which person?
Aren't you two those Econologists? I hope you won't Carrie a Grudge and give me a bad Mark.
You argue for a government intervention on free speech to combat domestic terrorism . Then , you warn of the danger of a government intervention to combat liberal ideology . You're smarter than that , please try again . edit : I fear the intended humor may not have come across ... I was trying to sound professorial .
Well, if you're Atheist, you believe in a deterministic universe, so A.I. would be your operating system, because you dont believe in there can be a Ghost in the Machine, never mind humans having free will.
