Its such a damn shame that there is no "perfect" adaptation of Berserk that fans could recommend to people. The 97' version is close, so incredibly close, but it cuts some very important characters from the story entirely and basically ends on an enormous cliffhanger that encourages you to pick up the manga. The movie trilogy is more "complete" in the sense that it generally covers the entire Golden Age arc and leads into the rest of the story very naturally. But it also cuts out certain characters and *zooms* past so many quieter, introspective and character building moments in order to keep each movie under 2 hours. And we don't talk about the 2016-2017 anime. It was complete garbage that skipped and/or butchered 2 of the best arcs in the entire story.
One day someone will have the courage and care to make the adaptation! It’s such a cultural stamp in the manga and anime space, but who knows when that will happen
The 97 version is the best in my opinion, even though it lacks animation for action, I like how it's kept as close to panels as possible because if it was done any other way it would have to be a project spanning multiple years with just how much detail is put in the manga. 3D animation is the alternative to that and it's really not my kinda thing, this series though ain't that bad admittedly

Because you never judge a book by its cover, Miura made one of the most despicable fictional characters look stunningly beautiful on the outside exactly for that reason, while he made Guts completely rough and scarred, Guts is far from perfect, but he tries his best to protect the ones he cares about, after all, he is only human, and that was Miura's intention, show that humans don't need to be perfect or good looking to keep fighting the good fight, and we won't have a guaranteed happy ending, but hell, we still try our best in our journeys called life, if you read Berserk you'll see thru subtle and not-so-subtle metaphors the very best and very worst of humanity, its... The very best piece of art in the world IMO(the most humane in the very least).

Honestly for me both the 97 and memorial are at the same level for me, that's why when I'm asked about Berserk I only recommend the manga.
