In two videos you have completely changed my outlook on recording. I went to audio school and, even though I appreciate the advanced techniques we learned there, we never learned how to get amazing drum sounds out of one channel on drums or how to record committing to a certain sound. Great stuff, keep it up!
Dude so awesome. The one pre and eq I could always reach for and always want more of. Have you tried changing the input impedances yet? Low impedance for dynamics and ribbons or low output mics, high for condensers or high output mics. Changes the frequency response of the preamp. It’s subtle but it’s there.
I will say, I've worked my way up to my Gibson acoustic and I'm thankful I did. I learned how to change strings and bumped the shit out of my two first guitars around before becoming a "careful", better guitarist and guitar owner. I now am in a position to never upgrade again! Only maybe to add a guitar with a different body to record different sounds. Great content man! Thanks for putting in the good work
Wow one of most original, down to earth and enjoyable channels I have discovered in a long time. Very talented musician, amazing creativity and fun to watch. 😊
@@travisraab if you could help me. i have a simple home studio, i`m recording bossa nova with a nylon acoustic guitar and a mic to do vocals plugged into a Evo16 and thinking to get some gears like a Preamp, eq and a compressor i heard recording a good signal is the key, so i`m thinking to get first a good preamp. do you think the Warm Audio WA273-EQ 2-channel Microphone Preamp & EQ is a good choice? is it good to have both worlds in a unit, i always want to get some extra channels to have more possibilities, another think when i saw mount racks with these, they don`t use the 2 channels, they buy like 2 unit`s with 1 channel, is there some explanation? and unfortunately i cant afford a neve :( i have a lot of questions, these is one of millions hahaha, thanks in advance
my advice is to just record straight into your evo and do everything in the box. If you want to mess with outboard gear, you can, but it won't be an enormous change in sound. I would recommend upgrading the sound of my room, my mic, or my guitar before anything else.@@felipecesarlourenco8955
I would love to hear the same song with an AT2020 and a GAP Pre-73 and see the difference. If you're a musician first, it is absolute overkill to go for the Neve unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket. Compelling performances will outshine gear, but I get it if you're coming from an audio engineer perspective and plan on recording other musicians.
Nice to catch a buzz off of watching you enjoy that Neve! Gonna have to get some new strings for my classical too! But to keep everything in Neve-land quality what gauge fluorocarbon fishing line? 😁
I went to Sweetwater about a month ago to get a strat. It was obvious that they didn't want to help me or answer any of my questions. So it will be a long time before I buy anything from them again. Nice video though.

Nice demo , but honestly Andrew masters comparison was well done and clearly accomplished what his intention was .. I guess if a third would have been the uad preamps in his interfaces we could Analyse your opening comment
Yeah I was gonna say this as well. His comment in the video was a little off putting. Andrew Masters video was very good and you absolutely can hear a different, idk wtf this guy was on about.
Anyone reading this; Heritage Audio makes a clone just as nice for less than half the money. This one is a clone also by the way. It's AMS Neve, not Neve. Rupert Neve designs is more Neve:) Preamps are a bit overrated anyways, spend your money elsewhere that has a greater impact on your sound.
@@travisraab Well, I've tried a lot of them, that's why I specifically mentioned the Heritage Audio one. Not talking about all the clones. Although a lot of them are also great. People give too much kudos to preamps in my opinion. Your room, your mics, your placement and instruments are way, way more important than using this one or a Heritage one, the difference is not that big.
Hey, regarding the firewire Focusrite interface you have (saffire pro 40 or whatever it's called). Are you using that with Windows 10? I had compatibility problems once I upgraded to win10 and it's been collecting dust since. I kinda miss it. No issues on your end?
LoL ! Only using a sm57 and even messing around with the eq you can still hear that classic neve pillow box punch thump sound funny none of the clones can even do this at all they get the warm sound but not that classic neve PUNCH !!!!!!!!
I like this video too haha. You're bang on about buying shitty guitars my friend did the same thing and bought like 5 $4-500 guitars while we were in high school and then right before we graduated I bought a nice gretsch and he played it and was like "oh."
Music gear is never an investment. That whole mindset is predicated on the idea that you're going to get rid of the gear, and if it was good, you wouldn't be doing that. This sort of mindset also fuels GAS, which we all have way too much of. It's nonsense. If you want an investment, buy stocks or gold. You can't say "clients hear with their eyes" and then make decisions yourself based on a logo and convince yourself it's rational because "it's an investment." Investments only pay off when you sell. And you get clones if they do the same job as well or better, and are cheaper. Warm Audio makes some fantastic clones that are better than the "real" (differently manufactured over time, not produced anymore, or ill-supported) things. Not to mention, if you're packing a setup with 8 preamps and buy clones, it means you can literally do much more with your valuable money than you could otherwise. If you're touring, buying two clones and having a backup might be a much better option than buying one of the "real" thing and being screwed when something goes wrong. Mr. Wylde's opinion is easy to have when you have that much infrastructure and support built up around you. Money helps too ;-) That's my two cents; It's silly to tell working musicians that a clone isn't good enough, when it actually might just be the smartest option in a lot of cases.
Ahaha warm audio preamps are not better than real neves, are you high??? Let’s see what a used warm audio 1073 is worth in 10 years vs a real neve and then tell me it’s not an investment. And maybe it’s not an investment in a traditional sense (ie. expected annual rate of return etc), but collecting equipment that lets you do a job better and can sometimes increase the legitimacy of your work will in return increase your income from said business. I have experienced this first hand with buying an API console. When everyone’s mixing in the box a lot of people come to me over the other guy as I have a competitive edge and the $ return I’ve seen from increase in mixing clients is far beyond a return I could expect from the stock market. Plus I get to do what I love.
"Investments only pay off when you sell." Tradesmen invest in tools which allow them to do their job. An investment is far more than buy low, sell high. I've got many investments that pay me weekly and monthly, and I don't have to sell the investment to get my return.
Awesome vid but wait neve stuff is way more spendy for (subtle differences next to clones) so that’s why we get the clones anyways. Poorness. Great song you can play and aren’t just a great junkie like some others on YT who don’t seem to have any chops and I’m think what theehell are they even doing in there ?!!

nice work. sounds great!
Question should the neve 1073 level knob be set at 12:00 🕛 o clock or cranked all the way to the max?
cranking all knobs to the max all the time is the best way to do everything
