The joys of travel. Thanks for the excellent video and reply.
Loved the video!! I've been living 15+ years in the neighborhood and never made the connection between the green color and the Irish (however obvious) Due to the Malvinas war, any part of our history told to us as kids, that would put the UK in a positiive light was made pretend not to have happened, which is absurd! The trains were a huge part of the growth in Argentina's golden years, and at the same time it's been treated with such disregard that there's never been explicit mention of the *irish* working on said trains... you have "el barrio inglés" and "los ingleses del ferrocarril" but nothing of the irish. My, what an eye opener. It would be so great to get the trains rollling again as in our prime... Again, great video!
Even though Ferro is not playing in the first division these days, its legacy in Argentina's football culture is very prominent, especially in Buenos Aires city. Take a walk in the “English town”, a very unique set of blocks still showing picturesque English architecture houses.

@@hector7187 no sir. First of all, arabs are not a country. The"turcos" that came to Argentina were not really from Turkey, but from those countries under the domain of the Ottoman empire carrying a Turkish passport, however, most of them were from Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, North African countries, etc. But as a single origin country, there were more Irish. The wet pampas are filled with Basque and Irish in the countryside. The sauce called chimichurri is a distortion of the word jim Cary, a gaucho gringo that invented it. As of Germans, definitely way more Irish than Germans. Germans concentrated in certain cities. Specially in Cordoba. Even Argentina history is filled with Irish individuals, the most famous admiral brown.a true national hero
In the Argentine he died Father Fahey by his side '57 was the year his country mourned him A hero of the nation he's remembered with elation Throughout the world where freedom still abounds And the Southern Cross take note where bold Willie Bullfin wrote The Irish still support you Argentina With the Empire tumbling down let no Paddies back the crown "Las Islas Malvinas, Argentinas"
@@GrahamCahill-uj3sc Right on, Argentina is home to the largest Irish-descended community outside of the Anglosphere, with around 200,000 people with Irish ancestors. But the part about canals, and even from the Andes, that's the very first time in my 50 years of living that I hear about that, and I'm an Argie. We barely have any canals in Argentina, and certainly not from the Andes, otherwise we would be harping on them all day like it's another Messi. Anyway, I'm going to google it up just ouf of curiosity. In echange for your trivia, here's mine: during the early days of the disastrous Malvinas campaign in 1982, our Junta sent a guy with excellent English to be the new Chief of Police. This Argie guy's name was Douglas Patrick Dowling, he was of Irish descent and hated the Brits with all his guts. He was a Major in the Argentinian Army (and was accused of torture by political prisoners) and the nightmare of the kelpers (who are even more loyalists than the orangemen up in Ulster). He had to be sent back to the continent after a month because he had immediately alienated himself all of the Scots-descended occupiers of Malvinas. Here's a full article in Spanish in reputable Argie newspaper La Nacion: www.lanacion.com.ar/politica/la-bestia-negra-de-malvinas-la-historia-del-militar-argentino-que-todavia-despierta-terror-en-las-nid20042022/ Another bit of trivia is about another Irish-descended Argentinian Army conscript, Ronald Quinn, who acted as interpreter (there were some more Irish-descended conscripts, not out of any special plan or anything but just sheer coincidence, and there were also some English-descended Argentinian conscripts, mind you). I've always wondered if this Quinn had anything to do with a Quinn family from ireland who were neighbours to my father when he was a kid in Buenos Aires in the 50s and 60s.

So interesting !! I was born and lived many years in Caballito so I love that neigbourhood but I didn't know this from the past of Caballito Really emotional for me THANK YOU !
Glad you enjoyed it! Such a brilliant neighborhood too
Just discovered this channel. As a Canadian born son of Argie immigrants, I take my hat off to you. What a wonderful way to bridge the Spanish speaking and Latin American world with a curious English speaking world.
Also, you’re an absolute legend for having learned Castilian.
You’ve got a new subscriber in me.
Thank you!
Great serie of videos showing some Argentinian clubs
Great video, he was very well informed not only about the club but Irish history as well.
irish accent sounds so good! great country
Hermoso video, muchas gracias.
Can’t wait to visit and bring presents from Donegal. 🍀🙌🏻
Peace from Ireland 🇮🇪 🍀✌🏼
One of the few stadiums where one can watch the games from the top floors of the neighboring buildings.
Cool video dude. O'Higgins in Chile are named after the founding father of modern day Chile whose father was from Sligo, they have the tricolor in the badge 💚🤍🧡
I'll hopefully get there at some point!
SUPERB video.
That was so cool. He seemed like such a nice dude an he was clearly chuffed with the jersey!
Visciglio es un maestro .
Incredible video Excelent One of the clubs ever in the foundation location Was a pleasure visit this stadium I remember when Miguel Angel Juarez suffered a serious disease in an attempt against Germán Burgos
Gracias James! Me encantó el video! Vamos Ferro y vamos Irlanda!
Excelente! Hermoso!
Great video!
Interesting video! BTW, Saint Patrick's saltire (the Irish part of the Union Jack flag) is also red and white so at the time these colors represented both England and Ireland (within the United Kingdom).
What a wonderful video! I live in Buenos Aires, didn’t know all of this… Belgrano R also a neighborhood with lots of influence from the British Isles.
Belgrano has more German influence than British, it even has it own variety of German: Belgranodeutsch.
Sounds very like a Northern Ireland accent to me.
I love Argentina and enjoy hearing your Spanish.
Good video. Very interesting.
Would have been nice to have seen you present a Northern Ireland Camisa alongside the Republic of Ireland one.
Gracias.
I stuck with Ireland as an island in this video as we were talking about a time historically when Northern Ireland was yet to exist! I'm sure they'll be a story to tell that involves NI though, I've got a shirt ready for when and wherever that might be
@@ThePartidoFootball very interesting and enjoyed hearing your Spanish. I have to admit I’m envious of your opportunity to travel or live in Argentina.
I spent some time in Panama. When I was asked where I was from I’d just go with the flow and say Irlanda. I was always asked Irlanda del Norte o Irlanda del Sur.
I was also asked were there leprechauns in Ireland.
The joys of travel.
Thanks for the excellent video and reply.
Excelente video, felicitaciones!!! 🟢⚪🟢
Loved the video!! I've been living 15+ years in the neighborhood and never made the connection between the green color and the Irish (however obvious)
Due to the Malvinas war, any part of our history told to us as kids, that would put the UK in a positiive light was made pretend not to have happened, which is absurd!
Thanks for your comment, really interesting!
Even though Ferro is not playing in the first division these days, its legacy in Argentina's football culture is very prominent, especially in Buenos Aires city. Take a walk in the “English town”, a very unique set of blocks still showing picturesque English architecture houses.
I'm Irish living in LA my kids are football mad / I'm definetly taking my kids to a game. vamos.
amazing video.
was raised at Ferro, had no clue!
Best random video UA-cam has suggested to me in a long time. Instant subscriber 👍 looking forward to scrolling through all you other videos now. Greetings from Belfast

Im also Irish, my team is Argentinos Juniors (el semillero del mundo!) but im very fond of Ferro Carril Oeste as Argentinos played at their stadium for many years until their own was rebuilt. ❤💚
Loved my experiences at Argentinos Juniors as well!
Clubes que valen la pena
Interesting channel you've got here
Thank you Irish brothers, we always have you as brothers here. This year I hope to know your beloved land and to see Scotland free from the English.
😂🙄
Thanks mate but we're two different countries 😂
🏴🇬🇧
Brilliant video and well done 💚🌲🍏☘
great video story!
look forward seeing you in Avellaneda to see the kings of South America Independiente !
I'm from that barrio. I now live in the States, but go "home" every year. I live a block away from Plaza Irlanda (Irish Park) and Saint Bridget School and Father Dillon schools. Both huge castle like private schools. After the Spanish and Italians, the Irish are the third largest minority in the country. Even Che Guevara has Irish descent
They are not the third largest. Plenty of Germans and Arabs in Argentina .
In the Argentine he died Father Fahey by his side
'57 was the year his country mourned him
A hero of the nation he's remembered with elation
Throughout the world where freedom still abounds
And the Southern Cross take note where bold Willie Bullfin wrote
The Irish still support you Argentina
With the Empire tumbling down let no Paddies back the crown
"Las Islas Malvinas, Argentinas"
oh dear, one second rate nation backing another
Yes, I believe the Irish in large numbers came to Argentina to build canals/waterways down from the Andes in the eighteenth century.
Here's a full article in Spanish in reputable Argie newspaper La Nacion: www.lanacion.com.ar/politica/la-bestia-negra-de-malvinas-la-historia-del-militar-argentino-que-todavia-despierta-terror-en-las-nid20042022/
Another bit of trivia is about another Irish-descended Argentinian Army conscript, Ronald Quinn, who acted as interpreter (there were some more Irish-descended conscripts, not out of any special plan or anything but just sheer coincidence, and there were also some English-descended Argentinian conscripts, mind you). I've always wondered if this Quinn had anything to do with a Quinn family from ireland who were neighbours to my father when he was a kid in Buenos Aires in the 50s and 60s.
Éire or Ireland still has not achieved all island independence. A great connection and story, my brother in law is from Argentina. You should cover the story on the GAA clubs in Argentina or if travelling in Chile the story behind O’Higgins.
Amazing story, Ireland 🇮🇪 for ever
Well done, James!
muy buen video!
Excellent video
Nice video, enjoy your content. Have you done anything on Velez Sarsfield, is there some kind of (tenuous) link to Ireland there?
You should also cover Banfield. IMHO, that one is Even more Irish.
