When Rashid Mustafa was only 10 yrs old, I met him along with Usd Chhote Mohd Jaan (may be his grandpa) at a Tabla repair shop....Usd told me that this kid is going to Mumbai to learn under Usd Ahmed Jaan Thirakwa....after 2 yrs when Rashid came back to Delhi , whole AIR thronged in the studio to listen Rashid playing mesmerizing tabla solo . He is awesome artist !
Well , I wouldn’t say brand, Its art and every tabla a maker makes has something different. This bayan is probably made by Ud Mohd Sharif tabla maker in Delhi. Ud Qasim Khan and sons has also made a lot of tablas for him. Other tabla artist/maker including Vhatkar ji from Mumbai and lately Saddam Ansari from Delhi, has also made his tablas.
Also depends on balance and nikas of Player. Here Ustad ji gives lots of focus on these techniques. I have seen him making almost dead bayans sound like honey during riyaz.
