'And' is 'na' in Swahili and no, Swahili is not 40% Arabic. It's way less.. Moreover, the railway being built by Chinese don't mean it's China owned. Get your facts right!

I enjoy your videos, but most of your perspectives here are so Eurocentric. Trying to put Kenyan or the indigenous people's contribution to the history of Mombasa and Swahili culture (food, architecture etc) as minimal. Such were the colonial narratives. For example, Swahili is a Bantu language, with borrowed words from Arabic. It is like trying to say English is a Greek language. Though there is a great influence of classical Greek on English, through Latin and French, largely on lexical and conceptual, no one says that English is Greek. Mombasa was in existence before the Arabs. It was founded by a Bantu Queen Mwana Mkisi. Arabs came to trade. It is logical, you don’t trade in a jungle. Later, Shehe Mvita overtook the Empire of Queen Mwana Mkisi. He had already converted to Islam and built the 1st permanent stone structure on the island of Mombasa. In addition, you bring the Chinese narrative to the New Kenya Railway. It isn’t Chinese. It is done via a Chinese loan, and I surely believe you understand how loans work. Apart from those grey areas, nice video.

I sort of understood what you’re saying but It’s a 15 minute video specifically talking about the European and other colonial influences on the area. It’s by no means a comprehensive history of Mombasa. On the language, English is a Germanic language and borrows many of its words from all over the world for example pyjamas comes from India. It’s not dismissive of English to say it’s Germanic. All languages borrow words. Even with Bantu it could be argued they colonised this area of Africa as they originate from west Africa. So Swahili culture is a mix of many tribes, races, or whatever categorisation you want to give it. The Chinese rail as it will forever be known from this day forward is a heuristic. Everyone knows what I’m talking about when I say ‘Chinese railway’ .. thanks for watching.. I’ll try add more native history to my videos going forward. I appreciate the input thanks again

@@GoingGlobull that is my point, English is Germanic, not Greek, as Swahili is Bantu, not Arabic but both with influences of diverse cultures they interacted with or controlled the territories. ‘Chinese’ to the Kenya Railway, is a narrative that was engineered and driven by the media, both local and international. Nothing accurate, for the railway is fully funded by Kenya taxpayers.

@@rang3688 I’m not sure if I said it was an Arabic language if I did I’ll make a comment and pin it. It’s also a nickname so people know what I’m talking about.. admittedly it is a narrative in the west, but it’s not the only one or the only place where that narrative exists.

Wah! Okey! Africa have no written history. We were brainwashed with everything and left our traditions. We even don't know our religion, we can only read what colonizers wanted as to know. We were told our gods were mantis, came from gods knees, about muumbi, coming from the sky on animal skin..... All these country baunderies came later. it's just an unending argument. About languages and foods there's no big debate since it's evident.
All I know is that European powers are evil and worst of humankind

If Kenyans want more credit and history that suits what makes them feel better... then Kenyans need to start making such vlogs.
How often do we see Kenyans, Africans, and Afro Americans actually dig deep into their history and tell it accurately? It's rare.
Those who do often overlook the inconvenient truths of African and black histories, and world history at large.
I love Mombasa, but the history there is terrible and flattering for no one, especially the Arabs and Swahilis.
Otherwise, all I'm saying.. let us be white and vlog in peace instead of always attacking and talking about color.
We've had enough policing of our mouths.
*Locals have the complete freedom to vlog out their history and narratives.*

I think there is some problems with that media, in that sometimes it has an undertone that the reason these places are poor is because the African people are “incompetent” and can’t run their country or something. It’s the same thing with the flawed IQ tests they always show. if my people were being portrayed as unintelligent and incompetent all the time, I would want to show them what my country really looks like, to prove that my people can be educated and do great things. (except for the parts that were designed and built by colonizers) But I think it’s important to show the harsh reality, no matter who is filming. Love from Massachusetts USA 🇺🇸

Same thing in Stone Town Zanzibar. Swahili language and culture would be completely different without this.

Do you have ability to comprehends the meaning of colonialism, especially the type of colonialism that went on in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa. It was domestic slavenly and genocide rolled in one. A lot Africans were killied, raped, land taken, forced labor, free minerals. The people from Europe and Arab land who did were not human , even animals to not treat other animals like this.

I was a supporter of this channel until you stated that your goal is to show the west what has always been shown to the west, sick, hungry, poor, dirty Africa is because it's interesting. Sad. That's all they will know.

    • @GoingGlobull
      @GoingGlobull  Рік тому

They are interested because it is unusual to home. It’s shocking, and raises awareness of the truth of how some people live. You’ve completely misrepresented what I said. My goal is to show reality. Unfortunately the reality is that parts of Africa (like many other places) are hungry and poor.

@@GoingGlobull But man, what good does that do? Raising awareness? Really? More than Raising Awareness, you cement the already bad rep. that has been created by 'mass' media about Africa. Unless you're changing people's lives, I see no point of Raising Awareness. I'd leave that to the U.N. or charities. Respectfully bro. You seem like a smart guy esp. with the A1 intro you gave but come on, don't be another outlet for news about how "poor, dirty or sick" people are in Africa. You can do better.
Don't we have poor/suffering/sick westerners too? Why would just the specifically be interested in seeing how poor/sick/suffering Africans? Is it that it is unusual for the west but "usual" in Africa, to borrow your words?

@@AliAsadMo trust me I’m going to show that side of the U.K, the USA and Europe too in time. Right now I’m in Africa. Here’s the long term strategy for you. Gain a following in parts of Africa, people who support what I do or hate it either way to get eyes on.. then go show europe the uk and the west as raw as I show anywhere else. I’m not interested in anyone else’s narratives. I’m here to see it for myself.
What’s different about me and the UN images is that I’ll actually speak to the people rather than just getting some ‘good shots’ of poor kids playing rubbish. Also many would argue the agenda of those organisations you mentioned isn’t as clear as they claim. The ‘usual’ aspect was reference to slums and illegal settlements, places without sanitation etc..
These are sensitive topics, I don’t expect everyone to like it but that doesn’t mean I’ll ignore it.
