    I am 47 and I refuse to use a filter or face tuning app. I have worked to damn long and hard to love myself as is. I do have insecurities but I don’t care if people see them. They are a real part of what makes me, me. I am a beautiful girl and I like to get all shined up but sometimes I have an emergency or sometimes I have a lazy day I get out of the house with my teeth brushed and wither I am shined up or not…. I am still beautiful and proud to be me.

    I feel like some of these influencers forget that one of the main reasons their job exists was because of the need for transparency and honesty about commercial products. If influencers become over saturated with ads, especially ones that aren’t honest, they’ll find themselves out of a job because no one will trust them. Just like people leave social media sites that become too commercialised 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ve been thinking of getting rid of my ig and fb for a while because of this. And for other reasons too, like ig getting rid of the chronological feed. I like social media in theory, and pinterest was my “safe” platform for a while, because it wasn’t as toxic for me and the ads didn’t feel intrusive. It’s useful and I’d planned to keep it. But now I see pins from shein in my feed all the time even though I blocked them, and AI generated stuff too. I’m thinking of just taking screenshots of my boards and leaving pinterest as well 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Brands that push for you to not disclose do so because they are protected, like MLMs from what their sellers say. If you don't disclose and the FTC finds out, you as the creator get hit with the fees and issues, not the brand. It's not worth a check to risk getting fines higher than that check.

    I have been WAITING for FTC to finally come after some of these people. Mikayla also exaggerates her accent just for her videos especially more now than she did when she started (as someone from Mass, it annoys me). Since Nikki is in The Netherlands, the disclosure laws I think are slightly different than they are here in the US so the disclosure might not have to be as obvious as it is here. I agree she still should have been more transparent though for sure.

    • @LilacMoons
      @LilacMoons Рік тому +3

      The Dutch laws are actually pretty much the same. You have to declare clearly if you are paid for a product, if you received it from a brand etc. Afaik those are EU-wide laws (at least my country’s are the exact same) and they’re pretty strict so Nikki should definitely be aware of this 🙃

    I really don't understand why certain Creators have such a problem with declaring they're getting paid for promotion something. Honestly, social media these days is almost a replacement for traditional beauty magazines etc, and IMO it's just the same thing to advertise a brand in a magazine or tv, and on Instagram for instance. I don't get why people seem almost... ashamed? to admit they're being paid. Girl, I have the tiniest account but occasionally get to collaborate with small brands, and believe me when I had a couple of big names approach me, I was shouting from the rooftops that so and so is actually paying me 😂 It's just down to the fact that Creators will be saying "Oh it's my job", and Mikayla even had that rant video about how tough it is to be an influencer, so if it's your job - DON'T TRY TO HIDE YOU GET PAID TO DO IT 🙌🏻

    I have been trying to talk about this on my tik Tok account for over a month now and I'm either being ignored by The view community or actively shut down by the beauty community because for some reason they don't seem to think that the FTC ruling against the nutrition influencers has anything to do with them but that's also because they're probably too stupid to fully understand what it has to do with them. I tried to explain to them that you know p Louise and Mikayla moving forward especially with her issues with non-disclosure could prove problematic p Louise of course deleted all my comments and doesn't care because the palette sold out so they're making money. Lol

    This really has nothing to do with anything but.... When was it decided that we don't blend highlighter anymore? There's a specific creator, not in the makeup/ beauty genre, who I literally can't watch anymore. I start her video and then put my headphones on and my phone down and walk away because the highlighter on the end of her nose literally looks like someone is holding a laser beam on her face and it's so distracting I can't look at it. The highlighter at the top of the cheekbones that looks like they just took a piece of white chalk and ran it down their face is just as bad. Makeup is meant to be blended and highlighter works just as well when it's blended.... Please, pass the word! 😂
    (And no- this was not a veiled hit on you, lol. You are not the creator I am referring to😅.)

    • @Shirumoon
      @Shirumoon 10 місяців тому +1

      Omg the nose highlight in genral was one make up trend I never got into. I look hideous with a highlighted nose, I actually low light it as I was taught in make up school bc that is what works best for crooked or otherwise non beauty standard fitting noses. But either way, I think it has to do with what was said in this video maybe. Inbuilt filters are the norm so you really have to overdo highlight so it doesn't get blurred into everything else. I don't mind it as much when looking at those photos or videos but that's also because I know that those looks are not made to be worn out in public mostly.

I honestly think that our world has become so "scammy" that misleading and dishonest advertising feel normalized to some people...or at least less "bad" compared to those who are outright 100% scamming people. And I do agree that when content creators intentionally don't tell the whole story that they're being deceptive to the people who actually give them the platform they have (and get them paid). Even if people are tolerating it *now* I think that soon enough that kind of behavior is only going to drive viewers away.

    @NikkieTutorials KNOWS better. If you go back into her UA-cam videos and look at some of her older videos she came up with a way to TELL the audience (while both verbally and showing you) what type of "deal" she'd be talking about. So she'd have an icon for paid video. She'd have one for paid for on her own and so on. So the fact that she is now trying to "hide" her brand deals is super sketch. Not only is it sketch but also very very frustrating because we kinda felt like we could trust Nikkie. Now because she is OBVIOUSLY TRYING to hide it not only does it go against the law but it feels like I now can't trust or use anything Nikkie suggests because it feels like there's always an hidden agenda behind it. She really could have taught all these young bucks/does how to correctly make an ftc appropriate/approved guide but she also could have really been setting the bar for how it's supposed to be done and what it truely looked like when you were being open with your community and being truthful when you said you liked the product or you didn't and those words were believably. It really made me quite disappointed in Nikkie.

    people don't seem to understand how much power their spending choices have the potential to be, and the extent of the positive or negative impact it could have.

    As someone who got the Telescopic Lift mascara without knowing about the Mikayla scandal at that time its one of the worst clumpiest and messiest mascaras I've owned and I'm not even exaggerating it's awful

    honestly, i don't watch beauty content at all, but when it shows up in videos i'm currently watching i always get baffled by the process. i just can't imagine putting so much stuff onto my natural face to make me look artificial every single day. it almost feels dystopian. i can't help getting sad that makeup is a requirement for women and YOU are the weird one if you're content with your face as it is.

    I kinda disagree for once. TV, Netflix, and movies do product placement constantly and don't use a disclaimer. Yes they are obvious but they don't explicitly disclose its an ad. We obviously know.

      i think that may a bit different because the companies don’t directly profit as much from that compared to how much they profit from these reviews

      Two different beasts. Influencers also do product testing without sponsorship, for one. Also, I've yet to see an actor pick up that can of Coke and start talking about how much they like it.

      Aren't there stats showing how badly children are affected by influencer ads? Maybe adults know but not teenagers and children. Also I can't recall ever buying a make up product mentioned on tv vs 80% of make up I own was what I've seen on social media.
      Influencing became a thing because those people started out NOT acting like tv commercials but as a virtual friend giving honest recommendations and spilling the truth on bad products. Obviously you have to advertise a lot if it's your main income but still. If influecers act like tv and netflix, I'll rather go back to tv and netflix.

    they youtube drama was already bad enough but these ones are the worst and i'm so tired of the virality and of obnoxiuous people that do the same thing over and over. "kilos of foundation girl", "fake boston accent" and " brown girl friendly- i understand color theory" are just annoying .

    I absolutely love all your content... you make it sooo relatable!!! The difference between you and some other influencers is that they will do or say absolutely anything to their followers for a check.... you actually care about your audience and know we really trust your opinion about products and things!!! I wish everyone thought like you with their heart and not their bank account!!!! ❤🤍🩷
