A restrictor is an old thermostat, with the centre removed! The motor will still warm up fairly fast! Adding reliability, if your thermostat jams closed! You can blow your motor up! If your not aware! If they overheat severely, your motor will be seized! Which means a total rebuild or another motor!

A restrictor is more reliable than a thermostat, to make a restrictor, you simply take the centre out of an old thermostat! A thermostat is usually a wax pellet type, they can , fail to open, because of this, if your not aware , you can blow your motor up , because NO water will be flowing! Also a thermostat can jam closed because of rocks and sand ,sucked up by the water pump! A thermostat can be tested by putting it in boiling water, when it should be open! I hope this has helped you!
