My Gr-Gr-Grandfather was a Confederate defender of Port Hudson with the 1st Mississippi Light Artillery during the siege and was captured there. I had the privilege of participating as a Confederate re-enactor in the original works of Fort Desperate at Port Hudson State Historical Park in 1991. Great memories.

I've been to Port Hudson. It was many years ago. I may have to go back. My grandmother's family had a home right across from the battlefield and they gave help to the soldiers during the battle.

Finally a full dose Garry Adelman again (been absent too often in quite a few of the latest ABT videos)- the energy and enthusiasm in his presentation(s) is contagious, unrivaled and second to none. Great job, well done! 👏

My three times great grandfather, Constantine Montgomery, was a confederate soldier that surrendered at the siege of Port Hudson. My mom has copies of his letters home.

So thankful Port Hudson is getting its due. It was such an important seige and really has so much educational value. Thank you for making the Mississippi swing!!! There is a great confederate cemetery across the state around Quitman, then you have the whole Free State Of Jones situation, so much history no one really shows too much of.

In the eastern campaign, the rebels called Nathaniel Banks by the nickname, 'Commissary Banks', because his troops left so many supplies as they retreated after fighting.

Correction: When he knew he stepped on his manhood. He and his staff would leave the troops well behind in full retreat. He earned the moniker Commissary Banks after his first encounter with Jackson in the Shenandoah Valley.

Speaking of California, are you guys planning to do some videos on the campaign in New Mexico? I guess the battles were much smaller scale, but it seems to be such an overlooked part of the war.

Yet it was the coward Joseph E Johnston who had an army of nearly 40,000 that did nothing in Jackson because he didn't want his reputation tarnished.
