The thing with the Yamato stuff. Pronouns are not nearly as strictly gendered in Japanese, tomboys use boku/ore all the time and are never mistaken as being trans. In japanese you do not talk about other people using pronouns like he/she almost ever, you almost always use their name/nickname/you (generally an insult) when addressing them. Luffy asking what Yamato meant by son and being told they decided to live as a man is not the same thing as in english asking someone to call you by specific pronouns. Oda is clear in every other trans character that they have a "female soul" but does not do that with Yamato. I do agree though that it does not really matter and people just like to argue.
If someone attacked Luffy's flag in fishman island the strawhats wouldn't hesitate in doing so. Even if they were allies with Shanks or any other friend's crew. The flag is there to protect the kingdom
I don't really understand the whole thing about Shanks controlling Yassop. The way I see it the Red Hair Pirates are more or less what the late game Straw Hats will be, and Luffy doesn't control his crew like that. The whole point of the straw hats is to cover for Luffy's weaknesses, which in terms Shanks might be a bit too much compassion, and in the type of situation that Bartolomeo was in with Shanks compassion is only going to be seen as weakness so Yassop covered for Shanks

Yeah, it's sad that so many chatters during that segment refer to Yamato as female. I'm cishet so at first I wasn't sure if Yamato actually identified as male or just Oden but I've heard from some trans people that they figured out they were trans because they wanted to be someone else and they felt validated having a trans character that doesn't pass as their gender. To the identity to Yamato (gender): So far i know the japanese language has no two words like the english language has: Sex and gender. They have the word for the Sex - so what kind of a body we see, male or female. But no word for the identity. That is why they use wordings like "a woman by heart" like O-Kiku used them and why they do write "female" even if the person says "i identify myself as a man" if the person clearly looks like a woman. My mother language is german, so i can say that we have the same trouble with it. We only have the german word for Sex so we try to talk around it like "The sex the person does identify with" (Sidenote: The word "Sex" does exist in the german language as well but we use it for "when people are intimate with each other")

The way I see it the Red Hair Pirates are more or less what the late game Straw Hats will be, and Luffy doesn't control his crew like that. The whole point of the straw hats is to cover for Luffy's weaknesses, which in terms Shanks might be a bit too much compassion, and in the type of situation that Bartolomeo was in with Shanks compassion is only going to be seen as weakness so Yassop covered for Shanks

So far i know the japanese language has no two words like the english language has: Sex and gender. They have the word for the Sex - so what kind of a body we see, male or female. But no word for the identity.
That is why they use wordings like "a woman by heart" like O-Kiku used them and why they do write "female" even if the person says "i identify myself as a man" if the person clearly looks like a woman.
My mother language is german, so i can say that we have the same trouble with it. We only have the german word for Sex so we try to talk around it like "The sex the person does identify with" (Sidenote: The word "Sex" does exist in the german language as well but we use it for "when people are intimate with each other")

Probably the same nowadays, even though most trans people know that it's an issue with their physical identification (which gender is and if you do not use gender in that way, gender is not even sexual, as it is inherently sexual/sensual/physical in that combo, because when a transgender person refers to gender they refer to categories based in biological sex, hence trans woman and trans man, I mean, if it was not based in sex, gender basically would not be a problem, as it would entail that you can just choose those features which kinda goas against the entire "you are born in the wrong body" thing, which is directly refering to the physical part).
I do agree that Yamato right now "wants" to be adressed male as Oden was male. (The "want" is that way, because we never actually hear Oden-chan utter his wants about anything pronoun related, I would guess Oden-chen would not even care, just like Luffy would not care if you called him a princess and future priate queen, and I doubt Oda actually cares about those concepts beyond the concepts that Japanese had historically as well as shown in Kiku.) But is Yamato trans is whta most people want to ask with the pronoun question as they speak by THEIR OWN language code (such as others) who adress people who do not refer to themselves as an actual identification (transgender) compared to larping or mental delusion. And i think that question is justified and people can adress their categories however they want as long as they refer the personal directly rightly if they want to.
